I never understood something about that image.

Is the implication that you had your hands on her? I'd assume so from the emphasis on "ME", but the picture doesn't fit that, and presumably a merchant wouldn't just be all "What can I do for you?" if you were flirting with his woman.

If that's not the implication then it would be that you have your hands on the guys merchandise, in which case he'd only mention "the m'lady" if she served as some kind of bodyguard or security for his store, which she doesn't appear to due to not holding weaponry.
