Friends was popular because of it's hugely popular flip-flop love affair with Ross and Rachel while also being genuinely funny. Any episode that didn't entirely focus on any relationship was usually much much better, but that's about 1/2 the total episodes.
Also, Seinfeld acknowledges how mean the cast is, but Friends do mean shit all the time and kinda brush it off.

Friends feels like it's very "safe" straight forward sitcom with elements of melodrama. The characters are designed to be likable and relatable.

Seinfeld is more biting and self deprecating. The characters are jerks and the situations they find themselves are surreal. The characters are designed to be ridiculous caricatures to be laughed at, rather than anyone relatable to the audience. Well except George I guess

I have to rewatch Seinfeld. It's that kinda show where even if I know the jokes, their delivery is so flawless that it still makes me laugh.
I've been rewatching Malcolm in the Middle as well and it still holds up amazingly well. Cranston is a fucking riot, none of the episodes are afraid to push the limits, having them say and do horrible things.
