It depends on how good your aim is, your tacital awareness and how good you are at outsmarting the enemy team. Those are not Overwatch specific skills so you should be able to answer that to yourself in honesty and can then pick any hero accordingly.
Some heroes have lock-on weaponry or turrets that make it easier to apply damage if you can't hit anything.
Try to play each hero for a while to understand the abilities, movement options and counter picks that cause you trouble. It makes things a lot easier than relying on your (usually incredibly bad) teammates to do their job.
Any dps or tank combined with a healer is a great choice to play with someone else as then you have the most important roles covered and can deal with being flanked easier in case your team does not communicate well.

That said you shouldn't try to main. Try to have one or two chars per role you can do decently well.

as someone who played OW from s1 to s5, dont play it.

the dps insta locking is too problematic and there are better more balance games out on the market if you just want to frag stuff.

the devs also pander to dps players and gut tanks and healer just because of dps player's "feelings"
