>>388434472
Go fast.

They'll only target you when the Carar infection passes a certain stage. If you move fast, tech up, reach the research lab, and research the cure, they'll only target you between the lab (forces stage 4) and the cure.
>>
How's the VR mode nowadays?
>>
>>388433573
Do the Peepers have something to do with the Precursors?
>>
>>388434751
At the beginning, hunger is easy enough with fish (with salt for outings), water with bladderfish (or salt + coral).

Priority order should be:
- Tank
- Glider
- Base
- Battery chargers
- Movile vehicle bay (hard)
- Seamoth
- Floating island
- Lantern trees
- Bioreactor
- Water purifier

Once you have lantern trees, bioreactors, and water purifiers in your base, it'll generate an infinite amount of food, water, and salt.

>>
>>388435794
Yes. The planet has a serious fucking problem with the Carar virus, which only Sea Dragon Leviathans can cure through their secretions. With only one hatched Leviathan left on the planet, Precursors engineered a piping system and species (peeper) which would go to the Leviathan, use the piping system to travel across the planet, and distribute the antidote in a wide area.
>>
>>388434791

Early access devs are shit. Every single one.
>>
>>388435859
This isn't too dissimilar from my itinerary.

I tend to go for battery chargers and a base a bit earlier so I don't have to worry about juice running out and having to make a bajillion batteries (copper is now a bit more valuable that it's used in computer chips) but otherwise the same. Also the mobile vehicle bay can be a bitch to find sometimes.
>>
>>388436003
Right. I'm speaking of being able to always reach 100% food and hydration at one place.
>>
>>388436232
I put chargers a bit lower since I'm considering the extra batteries you'll make for the charger.

E.g., Seamoth comes with an ion cell, find or make two more cells, run down one or two cells getting the charger, install charger and slot depleted cells into it.

Same principle with Glider, batteries, and battery charger, though four extra.

So here's a question: How do you unlock the thermometer?
>>
>>388433671

>>
>>388435859
Marblemelons give more power than lantern fruit.

>>388436142
It wasn't intentional. The piping system was to keep the Sea Emperor supplied with oxygen rich water. The Sea Emperor used its telepathic link to draw peepers carrying seeds into the pipe so it could have some plants. A side effect is that the peepers that return to the surface have the cure and are put into the food chain.

nav beacons become essential for knowing where you've been imho. I always use it to label entrances to caves or the underground areas like Lost River.
>>
>>388440689
I use nav beacons to mark my base.
>>
>>388440689
nav beacons are also good at setting up entry routes for the cyclops into the lower parts of the map
>>
>>388440721

>>
>>388439512
>Does anyone else find the world to be incredibly small once you visit every biome at least once?
It is relatively small. A price you pay for a small team developed, entirely hand-placed world. It's great while you explore it, but the space is limited and lacks replay value. It's an unavoidable trade-off.

>>388435187
>eating it raw increased thirst
It makes you sick and probably induces diarrhea and/or vomiting, that is why you lose water. Body tends to react to elements it's not sure how to handle by "washing" them away with from your intestines and/or stomach by flooding it with water that will mechanically pump them away from your body.
>>
>>388440689
nav beacons are a great quality of life improvement if you take the time to create them
air bladder is only useful when you don't have the seaglide but then it's pretty useful
never used gravball

>>

Got it. I used a nav beacon or two to give me frame of reference points, (define a plane) but 'two' didn't seem like I was making much use of it.

I was thinking the seaglide beat the bladder, but hey, can't hurt to have both I guess.
>>
>>388435613
I just got an Oculus and the VR is pretty cool but it suffers from the same problems as the rest of the game with frame drops
>>
>>388441331
>no thermometer
WHAT
TELL ME YOU ARE LYING
>>
>>388439512
I still prefer it over procedurally generated shit.
Mind that the game isn't meant to be played forever. By mid-game you become more or less self-sufficient and after that the only thing left to do is to get cured and GTFO.
>>
>>388440563
>muh optimal spot for thermal generators
Pretty sure the reactor has on/off functionality: it produces energy when the temperature is above 30 and does not when it's lower. There is nothing more optimal about it: if it's stable 30+ degrees region, it generates power. It does not generate more/faster in warmer spots.

The same goes for bio-reactor. Different materials don't actually increase the speed of energy production, only the amount of time it takes to burn it. All generators except for Solar produce a set, stable energy as long as a simple condition is met.

>>388441243
Because the game uses doors as a way to gate you away from certain late-game content, thus forces you to fetch laser cutter from some wrecks before.
It's like asking "why do I need to unlock this power to unlock certain location" in metroidvanias.
>>
>>388441446
They made thermometers default part of vehicle equipment instead. I can't say I'm particularly fond of this decision myself, but there you go. Again: temperature does not particularly matter, it has a proper spectrum, but as far as the game is concerned, the only two values that matter are "bellow 30" and "above 30".

