There isn't much to do at endgame unless you're a class completionist or you really like some of the minigame fluff the game has.

I only raid one night a week for 3 hours and my static managed to finish savage after about a month. Most of the members don't even log on for raid anymore. The encounters are neat but I just wish there was more to actually progress on, maybe release ten bosses every raid patch instead of four. Yeah I know people keep bringing up that "only 10% of players clear savage" statistic but it's misleading as hell, anyone who actually wants to clear it can, the majority of the 90% that don't probably don't care about clearing it.

When I played, I just pretended there was a hole cut out in the suit, like you see in some animes with kemono characters. It's a shame you can't toggle it, though. I don't mind cloth/leather stuff, but it doesn't make much sense for metal armor to have such a glaring weak spot. Would make more sense to tuck the tail down a leg or something. I wonder if that would affect their balance a lot, though.

I'm glad I played a WHM before picking up a tank, it makes it extremely easy to spot when someone is just a complete shitter. It also clued me in that Holy spam is a WHM's way of letting you know that you can do bigger pulls and giving everyone a headache.

It's a pretty awful MMO. Ironically it's a decently good single-player RPG.
To be a good MMO it needs non-trivial multiplayer activities and shit in open world that isn't just "story" questing.
Right now the only multiplayer aspect is in PVP (which isn't very good) and raiding (which lasts for very sporadic two months at best).
And guess what, the devs and most of the fanbase are proud of how antisocial and "accessible" this game is.

It's also the reason why you actually get more personal DPS in poor parties in the current primals. The percentage of time that's not *boss doing lengthy phase transition* is higher when the boss takes longer to kill.

This isn't something new either. It was really well known in T13. If you could get to almost enrage AND get padding on the adds, you could be sitting at like 520 instead of 470 if everything went right.

AOE pull? Throw down your edge AOE twice and do your DPS rotation while throwing in Dark Arts + Abyssal Drain. Dark Arts + Dark Passenger if you want to be a try hard. You're the CHAD tank, my friend, do what you want and hit darkest night every cooldown.

Boss / Single target? Threat combo once with dark side for the last of it, then switch to DPS rotation for everything else. Toss your darkest night on the plebs of your group if there's going to be AOE damage so you can get a quick fix of 50 blood.

Stroke dark arts like its your dick, make sure to have MP so you can dark arts your bloodspiller over anything else.

It's a singleplayer MMO that has a mediocre FF story told in a far worse way than most FF stories. If you enjoy sitting through hundreds of hours of silent, repeated emotes and fetch quests, you'll love it.

Other than that, it's literally just a WoW clone. Is it the best MMO out? Eh. WoW is still shitty, BDO is basically a phone game, GW2 has a shitty story, Albion is just bad. Wildstar has a tiny population, but I'd say it's better than FFXIV in pretty much every regard except visuals.

There are much better MMOs, but they're niche ones, like EVE online. I'd really say go for GW2 or Wildstar, unless you're really needing to scratch that FF itch.

Siphon Strike in Darkside gives half a Dark Arts. In grit, it gives a full Dark Arts. The difference between Grit/Darkside and pure Darkside is actually quite small ignoring Blood Weapon. The potency of a Dark Arts for anything is 140 potency, the exception being Carve and Spit which gives 350 potency.

Single target wise, you basically just Souleater spam. TBN is a 10 potency gain every 3 successful pops, so take care only to use it when you know its going to pop and you know you wont bleed blood gauge. The reason it's such a low gain is because of the fact that Bloodspiller is on gcd, which means that every 3 bloodspillers acquired via TBN you are losing a souleater combo + 1/2 Dark Arts (from the combo's siphonstrike in Darkside) + 3 Dark Arts (the MP used to cast TBN). This comes out to about 700 potency + 70 + 420 which equals 1190 potency which is only 10 less than the 1200 potency from 3 bloodspillers. While TBN is a technically gain, it is something that you don't really have to autist over if you're not confident. It may be a gain when you consider when phase shifts are up and openers where you can land an early Bloodspiller within Embolden/TA etc. but that's high level autism.

