Only 17 days until pic related is released. Have you decided what sort of character you're going to run with first?

White male paladin.

When being a lizardman is an option, why even ask?

Does it have that gimmick again where you have to roleplay two characters at once?

I want to play Undead, but they haven't released any info. Is it going to be a gimmick class that changes dialogue/interactions, like Nosferatu and Malk?

If you do multiplayer (up to 4 players), each player gets to customize his own character.

Have one character (or both) have telekinesis, then fill a chest with barrels that have water in them. Drop the chest on enemies for a shit ton of damage if not outright killing them since the heavier something is, the more damage it does when it hits something. Maybe have one of your characters have magic to stun enemies for an easier time.
>>
>>388513847
Thank g-d.
I started the first game recently, and it's pretty good, reminiscent of NWN I used to play back in my school days. But playing solo with two different main characters is kinda exhausting. I really wish I had enough time to play this game in co-op. And I wish I still had friends.
>>
This game is currently in EA.
What is missing between now and release?
>>
>>388514109
This is only act 1. It's also missing a playable race and couch coo. And tons of mechanics that will be in the full game. They have all the things that will be implemented in the full game on their youtube channel as well iirc.
>>
>>388514109
Everything but Act 1.
>>
Can I play comfy couch coop with my gf on PS4 again like the first game?
>>
>>388514109
F EA wasn't traditional EA for this, where you got an incomplete full game that they kept adding content to. It was more like a long demo that got mechanics tweaks and bug fixes over time.
>>
>>388514240
Yep.
>>
Devs are launching a new kickstarter almost immediately after the game, and they said it won't be Div:OS 3. Wonder what it will be? Do they have any other old franchises they might revive?
>>

>>
Can we really play as undead versions of each race or has an anon just made that up?
>>
>>388514387
It might be for the enhanced edition. I don't think Larian have anything other than Divinity games, they might do another Dragon Commander or something completely new.
>>
>>388514695
I think there is just going to be an undead race, like a skellington or a lich.
>>
>>388513554
Are these the only 5 characters we're getting?
>>
>>388514790
No. We can still make custom characters. Those are just the promo characters like they used in the first one.
>>
>>388514695

It was one of their kickstarter goals but i have found zero information about it what pros and cons the undead race gives.
>>
>>388513554

Lizard rogue probably. Is Unarmed a skill in this?
>>
>>388515558
No, I mean they're the predefined characters, Lohse, the Red Prince, Sebille, Ifan and probably some Dwarf one that hasn't been shown yet, but are there going to be more of those guys?
>>
>>388514773
>>388514695
Its in the game files that there is a skellington for each race.

And I don't see why not allow us to. We already know there are skeleton models for each race.
>>
>>388514720
I wish they would bring Dragon Commander as it was originally intended and added something extra on top of it. Since Larian has 130 people now, they can afford to do sideprojects while maintaining post-release schedule.
>>
>>388515795
There might be a part of the game where you die and walk around as a skelly, which would explain the models existing without a proper undead race
>>
>>388515956
I'd love another Dragon Commander. If they make another one I hope they flesh out the non-combat parts more.
>>
>>388515697
Every "origin" can be a companion, so there's probably going to be an undead as well
>>
>>388515979
I believe those are undead npcs' models. I haven't played much but remember fighting them in some swamp. Also Matt Mercer used undead models in DM mode during GM stream. Hopefully, those are available to the player as well (4 races + 2 genders = 8 models total with some tweaks) but voicing them all would be a pain in that case as well as tuning undead specific armor for each race.

Papa Bones.
By the way, they said mods would be supported, how true is that? Can I create brand new classes and spells and playable races? Or it's just mix and matching existing things?
>>
>>388513770
can you really be a skeleton?
>>
>>388521041
The first one had mods that changed skills and talents and the like, so with more support there will most likely be even more stuff like that.
>>
>>388521087
Yeah, you can.
Atleast I hope they are and not some pale skinny homo shit.
>>
>>388521041

You should be able to do a lot of stuff. At least having a proper toolset was one of the Kickstarter goals. First game also had some mod support but apparently the tools were pure pain to use, this time they're trying to make them usable for normal people. There's also an extensive DM mode.
>>
>>388521087

Undead/skeletons are one of the races in the game/setting. Afaik they are an actual race with long history, not just random resurrected members of other races.
>>
>>388521041
Yep. New spells. You can even import new particle effects.

