Why is this game so unfairly hard as fuck. Just a few slashes from the end boss or mage goblins and you have to restart the entire mission from the start. 30-40 mins of gameplay gone in a instant. How do I get good?

I pretty much entirely agree with this. I feel that Jiang Wei should be lower and Guan Ping should be higher, but that's about it.

I've only ever dabbled a bit with the Gundam and Zelda spinoffs. Is getting 8XL Complete a good jumping on point for the mainline games?

8XLC is pretty excellent. 8 is great in general, and XLC bundles the typical XL continuation along with the original version.

Xtreme Legends is essentially an expansion pack for the base game, usually with more missions and weapons.
Empires is another expansion with a strategy-focused campaign.

Xtreme legends add more stages for some characters that don't get a spotlight in vanilla DW8.
Empires is an entirely different spinoff where your main goal is to conquer China. No story mode a la vanilla DW8, it depends on your choices. You can create OC donut steels. DW8E you can produce abominable offspring with your waifu.

Li Dian had more actual involvement in the history than him and he's the most basic entry for a character yet.

Xu Shu is simply just fun to play as thanks to his move set. In every other regard he's a bad add to the series and a bit of a pointless one too.

I am currently playing DW8 Complete edition and it is worth it - lots of content. Maybe trade in DW8 and get that. Not sure when DW9 is coming out, so that should hold you over. I'm getting Musou Stars in a couple days so that should be fun too.

It has that nostalgic dub (I think the voice actor is the same for Cao Ren and Zhuge Liang, for instance, also Dian Wei sounds drunk which is awesome). You can also download the japanese voices if you want from the PSN store.

We're not playing Sanguozhi though. We're playing an adaptation of RotK which takes many liberties with history. In terms of favorite characters in DW why should people take into account deeds that were not shown in game? You and I know Ma Chao is a giant asshole historically but in-game he's this justicefaggot with a fun horse moveset, and it's highly likely fans voted him because of this.
Xu Shu did nothing of note but he placed high.
Cao Cao ordered the massacre of civilians but he placed high.
My point is I guess in the end it's a video game and not actual history and fans are likely voting for the DW characters they like. I don't like the results too but I can't whine that much since I didn't vote.

It's just a popularity poll based on the games. Don't think too hard on it.

It may lead to special costumes as dlc for the high ranking characters though. Not sure what else will tangibly come from it other than to drive interest for DW9 by keeping the series fresh in people's minds.

Well it depends what you want. I personally liked Spirit of Sanada for the story, and that it tried to be different. But I'm biased towards Samurai Warriors.

Hyrule Warriors was good on the Wii U. I liked Warriors Orochi 3 and DW8 Complete Edition. Whatever they're musou games, just pick one that looks interesting and go for it. Most are really cheap too so no risk.

Got that Musou itch creeping up on me again, and I need a /v/ recommendation. My stats:
>Haven't really played any since PS2-era, aside from Dynasty Warriors Gundam
>I liked the Empires versions because I'm a fag for character creation, created-character development, and free-form gameplay
>Have a PS4, have credit card, have PS+ (fuck you Sony you used to be cool but I'm leaving consoles after this gen)

Should I get the fancy version of DW8:Empires or the latest SamuraiWarriors:Empires? Should I hold out for DW:9 (/DW9:Empires)? Is the genre just fucked now so I should get an older generation of Musou instead? Get me up to speed.

I liked Samurai Warriors Empires for PS4. The gameplay is sligthly different (hyper attacks with the triangle button) but it was fun. Spirit of Sanada was my favorite of the series.

You can play the other Dynasty Warriors Gundam games if you want. Musou games are dirt cheap usually so find one that interests you.