Aoe wise, Abyssal is always better mp wise, only unleash when you can't get a target close to another. Dark Passenger with Dark Arts is always worth it 2+ enemy wise just because Blind can work in your favor. If you really want to just aoe dps and say fuck it to the SCH who isn't dpsing , Abyssal is still better value than DP/DA (240 potency), Abyssal is somewhere like 3.5x uses which is 420 potency or so for the same MP, this is more for small pulls. However it's because of Quietus that you want to use DP/DA anyways due to it being off-gcd, generally you'll have an excess of mp. Your aoe pull should always be some variation of TBN -> Quietus -> DA/DP for heals/DA->DP eventually. Once you get into the flow of it, it's easy enough, just always have mp for TBN.

I guess you're just starting out then. Using blood price and blood weapon as soon as you start using your combos is most important, a DRK without mana isn't worth shit. After that spam unleash if you need to feel more secure and if it's single target get a agro generating combo in if needed. Otherwise use the damage combo with dark arts for syphon strike and souleater if you're able. Having enough mana for ~2 dark arts is a good metric but do not let it cap for full if you want to be efficient.


As opposed to Paladin or Warrior you don't switch between stances but turning grit on or off decides if you're dealing dmg or tanking. Leave dark arts always on.


Later stages is the balancing between health and mp with lots of regens while mitigating a shitload. Don't know which lvl you're at but it starts at about 50.

For crafters you want to just craft things til you hit level 15-20 on every crafter. And then do leve's for 20>70. You can also do collectables for 50>70. Mass crafting is also useful after level 20, but it can be tiring. There is also Ixali beast tribe for levels 15>50 and Moogle beast tribe for levels 50>60.

Housing is primarily glamour/bragging rights. It's a decoration minigame and about the only 'boost' you get is from being able to crossbreed seeds (which hasn't been relevant for 5 months and even then you're not making significantly more than your average crafter) and airships. Airships can be an okay steady flow of gil, but they also haven't gotten any updates since.... I dunno, 8+ months or so, so they're kinda outdated.

I dunno what the fuck is up with SE. They didn't even add a single new seed at HW's launch or anything new for airships.

Get a stack of Chakra to avoid clipping demolish, particularly if you've snapshoted buffs. My opener however is to form shift, charge and demo on pull, put up buffs with flank combo then perfect balance a ton of flank finishers and maybe refresh demo when it's off cooldown. Afterwards go back into flank combo for buffs then go into rear for damage and then play the rotation game. Save Forbidden Chakra for when your personal damage buffs are applied

That's a fair time to use it, yes. If you're confident you won't, you can try and line it up with riddle of fire and do a -> Highest potency oGCD -> Tornado Kick -> GL1 -> Lowest potency oGCD -> GL2 -> oGCD -> GL3 continue as normal.

Cooldowns won't always be optimal but in general try and weave oGCDs efficiently when rebuilding stacks.

If its possible dont pull, let the other tank pull, switching stances with PLD is the worst for all tanks, and agro combo is not as good as WAR/DRK.
OTing can be trick to get adds without switching to Shield Oath, but you'll get used to it, timing the Halone for when adds come out.
The rotation feels smooth and clean, is pretty easy and you can feel more the fight (mechanics and visuals).
There is a lot of cool swords and shields for glamour.
Agro management is not YOUR job, but the group as a whole, don't let scrubs shit talk about that.

PotD is shit at helping you learn rotations beyond the most basic shit and familiarizing yourself with your skills. Try a training dummy.

You want to get into af/ui using fire3/blizz3. At 60, since you have enochian and blizz4, you start with blizz3, enochian, blizz4 to get your three umbral hearts, then swap to fire using fire3, and blast away with fire4 at reduced mp cost thanks to your umbral hearts. Refresh af using fire1 every two to three fire4s, depending on your spell speed and how much you had to run around.

As for flare, it's your big aoe thing. Try fire3, fire2 twice, then flare, transpose, and repeat. When you hit 68, you get enhanced umbral hearts which allows you to flare twice if you have umbral hearts active, which means you want to use blizz4 after a transpose. You can also mix in a thunder2/4 in there since it's an aoe dot.

Give a few dungeons a try and just practice your rotations. It's mostly a rhythm thing.

Went from king of AoE to no AoE jobber.
If you fuck up you lose minutes of buildup for your burst. Dragoon suffers from the same.
Pet AI is bad and it takes a while to register pet actions too.
Their support is laughable. Devotion should be party wide with its current numbers.

So I am leveling my first char atm and having a blast but I just dont know which class i should play at endgame. Currently I am a Dragoon at level 42 but Ast and Mch look pretty cool too. Which class would you guys suggest. Also im playing with a controller.
