Unity is good but without polish, and competent developers modify it to make good and great games. Just because alot of half-assed shitsticks make asset flips using the basic version of Unity doesn't mean the engine is garbage. by that logic paper and canvas are terrible mediums to draw and paint on because of the amount of garbage incompetent people have drawn.
