Gearbox can and probably does absorb the losses from Battleborn because in Texas there is something like a 15% subsidy for video game production. That means the taxpayer paid for 15% of the costs of making that pile of shit and probably continues to pay for an immense amount after release because of "patches" and the release of "free mode" counts as "development".

They probably pulled the same tax exploit with Aliens as well as Douk. They probably have a bunch of pseudo-projects just leeching money from the government like they leeched money from Sega to make this pile of shit.
