Both. The force still hurts your arms and it drains your stamina. Boxers for example.

Blocking resulting in less damage makes more sense, but blocking resulting in less stamina is more fun gameplay-wise.

Chip damage is the better of the two, so long as you can't actually die from it.

Just use wavedash to dodge the attack while getting in range for an attack

The world needs more fighting h-games, there's only a small handful of them, and only a scant few are worth even considering playing. It's a real shame, as the concept has so much potential.

Warframe did both. Stamina made blocking almost overpowered because you could tank almost everything while out of cover by whipping out melee but it was shitloads more fun

I don't think I ever really touched melee when they switched to reduced damage

Stamina works fine in fighting games, if you're using it a as a system to discourage turtling.

Those have far more issues than stamina, and their systems punish you for throwing out attacks, which is counter-intuitive.
