For me, a good game has either good gameplay, or a good story. Great games have both, and I wouldn't call FFXV great, but it's pretty good. I love the world and even though the overarching narrative is pretty convoluted (Empires and Kingdoms and Tombs and Magic Weapons and blah blah), the premise and how that fits into the story (the bros on a road trip) is just phenomenal. I love how the guys play off each other. It reminds me of "Stand By Me," oddly enough.

Four guys - the tough one, the sensitive one, the goofy one, and the dangerous one - go on a trek. For Stand By Me, its to see a dead body. For XV, it's the marriage and weapons, etc. But the body/weapons/marriage/etc are just reasons - the story is the relationships between the guys.

The horrible gameplay part when you are no longer in the open world and lose your pals sucks from a gameplay perspective, but from a narrative, I really did feel the loneliness that Noctis has hidden inside all along come to the exterior. Then, the campfire scene... shit, man.

It's not for everyone, but the way this story is structured is with the emphasis on relationship rather than introspective development. There's a name for that, but the concept escapes me.

In the DLC they did what they should've done to the main game, strip away 90% of the options you have. A simple dodge, dodge roll, attack, and a few items is almsot enough.

You can tell that they reworked the whole combat system less than a year before release. The balance is really bad and you're jsut teleporting all over the place now so enemies can barely keep up except for those jedi tomberries that just go nuts.
They wanted to make an ARPG, but in the end made a 0 depth style over substance warp strike fest with some stats attached to it to make it feel like an RPG

I'll be honest, after XV, this game's story seems like the most content-rich thing ever, same for the main and side cast

Well it's not a spin-off anymore so Square wouldn't allow all that lewd stuff. That's why games like Type-0 could get away with being pretty violent, and why so much stuff from FFXV got cut I imagine. Still sucks though
