So I just came into some cash and I want to buy the PSVR because it seems cool and I've always wanted to play VR since I was a kid. I NEVER see any threads about it on here whatsoever, is it shit?
>>

The PSVR is pretty shit

Tracking is based on ancient ass PS Camera - it also reuses the shitty Playstation Move controllers which results in shaky, loose tracking that only works facing in one direction so games don't get to do cool roomscale stuff

Resolution is lower and visuals worse than the Vive/Oculus, it also can't run homebrew software - so no porn or experimental demos for you

If you wanna VR then get a Vive, or wait a couple years for true 2nd generation headsets to come about
>>
>>388499831
So all in all, it'd be a waste of money? Is there any redeeming factor/any specific piece of hardware that would be such a cool experience it would justify buying it?
>>
They all suck, especially the psvr. Get the vive if you gotta have a headset now or wait for 2nd gen which should be dope af
>>
>>388499967
My PC is a potato, that's the only thing stopping me from getting any PCVR shit.
>>
>>388499993
Wtf? Then use your cash on improving that, the headsets now admittedly have a few novel experiences but a better pc is a way better investment, just wait for the 2nd gen and buy a gpu or cpu or whatever
>>
>>388500126
New computer is a few grand, this VR shit is only like 500. I got 10,000 to fuck with.
>>
>>388500216
Ok, well, it can be that much if you are starting one from scratch. It's still worth it if you are planning on playing pc games for the next 4 years. Certainly a much better use of money than the worst vr headset with the least games
>>
>>388499449
>I am you, and you are me. From here on out, you're Big Dog.jpg
>>
>>388499449
It's shit because the tracking is very inaccurate
You shouldn't get VR unless you can afford the Rift or the Vive
>>
>>388500459
Hahaha.

>>388500439
Alright, that's a good point actually. I may just get a better gaming PC.

>>388500513
How bad is bad? Watching angry joe do a review rn. seems "alright" but it's a video..so idk
>>
>>388500578
>How bad is bad?
Well, it can work ok or make you motion sick and break your immersion
But it's never good
>>
>>388500753

I've never played with VR whatsoever before. Is it actually immersive and what causes the motion sickness?
>>
>>388500883
The motion sickness comes from the bad tracking
The frame rate actually is surprisingly stable for most titles
>>
>>388500938
Like, it feels like you're looking one way but the tracking of the head makes it slower?
>>
>>388500995
No the tracking can stop completely and work again a moment later
Or it can just constantly jump left/right / up/down by small amounts every frame
>>
>>388501113
Also the controllers have centimeter accuracy at best (if they work)
>>
>>388501113
All the time this happens? That sounds pretty awful.
>>
>>388500995
Motion sickness in VR is the same thing as sea sickness. So if you're susceptible to that, or worse car sickness then VR would probably make you feel ill also
>>
>>388501156
No, it works ok for some people
It depends on your room and possibly the hardware itself
>>
>>388501185
Oh no issues there.

>>388501276
As of right now I only have a normal PS4
>>
>>388501185
You can't get motion sickness with 1:1 tracking and teleport movement
>>
>>388501302
>As of right now I only have a normal PS4
No, I mean the PSVR hardware
People with a PS4 pro can have issues as well
>>
>>388501369
I've known people to get iffy just from having the goggles on in homespace

Some people just don't deal well with it
>>
vr is shit
the "games" are all either roller coaster type games wehre you sit on a track and get wheeled through a course like a 2000s arcade shooter or you have to use your stupid fucking controller as a wand to teleport around places
vr won't work until we get omni directional treadmills, full body mocap suits for controllers, and holo decks
>>
>>388501460

But does it feel like you're "there" on that shitty rollercoaster?
>>
>>388501460
>he doesn't use VR to be inside SFM scenes
>>
>>388501510
Of course it doesn't it feels like you're on your couch with a brick taped to your face

stay away from VR...overpriced, no steady flow of new games, nearly all games are in a concept stage or straight up mini-games, dust collector after 2-3 weeks. On top of that even the biggest pro (porn) becomes a chore after a month or so.
>>
>>388501664
Hahaha fair point

>>388501721
Is there ANY good games for it?
>>
>>388501775
>Is there ANY good games for it?
>>388501690
is the closest thing to a good game and that's a pc game
>>
>>388501775
No. There's no immersion (which is the point of VR) because you're still using your controller to do things and move.
>>
As someone who just got an oculus, I still recommend you wait. The tech is cool but the lack of resolution is REALLY noticeable (text up close if not HUGE is unreadable).

Also things in the distance are incredibly blurry.

Up close does have a cool effect i'll give it that, and I can see it being a big thing once you have 6k per eye res.
>>388501775
I will say that lone echo and robo recall are phenominal, and once you get past the low res you have moments like you feel you're there and those are fantastic.
>>
>>388502237
>>388501829

I wear glasses, how does that work?
>>
>>388502383
You will need to use them. Since vr acts as depth and view, if you don' wear glasses it will be blurry as fuck (much like how you see with no glasses).

Or get lenses with your prescription to put into the headset (you can order seperatly).
>>
>>388502383
you can slide the lenses in the VR goggles to a point that they work for you

but again, do not get it. it's awful.
>>
>>388502530

So they fit underneath the headset?
>>
>>388499831
>it also can't run homebrew software - so no porn or experimental demos for you
not OP but I heard there's something called trinus psvr that lets you use the thing for your pc
>>388502383
I've only tried the PSVR and they fit in there, can't say about the other two but considering how many people wear glasses I'm sure they thought of it
>>
>>388502545
>>388502530

As in, can I just wear them on my face and put the headset over my face?
>>
>>388502624
Thanks, I was worried about that.
>>
>>388502530
>>388502587
>>388502630
Yea. It's easiest to do in psvr and vive. Oculus you need super thin glasses to put on, it's the only set with poor glasses support. But if they are thin then it works fine.
