These, leaning more toward Troika but Looking Glass is a really solid choice too. Troika edges it out because I bought all their shit and despite every game being really flawed in some way they were all extremely memorable and suck with me a long time. I should probably dig out my boxes/discs for Arcanum and ToEE and Bloodlines and make a cum shrine and take a picture for posterity but it makes me too sad.

I've played dozens of different playthroughs and quite frankly its not supposed to be balanced like that, different builds give different results, difficulty levels, it never needed it, and says something about its world. The combat was inorganically exploitable, but its outweighed by its merits

Baldur's Gate 2's balance being awful is mostly up to the player to decide, though. And having a bad character in BG2 so things are balanced against you is still easier than having a bad character in Arcanum, both because of large(r) party size in BG2 and being able to rest every 5 feet to spam spells and shit. In Arcanum having a shitty character is much, much more of a misery. So what I'm getting at is that while both games are unbalanced, BG2 has awesome-button unbalancing while Arcanum has misery unbalancing.

And PoE being balanced is also a misery because everything is a horrible slop of being good. To compare to BG2 again, if you have a shitty character you can still make things easier for yourself by prebuffing and using cheese tactics and rest spamming, and if you have a stronger character you can do that less which gives you finer grain control over your experience. In PoE you have Josh Sawyer breathing heavily over your neck all the time to make sure you aren't having too much fun.

I'm trying to hear your point but its lacking in substance.

Mages had to chug pots, techies had to chase parts and schematics, if you have an unfocused class in any serious rpg you're going to have trouble, that being said almost all the skills had a viable use in most quests if not chains. Some were nieche but offered serious benefits on occaison. You had to really gimp yourself.

Thats more than viable, but the roleplay side of it is a self imposed limitation, not a balance issue, if you're going tech there are plenty of ways to make it less than a reload fest like the power armour equivalent, charged dex rings, mechanised glasses, hell the second gun you can make will blow most non magick users away most of the game, let alone the chemistry chain.
