just why
Apparently Steam, underage gambling through CS:GO and Dota 2 weren't making them enough money
>>388568013
It's a cover for Source 2 news/release.
If you think a Dota card game is genuinely happening you're getting pranked hard.
>>388568013
Why do you think?
They're trying to compete with Hearthstone
because mtg is overpriced as hell and hearthstone is gay
I don't even play dota but this might be good
>a full game from a mod
literally why?
>>388568445
People were buying Warcraft 3 just to play Dota.
>>388568013
>have so much money and resources you don't know what to do with it
>make a fucking card game
this is why Marc left
>>388568013
If you're not hype for this don't even bother replying to me
>>388568013
It's just to hold us over for their 3 full length VR games. r-right guys?
>>388569298
Alright
I would have been fine with this if it was a card game using all the worthless Steam Trading Cards, but nope, gotta go full retard and attempt to butt heads with Blizzard.
>>388569606
>yfw you realise it's payback for Overwatch
Because all valve and blizzard do is try to copy each other in one giant circlejerk of creative bankruptcy.
>>388568841
The only problem is - that didn't move everyone over from WC3.
People continued to flood WC3 with DOTA maps. Then Starcraft 2 came out with its shit "Play only the popular maps and shove our fucking custom matchmaking down your throat because fuck you" Arcade and it got absolutely demolished by shitty DOTA clones.
>>388569606
There's so many goddamn Steam Trading Cards that it would be logistically impossible for them to make individual stats from every single one.
if you don't understand why a dota card game might actually be a great thing then you know nothing of game design
>>388570913
>if you don't understand why an emoji movie might actually be great thing then you know nothing about film design
>>388570913
what makes you say that?
>>388571391
the way they have described it they are basically distilling dota down into a 1v1 card game. you control heroes across 3 lanes and they can have all the crazy abilities that they have in regular dota. it sounds a shit ton more fun than hearthstone.
>>388571682
it just sounds like hearthstone with extra steps
>>388571198
Eh, well, the emoji movie did make a profit
>>388568013
Even people who play dota don't care about this and all the cardfags have heartstone already. They are like 3 years late on that bandwagon.
>>388568174
Anon, what possible reason would you have to trust steam at this point? They are no longer interested in making passion projects. Their entire business philosophy is "stumble through developing some stupid shit no one asked for, and then just forget to do anything with it."
Remember SteamOS?
>>388570825
>generate stats inversely proportional to the number of copies of the card's game that have been sold
Done.
>>388571682
Sounds like that Royale whatever normie mobile game. It's shit.
>>388571743
people who go 'oh it's a card game so it must be like every other card game' are truly brainlets. similar reasoning means people think every boardgame is monopoly or game of life when there is actually a very diverse and varied amount of board games out there. same with card games. you can play a crazy amount of games with a single deck of cards. card games can result in very diverse rule sets in an easy to understand format.
>>388571886
Then you have people selling their rarest cards to demolish the meta and ultimately fuck up the steam market
>>388572005
Well yeah, there's a difference between Solitaire and Blackjack. And other card games like Spades. But most "battle card" games boil down pretty basically to "Play a hand that will hurt the other player's health". Thus, hearthstone with extra steps.
