The protagonist of Strange Journey is quite interesting actually. He was designed to not appear Japanese as the setting wasn't Tokyo. I believe the official statment from Atals was something like "He is from whatever region the player is from". In the Japanese version he is said to be Japanese but in the US version he is a US Marine.

His canon name is still Tadano in the same sense that any other SMT protagonist has a canon name. You can still call him whatever you want, but if he ever appears in another spinoff he won't then that'll most likely be his name. It's still only as "canon" as any other SMT protagonists name though. Demifiend and Hero are much more common titles for those two though. In the games everyone refers to the Demifiend as the Demifiend, and the three heroes in SMT1 are referred to as Chaos Hero, Law Hero and so the MC just being the Hero is the next step for that, I haven't played SMT2 yet so I don't know if he's called the Hero there as well. The SJ protagonist doesn't have anything like that, just like how Flynn didn't have anything like that. Hitonari Tadano is still the closest thing to a canon name he has, but again, it's only as canon as any other SMT protagonists name and you can still call him whatever you want.
