I'd say VLR is still worth playing, but it ends in a cliffhanger that ZTD fails to properly follow up.
Definitely play VLR, flip a coin as to whether or not you should play ZTD.

I liked ZTD, although I will say the ending was a disappointment and felt more like they ran out of money and left it on another cliffhanger. Despite all that, I thought the puzzles and interactions were fun in ZTD and worth playing through all 3 games.

The best path to take is just playing 999. VLR is pretty fuckin fun, but if you can't handle leaving things unfinished, ZTD will leave you empty.

ZTD has its flaws and fails to stand up to its predecessors but it still has some quirks and is probably better story than most of games today tho.

VLR is pretty good but 999 is timeless classic

999 was amazing, but VLR will still always be my favorite. One of the only complaints I have with it is the obvious cliffhanger because it's the middle game. Still, everything else about it was really fun. The AB game was great.

ZTD was, uh, well, it was something alright.

Definitely play VLR but think for a bit about whether or not you really want to play ZTD.

VLR is my favourite game in the series, Sigma and Phi's teamwork in the game is what makes it for me. Even after playing through ZTD it didn't sour any feelings I had towards VLR.

999 is the best one. VLR is really good, but it's hard to surprise someone expecting a follow-up to 999. ZTD is hot garbage. Just pretend Another Time End never happened in VLR and you're gold.