Few questions if anyone can answer!

>How many acts
>What are the playable races
>Playable classes
>Can I customize my own class?
Also is this a direct sequel to the first game? I never truly beat the game, just made it to end game.
>>
>>388521087
Yeah. They were a race in Dragon Commander.
>>
>>388522146
3 Acts. 2 is considerably longer than the other acts. Human, Dwarf, Elf, Lizard, Undead. There's like a dozen classes, but they mean nothing. The classes are just prefabs that you can completely throw out the window during character creation. They're more or less just there for people who aren't good at making their own classes and want a starting point.
>>
>>388522146
>What races can I play?
>There are five races to choose from, each with their own abilities and tags: Human, Elf, Dwarf, Lizard and Undead.

Really hope the skeletons don't look like shit, and have something unique about them for being UNDEAD and they're not just functionally identical to the living. It's kind of worrying how we know nothing about them so far, other than that they wear masks.
>>
>>388523091
You get access to the first act, minus one playable race and one or two companions. The rest of the game will release next month, but I don't think save files from the pre-release version will work so you'll probably have to replay a chunk of it.

Probably gonna start with a character who relies heavily on summons to do their fighting.

I always like playing summoner-type classes that have minions to do most of the work for them. Not sure if it's gonna be a literal summoner, a necromancer or something else yet though because a lot of the specifics about abilities in certain skill trees aren't available yet. But yeah, definitely gonna summon something, probably several somethings (on that note I really hope you can have more than one summon per character this time, swarming the enemy with 3-6 weak skellies or lesser elementals could be really fun, though I imagine that if it is a possibility it will come from a late game ability for the sake of balance).

Fuck no. In the first game, the undead trait was OP cause you could heal yourself with all types of poison spells.

In this game it'll probably be more of the same. Some sort of poison spell is gonna be low cost and make the skelly op af.
>>
>>388523559
I doubt they would default/force the zombie trait to them. That basically invalidates a lot of necromancy builds for undead, which would make no sense.

This worries me the most. A lot of the skills are beyond broken. Rogues can end up in a near-unlimited turn situations, and then there's also low-risk high-reward skills like the elf racial.
I heard they nerfed teleport recently, but with less than a few weeks until release, I doubt they'll fix them in time.
Sure, the original also had bullshit stuff pre-patch (stacking resists past 100% to heal from them), but at least those took some serious time investment to reach.
>>

>>
>>388526961

>>
>>388526725
Understandable. I also argued with my friends on how to not kill eachother (we still ended up doing it multiple times).
In the end, our tank went full 100% fire/poison resist, so he could withstand the explosion combos.

>>
>>388527030
They said they want the game to be fun and about role playing, if that meant that some combinations were overpowered than so be it. They just didn't want some variations to be completely worthless and make you have to restart you game because you didn't mixmax from the start. I'm -hoping- the higher difficult make even the most ridiculous combos even or less than the battle difficulties.
>>
>>388513554

The last patch was released in May, they had enough time to fix it.
>>
>>388527540
>every time you make a char you can't help but playing a poly elf rouge
Honestly that's the players fault. The first three times I played the beta I had a wonderful experience with making characters and combinations. I only realized after on the fourth one that you could skin/reset/ combo chain kills, and it still made my character more of a scoundrel than anything else.

If they want to fix it they can just put skin graft at a higher rank, problem solved.
>>
>>388513554
I love what they did with stealing and pickpocketing. The NPCs actually recognize if they were robbed and start asking to search your shit. If you have what you stole in your inventory youre in for some trouble. If you steal from the same place a couple of times all of the NPCs in the area will start going nuts and running around looking for you. Ive played the EA tons and there is so many different ways to do things.

Every time I play I figure out something new, like pickpocketing a key from an NPC you'd normally have to do a major quest for to progress to earn the key. You can seriously play however you want, its the perfect roleplaying game IMO. Really cant wait.

There is some kind of jump ability, Phoenix Dive. Jumps up into the air and you come down on a target and set the surrounding area on fire. Also used Blitzattack for jumping from target to target for a sort of quick jumping thing too.

On Divinity OS1, skeletons get healing like usual while zombies ( boars, humans, anything with decaying flesh that spreading poison on contact) works like you said.

