Not hyped per se but I'm looking forward to it. People turned heel on Sun and Moon for its emphasis on cutscenes which kind of baffled me. Pokemon is already a turn based RPG so some more elaborate and well-directed storytelling doesn't really hurt it for me. First time I went through a Pokemon story and felt like it was something that could entertain kids rather than bore them. Even Gen 5 couldn't get its story straight and basically gave up on the story emphasis in the sequels. I saw it as a huge step up from Gen 6, though still not as good as Platinum or HGSS.

This. I was close to throwing my 3DS at the wall. The scenes involving the little girl with the white dress were especially cringeworthy.
The worst part is that they always repeated the EXACT SAME THINGS for several cutscenes in a row (and several times per cutscenes) to make sure that the most retarded children would get it.

children will buy it in droves and disgruntled and displeased fans will STILL buy it in droves
it's one of those franchises the devs could do anything with and it will always have good marketing, a younger audience, and people who refuse to stop buying the newer installments
not trying to imply i didn't have fun with xy, oras and sun and moon but it was still awful after the high quality of black/white 2, HGSS and 50% platinum

Sure.
I skipped Sun and Moon so all those Pokemon are new to me.

For Pokemon 8 I do think they need to do at least 100 new Pokemon before counting new forms. Keep legendary Pokemon to a minimum like in X/Y (max it out at 5 or 6). Whatever they do, no demos to datamine, and don't announce more than 40 of them before release.

Add in some new online modes like invasions and ranked 6v6 singles without Team Preview and I'll play it online every day (I used to play Showdown nearly every day on the treadmill).

After Game Freak finally did it in SM, I'm baffled as to why it took them 20 years to design more single player-oriented 'boss' encounters like the Totem Pokemon. They were probably the most enjoyable new thing in those games. They didn't even need to upend the basic rules of the combat system, they just gave reasons for why Totem Pokemon get boosted stats and gang up on you 2v1, and boom, there it is. I'd call it genius... had it happened a decade ago.
