Cosmetics matter because people care about what they look like. Why do you think the fashion industry exists?
If games really are nothing but numbers to you I won't call you a liar because I don't know you but I think you have to seriously reevaluate how you feel about that. At the very least you have to realize that, even if you genuinely don't give a shit about what anything in your game looks like, you're in a very small minority there and the rest of us don't want to be manipulated to spend more money in a game that we already paid for.

What's even worse than that though is that this loot box bullshit exploits people with potentially harmful gambling tendencies without any of the legal restrictions normal gambling is subject to. Because right now the loophole is that this is not legally gambling because you're not gambling money for money but you are putting down money in the hopes of getting something good with a much higher chance of getting something shit. And before you tell me that those people deserve to be exploited because capitalism, let me just say fuck you. There's a reason why you don't give a suicidal person a gun, there's a reason why you don't give a recovering heroin addict heroin and there's a reason why gambling is subject to restrictions. A society can't work if everyone is just constantly looking to exploit each other

Streamsniping is a bullshit concept and banning people for it is ludicrous. PU claims the evidence is irrefutable that people are streamsniping, but doesn't provide any of this concrete evidence.
Despite being $30 and EA they also added in fucking lootboxes and microtransactions. PU then says that when the game fully releases they will remove the free crates and there will only be paid crates - despite earlier claiming there wouldn't be microtransactions in the game at all, and he said he'd consider it when the game came out of EA.

That would defeat the entire purpose of this system.

It is meant to showcase high tier skins through its marketplace and other in-game players wearing this, in the hopes that you will see it and want it too, It being cosmetic or not doesn't lower purchases if enough players are advertising this content for them (or they just give it a "LEGENDARY" label, then people will want it regardless of taste).

So no, no direct buying skins. Instead of having you put $5 down for it like was more common last gen, we instead have to spend much more gambling for it, with the rates of receiving the specific item unknown.

So you end up spending $20 on gambling for the cool item you want...and get trash instead. So you do it again, and get less trash but still not the item. So you do it again, and again, and again...

And eventually you end up defending these practises on video game forums, because you don't want to deal with the fact that you are instigating the worst practice in video gaming...ever.

The sooner we have legislation dealing with this problem, the better.

Crates don't bother me at all, it's part of gaming these days.

What does bother me is the ease at which they ban players for stream sniping. In a game like this unless someone is screaming the snipers name or actively rushing in and killing them 12 games in a row you can't truly say without a doubt it's on purpose.

So many crazy random things happen and streamers (not all but most) are so prissy that it's going to result in a mountain of false bans. Hell I had a moment a couple months ago where my squad killed a streamer squad at the start of the game two games in a row out of sheer incredible random luck. If anyone wanted to they could have reported us for sniping and that would have been a ban despite us not actually sniping, it was randomness of the game.

I mean, I hate PUBG as much as the next guy, but his video is pointless.
If you pay for cosmetics you have to be brain damaged in the first place and as long as they are optional and don't give you any advantages in game no one should really have problem with it.
The early access thing is stupid, the devs keep adding things with the game and is just a level that doesn't mean a thing anymore, the game got big enough that 'releasing it' now wouldn't change the fact that the game would have many improvements in the years to come anyway.
