Right now I wanna rock Krillin/16/Piccolo. All of the characters shown off at Gamescon look mad fun, I'm a little disheartened hearing Krillin might be the hardest to pick up since he's my favorite, but I'll just have to try my hardest so I can keep up with everyone else. As far as characters I really want, Gotenks is the only one that's 90% likely considering the Buu saga only has one rep at the moment, and there hasn't been a fusion rep either. Beerus is seemingly locked given his relevance and could be fun too.

As far as less-than-likely characters, I'd love Roshi. He'd have some fun tricks in his moveset based around his general fighting technique, gettin' buff for certain moves, the mafuba and even silly one-off shit like hypnosis. If we get alt costumes they could do a models wap with Jackie Chun (unless he gets in over Roshi). My nigga Yamcha doesn't seem likely, and even if he did what are the chances he'd get his bandit outfit? Or anything that isn't the orange gi, we've got enough of that now.

There aren't any saiyan saga reps, and if we got one I'd take Nappa over Raditz since we don't have any big bodies outside of 16 and presumably Broly, if he's included. If we get anybody else from Namek it's probably going to be Ginyu, but I'd take Recoome over him since he's overall a more fun character to me.

Arale/Jaco/Yajirobe are my dark horses. If any of them get in they're on my team no matter what, even if they end up as the shittiest fucking characters in the game.

I haven't been this excited for a game in years, it still doesn't even seem real. So much love and care going into the first legitimate fighter since Super DBZ on the PS2, and it looks, plays, and sounds incredible. It's the Dragon Ball Z game we need, but don't deserve.

I don't mind that they added in SSB Goku and Vegeta. I mean they're basically obligated.

It would be like making a db fighting game post frieza saga and not including super saiyan goku

From what I've seen in matches, and what I've heard from Maximillian's discussion about him he seems like he gets in, stays in, and keeps the pressure/mixups going. Combos are short and don't do big damage but he's got tools to keep the opponent guessing and lets him attack from a safe distance.

Based on the way this game differs from typical DBZ games and the fact that they've stated to also focus on uniqueness of characters. I think they'll include some characters that are not the strongest but that could have a unique fighting style. Also they'll want to put in some more females.

Remember that fan-made 2D fighting game that had Mr. Satan and Babidi als weird playable characters? Kind of like that this one could have some weird characters.

Not really. You have 1771 unique team combinations with 23 characters in a 3v3.
If you were to pick 3 characters, that would still leave you with 1140 unique teams to potentially fight that don't use ANY of the characters that you have chosen. 3v3 gets MORE variety out of less characters than 1v1, it's not the other way around.

So easy to play and popular as a character that I can't see him not used a lot for the first 6 months of the game. His supers are simple and easy to use/DHC into, his combo strings are simplistic, and a raw beam assist will be a godsend to most characters.

I think he'll end up better than Goku. More aggressive, better combo damage, both of his supers are Air OK which is good for DHCs, and his assist will provide both cover for approaches AND lockdown for setups.
>Gohan
Doesn't strike me as top-tier, but not bad either. Needs to really close the gap due to smaller normals but doesn't have as many tools to get in as Trunks. His Supers aren't great (straight-up worse than Goku's).
>Frieza
Definitely Upper-mid at the lowest at this stage. His punish options seem very strong, and his combo game has some legs to it. Plus, his assist has good usage as a get-off-me or combo extender. Golden might be even better; not sure what the install does exactly.

Just plainly good. Doesn't seem to excel in one area but also seems pretty useful; his Bison slide looks good and he has a lot of options if Perfect Combination lands. His assist could have some good use in setups like Trunks or Piccolo crossups. Supers are kinda limited, if all-purpose.

Hardest to use of the 11, for sure. Designed to be hard to predict, so people just learning the game can't quite use him. Uses Rock/Senzu special like a simplified Faust, can delay and change elevation on his beam, has ki blasts that change direction, Afterimage mixups with fakeouts, Solar Flare punishes, Kienzan setups, his weird assist tech. I'm sure there could be something with whiffing his Level 3 after a Snapback too.

Fascinated by the incorporation of 17. Reminds me a little of Relius Clover from BlazBlue. Glad we've got a big body. He's the most fun-looking character to me, and I'm glad he looks good. His Heavy normals seem to just armor through shit while moving forward, his sheer variety of grabs gives him a lot of mixup options, he has a solid ranged option, his combo game looks strong, and they managed to make a Self-Destruct super look viable (I'm certain you could pressure someone into the corner, call Vegeta, and use him to cover the startup of the Self Destruct while locking them in place.

The problem with Super and the thing that makes Z iconic is their use of frames and the way they portray direction in Z a lot of it is flashy action tricks and neat art popping in your face while at the same time conveying how heavy and full of impact everything is. Super is fast and action packed with mediocre levels of clarity when it comes to direction and the use of Flash is horrendous and with what's essentially a super well known IP would have dedicated and high skill animators drawing in the hand drawn style to have reason to add in their flare.

This game inst going to be following the cannon is basically going to have its on what if story for the most part.

Some character transformations are just more resource heavy, the way arc develops there game the transformation would generally be a whole new model and honestly its just not worth it.
Its better to have the characters start off in their most iconic and popular forms to minimize all that resource usage.

The only characters that should honestly have mid fight installs should be characters with multiple iconic transformations, like freiza, and we already got ss blue as separate slots. Personally I believe transformations can still be a thing in the future with updates, balance changes etc. you can get away with having minimal changes to the characters moveset in order to show its powered up and maybe change colours/hair or things like that. Transformations that completely change the character model would be difficult to do, that stuff would be the same as making a whole new character for them.

Costumes aren't in the same scale as making a new character but are pretty damn close since they have to readjust all the character frames to works with the new clothes, from the lighting to tweaking the angles on anything new the character has like a hat or something similar.

I don't think if it's really is more iconic for Goku, but it is probably the most powerful "standard" form for a saiyan, so it's the best choice for a fighting game, same for the rest.

I picture the three of them as being different kinds of heavies.

16 is the heavy with a focus on throws who does a ton of damage and combos into them.
Broly is the heavy with a ton of super armor and with a balance between basic punches, grapples and blasts, while being the fastest out of the three.
Nappa is the heavy with no actual grabs and is the slowest, but deals the most damage at close range and has the most options for mid-long range.