Chance to work in a different way are pretty low, unless we can play as actual zombie but i don't think so.

>>
>>388528381
Not quite the same but i see your point.

Blitzattack is a figher ability right?
I dont realy wanna go fire mage, imo its the least utility heavy of the elemental magics and just for haste its not worth it.

also unrelated
>Hats

Has anyone noticed how fucking amazing Divinity OS2s hats are?
If you are in early access, boot up the game, look through the classes and enable the Helmet option.

The armors in OS2 look fairly good, but the Hats are amazing

For some reason tho the physics effects appear to be disabled in the actual game
>>
>>388528748
Both Phoenix Dive and Blitzattack are Warefare skills, yes.
A lot of physical abilities get things like fire and shit so that people that don't take elemental stuff can take part in the environmental effects game. I also added in some necromancy for lifesteal stuff to keep my ladydragoon a little self sufficient.

I kinda agree with him on the first game. The writing was pretty bad in a lot of parts, and the voice acting was grating. I skipped a ton of dialogue and I'm usually not a guy who does. Plus, they repeat things so fucking often. Every Immaculate you meet feels the need to reexplain the same immaculate philosophy you've heard 1000 times to you.

But improved writing is something that they made a big deal about this time, so hopefully its not so bad.
>>

It will, but the game has workshop integration, so you might want to bite the bullet and get it on Steam anyway. A lot of mods will appear on the Nexus, but inevitably a lot won't also.

I said it before and I'll say it again - Avellone's impact cannot really be felt unless he's a project lead or at least lead writer. His contribution otherwise just painfully stands out or blends in because he makes it fit the overall writing style. Did you know he wrote for FTL?

I hope there will be wacky shit like in the original. I remember finding this huge barrel in Cys tavern, which didn't take damage from fire surfaces.

Divinity games have ALWAYS been wacky. Doesn't meant they didn't have serious stories, but Larian's approach was always to contrast the two. Which doesn't really sit well with some players who are simply unaccustomed to it. For them a SRS BSNS is a SRS BSNS game.

I reckon it's the best version of dnd.
It is simple and streamlined, or at least it was back when it was released.
I expect, like all of them, a bunch of extra rules and shit will bog it all down a fair way..
I was in the dndnext playtest and watched it evolve, I can't say I liked everything they did, but for the most part, it is a pretty sturdy ruleset.

5e combines both.

In truth, 5e seems more about providing options for a DM to worldbuild rather than provide a concise and well-defined whole by itself. The amount of fluff is staggering, but it doesn't change or break gameplay with new rules as much as 4E did.

You want your warlock to serve a hyperintelligent AI from the far future? Done. Refluff core abilities and here's a handful of unique but not game-breaking features.

Its like modding a custom scenario in real time.

So say there is a scenario where the players need to find a cave or something. One of the players has the idea to ask a hunter in town if he knows where the cave is. The GM can spawn in a hunter and add dialog for him on the spot. Then the DM could decide that the hunter is a friend of the witch who lives in the cave, and he tells them where the cave is, but later the GM adds him to the fight with the witch as her ally. Stuff like that.

I am happy they have all these races in the game.. but no race that I particualrly like.

I hate playing as a basic human because it feels too vanilla. I HATE ELVES(FUCK ELVES). I also hate dwarves(FUCK DWARVES), I hate lizards(FUCK LIZARDS) and undead are the only thing I don't dislike full but i dislike how they can be edgy they can seem.

Also, I hear the game has a lot of "OP" combos in it. Is this true? Like scoundrels getting to take infinite turns? I also hear warrior classes are dog shit because the battlefield is going to be a nuclear waste land anyway?

>>388543719
No level scaling, no respawns.
In the first game that was mostly good, with a few bad exceptions
>players walked out of the wrong door and got slaughtered by high level enemies and quit playing
>boss loot was sometimes underleveled by the time you get it, while vendor loot was always exactly your level at the time of purcahse
>if you brute force your way through higher level content, you will probably have to go back and do some now easy and trivial underleveled content

I had all of these happen to me on my first run, as in all three of them influenced my enjoyment.
But overall I still like no respawns and set levels, and I really wish all games used them. ESPECIALLY turn based games, where respawns slow you down too much.

