Undertale is a pretty good game. I'd rate it 8/10. There are way too many weirdos in the community that rate it 11/10 and it made me want to disassociate myself from any discussion about the game. It's a game I where keep my thoughts to myself and don't want to risk communicating with anyone.

I've seen that. I'm apart of the SNK and Bravely fandoms. Sometimes I get upset about Revo composing for Second. When I asked the fandom of Revo's other band, Sound Horizon to compensate something so that Revo could compose for Bravely Third or do another SNK opening, Laurants (Sound Horizon fans) got upset and some had an elitist attitude toward me. I've heard about Sound Horizon having an elitist fanbase in the past and most Laurants I talked to were nice to me. But unfortunately, it seems some elitists are still around.

Funny you mention Blizzard fanboys since I spent most of the morning dealing with a friend and his fanboy butthurt. We both recently quit XIV due to lack of things to do and he was talking about going back to legion, and any of my (what I felt to be) fair criticism of the game was responded to with extreme butthurt. Oh boy if you want a fandom I truly hate, and that's saying a lot since this series isn't that good to begin with, then look no further. Fandoms are possibly the most autistic thing to spawn from "nerd culture." Now, I have nothing against people with similar interests congregating. My friends and I all enjoy video games, it's one of the things we have in common.

But fandoms take it to fucking eleven. It isn't just a hobby. It's a subset of a hobby. Fan art. Fan fiction. Fan theories. Cosplaying. It's a disgusting, slavish devotion to a very specific show or game.

Actually that isn't entirely true. Many fans DO create fanworks (including fan fiction, games, remixes, art, etc) and "healthy" fandoms have at least some fan content creators. I'm not making a statement on the quality of work or how canon it is, I'm merely noting that work IS done and that takes time and energy that a person is choosing to invest into that fandom's setting. Also, what about when fan works are made canon? An easy example I can think of: every mega man robot master design contest.

If you think that's a bad example because of sex appeal, look at Souls once came to PC. Demon's Souls was a solid, niche, game, and Dark Souls was solid too. No one in their right mind says you should skip Extra because it's important for Unlimited and Alternative. The call backs lose a lot of their impact if you skip it and read a synopsis. The ending is generally hated, but Alternative alone is 70 hours long, and they like the stuff that precedes it.