1. Is the story going to be more engaging this time? I've never made it more than an hour past Cyseal because the first game craters in quality after that.

2. Did they change the skill system for the better or worse? Does the new game encourage build variety or is it better to stay away from hybrids?

3. Is the concept art reflected well in the game? The concept art for this game is glorious for armor.

4. Does the story have any ties to D:OS 1?

The first game is one of those rare games that, on paper, has everything I want. In practice, I can't get into it after multiple tries.

I'm looking for whatever changes they've made that are hopefully for the better.

There goes a bulk of my enjoyment. The reasons you listed are enough as an argument why this system sucks. Probably doesn't matter. There's some centuries between the games and the story of OS1 doesn't really matter for the world itself (end of the world averted, balance restored, guardians back in their rightful place yada yada).

Can't speak much to the whole story yet. The game is paced better than the first, the first area is nothing like Cyseal and isn't nearly so front loaded and overwhelming. What story there is so far isn't the most compelling thing ever, but it's very clearly building to something and apparently Act 2 will be the meat of the game so we'll see there.

Skills are way better than the first, the way magic and physical armor work is really interesting and hybrids, at least to certain degrees, worked very well for me in my couple of playthroughs of the EA content.

The armor looks great in game, yeah. Especially lizardmen.

It does have ties to OS1 but so far you won't be lost at all if you don't know OS1's plot by any means. A fuckload of time has passed between them so there's only so much that can be relevant between them.
>>

>>
>>388544826
You would have to intentionally do that, especially in OS1. The game was laid out in such a way to give you EXP to keep you on the right levelling curve unless you decided to basically slaughter everyone in town I guess, or brute forced your way through certain higher level areas first. Even then you'd probably only have around a level at most on other enemies, and certainly not on anything that was intended to be a particularly challenging fight.

To be honest though OS2's first act is a little worse in this regard due to having a less rigid progression path.

I don't really see how you could have a problem with this at all and am baffled why anyone would ask for level scaling or respawning enemies in these games.

If you have 3 levels on something in Divinity the power gap is pretty big.

However given the nature of limited XP, it will always even out. To do it you also pretty much had to have gone through combat far tougher than intended for you to be overlevelled somewhere else, so it's evened out by that alone in my mind anyways.

Why are PoE spammers always such shitters? They keep brining up the same crap that realy doesnt change the fact that PoE is just nostalgia bait for people who played Baldurs Gate and still somehow think that Icewind dale was the pinnacle of RPG combat.

Yep, you can even craft them yourself and get additional perks to improve their efficacy. The first game had the problem with bombs being unscaleable though, so they would become useless (apart from applying status effects) at the later stages. Hopefully, if it is the case here, somebody will mod the scaleability in.

1. Terrible customization that only idiots found intriguing, even Wuxia the pre-sequel a chinese CRPG made by fucking rice monkeys who normally only make plagiarist shit dumpsters pillars in this regard
2. A horrible world that rips off the stupid parts of the Sword Coast but leaves room for a fedora tipping invisible moral majority that worships the underprivileged while no real character feels even close to this..
3. Real time gameplay that leaves almost no room for decision making based on the sheer volume of boring dps needed to bring shit down while also having no skill component as it is a CRPG.
4. Retardedly boring characters, this needs no explanation as I've never met even a "fan" of pillars who can name even the majority of party members and no "bird lesbian" "regular lesbian" "talkative bard" and "talkative healer" are not their names.
5. Not a single quest in Pillars is resolved in front of your eyes, instead being played out in little pictures after the credits like you're watching an 80s college flick, the player has no impact on the world.

Summoner disappointed me. I didn't back it so I couldn't vote but at the time I probably would have thrown my vote for Summoner.

I was expecting something that summoned various different things, or could have multiple summons, instead it's mostly a tree about buffing a summon I don't really like the look of. That said the summon was pretty good when you tossed a couple of the buffs on it and it's pretty handy to be able to choose what you want it to do. If you like the ideas of it I think you won't be disappointed, but I was really hoping they'd just have a ton of different summons and or maybe a raised cap of 2 minions or something. I just wanted to overrun the world in giant spiders, slugs and wolves, not summon a demonlet and buff it.

OS has a huge problem about mages getting all the tricks and fighters not getting anyhting.

but fighters have been getting a lot of new tools in OS2 and the armor system makes them ignore Mage alpha striking.

also polymorpher is a new option for a skill that scales with strength, giving a melee guy some more options of getting into the fight, disarming enemies or buffing himself

>>
>>388550358
At least it retains the stolen tag forever which limits who you can sell things to, and you have a limit on how much you can pickpocket from one person permanently. All the adjustments to stealing are great even if it's not totally perfect.

Besides you really need to steal in the last build of OS2 I played. You won't have shit for equipment if you don't. Hopefully they balanced out the gold you can loot without doing so a bit more.

Pacing is completely off in the EA. You're permanently thrown from one fight into another and hardly spent time in the town. And even there it's literally only combat quests. Comfy Cyseal murder mystery was my favorite part of DivOS.
>>

>>388550798
It's not like the market is saturated with CRPGs, so one being successful won't cost the other any sales. If anything, DivOS2 being a massive success will only make PoE2 more successful as well, because it will draw new players into the genre who will eventually start looking for other games to play.

Though being a complex (compared to shit like Skyrim anyway), top-down, turn-based game, I don't really see DivOS2 becoming a massive hit in this market.
>>
>>388551832

>>
>>388551036
>>388551494
The pacing is much better to me. I loved Cyseal, but I think it was a mistake that you got there immediately. There was a shitload of things to do and it was the largest town in the game; why was it the first? You barely got to dip your toes into combat before basically having to spend a few hours mucking about town, then you've done everything in town and spend even more hours just doing combat. Everything was off to me.

I much prefer the first town you encounter being small but there being a few distinct side plots going on it with a multitude of ways to progress from it.

Again, don't get me wrong. I loved Cyseal. I just think it was awfully paced. People either loved it and were let down the rest of the game had nothing else like it, or got frustrated and bored because they expected to be able to get into the thick of things quickly. It pleased no one in my experience.
>>
>>388551882
>Though being a complex (compared to shit like Skyrim anyway)

Skyrim most certainly has more NPCs, more quests, more locations, more items, and so on.
Original Sin is not more complex.
>>
>>388551920
Also you have like 80% more health and the enemies have 50% less.
>>
>>388551924
It should have started with finding the white witch, then Cyseal being the second town. A reward for a bunch of tough fights.
>>
>>388551494
Probably partially due to the setting I imagine. Supposedly the city in the second act is going to be 50% of the full game so there are bound to be some in-city quests similar to the ones in the first game. Given the overall plot (at least what we know so far) I suspect the final stretch of DOS2 is going to suck ass but we'll see
>>
>>388552017
I wouldnt call world size complexity.
>>
>>388551924
Yeah I agree with this. Cyseal was cool, but it was a huge chunk of non-combat at the start of the game while almost everything after it was just combat, which really fucked the pacing.

Reminds me of ToEE, which had almost the exact same issue with Hommlet being the starting area.

I think the bigger problem was that after the couple tutorial fights where you barely got to know your class, you're thrown into a city that takes a couple hours to explore and you get some easy levels there. Recruit couple new members for the party too.

Then on the 5 hour mark you finally leave the city and get into an another fight.

And notice you don't like your 2 main characters classes at all or they don't compliment the rest of the party well. Then you restart or quit. That was my experience at least in the classic version.

Did restart and playthrough the game though.

That is a massive false equivocacy.

Since we are having a semantics fight here, DivOS is more DENSE and MEANINGFUL than Skyrim.

But the combat is MILES more complex, or you just didn't play DivOS.
>>
>>388552017
None of that matters when the game has no complexity.

Sure, Skyrim has a shitload of content, but almost none of it has any kind of narrative or mechanical complexity. If there's one thing Bethesda has succeeded in over the years it's removing any and all complexity from their games.

Whether you value scope or depth more is a personal matter, but you can't really say that Skyrim is a complex game.

The 10 different items have more variables, because a new game mechanic by itself introduces many more than an integer going up from Minor Potion to Greater Potion.
This is the answer to your direct question. But again, its not the case when comparing Skyrim to DOS. Skyrim has more in number, and more in type, of most everything. Its just a bigger game.

Not sure, you can do stupid physics or frenzy stuff in Skyrim, or get a wolf to attack a bandit, a giant to invade a village, etc. I think in DOS you can't get two different enemy "factions" to fight.