>>388441329
Yeah... good luck with it, and thanks for missing the point entirely.
>>
>>388439512
Yes, the world is small. They fucked up by not making the ocean deeper and larger. The cyclops can barely traverse the bottom of the ocean without constantly avoiding collisions. The excuse constantly for that is that they didn't procedurally genrerate it, but why can't a deep ocean be made by "hand"?
>>
>>388441463
I think he means that you need to scan for laser cutter fragments since the last patch.
It's pretty stupid imo, needing a diamond was a pretty good way to stop you from building it right away.
>>
>>388440962
We USED to have a thermometer for that.

But in any event, around thermal vents on the surface generally anything at 40 or higher is just fine for a thermal plant.
>>
>>388440689
Air bladder is either slower than or only as fast as the seaglide and only useful for ascending. It's there to bridge the gap.

Gravball is a way to make catching fish EZmode before you get the stasis rifle or propulsion cannon. However, it completely wrecks any nearby breakable coral.

Its secret utility is throwing it near stalkers and metal salvage. Stalker teeth for days.
>>
>>388441331
The markiplier doll was in the previous update actually.

Post yfw
>Multiple Leviathan-class signatures detected beyond this point. Are you sure whatever you're doing is worth it?
>>
>>388441995
I'm gloating the "outrageous" reason that multiplayer focus allocates resources away from making the game GOOD and towards making it "functional for an army of ungrateful cretins who play games because they are too much of a pussy to go and drink with their friends, and who really don't actually care about the rest of the game".

This might shock you - be completely beyond your comprehension in fact - BUT GAMES HAVE LIMITED RESOURCES TO WORK WITH. And over the last few years, there has been an incredibly annoying trend of funneling those resources into multiplayer functionality, which is very expensive and complicated to add in a 3D real-time game, rather than into making the actual core gameplay loop satisfying and meaningful.

She tamed stalkers, then took out a reaper with only a heatknife and strapped it to their cyclops and dragged it home. Another reaper followed her and fucked them up, though. She and the old dude died, the son made it back to the floating island and seppuku'd.

Why build in the shallows though?
And did making it so large feel like an ordeal? I'm worried that if I make mine larger traipsing through it will feel annoying.

I had that happen to me in the worst possible way.

>Land about 1.5 km away
>That message pops up on my screen

Surprisingly nothing attacked me, but I've never been more terrified in a videogame.

Is the vertical connector a pretend vent for the oxygen supply?
i slapped an oxygen pump on the base and led a bunch of pipes from it to the surface

I guess it makes sense. I built mine even shallower, actually, but right on the edge of a kelp forest. Vaguely worried that there were resources out there I'd need/want to be closer to though.

I remember gearing up and deciding to go out to one of the 700m lifepod signatures and thinking "Well, I'm just using a seaglide, and it's night, but I'll just travel out there on the surface, wait until its light, then dive to find them. Not much aggressive on the surface!"
Mother of god, that was a horrifying night. Nothing happened of course, but I didn't know what reefbacks were/sounded like yet.

I like to think that the fish itself is extremely salty but one of its organs can be used to filter (or rather absorb) the salt out of sea water for human consumption.

The organ being pretty small, it can only absorb so much salt before becoming corrupted and unusable.

I agree with them. Guns aren't necessary in every game or situation.

You can go play some brutal doom for your bloodbath needs, it's okay not to be in a videogame's demographic.

Its a stitch of like 8 pictures. Basically start at the surface snap a shot, and just go straight down, taking another picture at every ~10 feet or so then blend them all together in photoshop

I want to do another one that goes from the surface all the way down to blood kelp zone

DESU, if you heart guns and can't stand people who don't like guns disagreeing with you and want to vote with your dollar, don't get the game. That's perfectly reasonable, that's what you're supposed to do if you feel strongly enough about it. Don't throw a shitfit, don't say that they're a bunch of commies for selling a game you don't like, don't say it's a shit game despite never playing it. Just don't buy it.

But on the other hand, they clearly did not make their little political stand at the expense of the actual game or game design.

I do think the game could use a dedicated weapon against mid-szied predators (making bonesharks ignore your cyclops made it better though it's a cheap solution imo), but it's a minor thing and the game is still enjoyable without them.

I've gotten pretty far with nothing but the knife and the repulsion gun.
Bonesharks are cunts, but afaict there's no resource to get from them. I don't think making the cyclops immune to them was cheap; it seems like that's how it always should have been; why the duck are they attacking random metal objects that don't smell like food, and don't taste like it either? Especially when floating or falling rocks are pretty damn common.
>>
>>388441956
The cyclops power system needs to be done in general. I think a cool plan would be a reactor in the Cyclops that gives a lot of energy and rewards going out to collect resources.
>>
>>388448572
the punch deals more damage quicker than the drill though

you kill bonesharks in 3 hits with punches and it takes quite a bit longer to drill them to death
>>
>>388448963
Sure, you can stasis rifle + knife everything, but it's boring and it breaks immersion.
If you can kill everything anyway and in lots of situations killing IS the optimal solution, why not provide a method that isn't dull and wonky as fuck?
You're probably right that bonesharks attacking your sub is unrealistic, but then so are Crabsquid attacks and those are still in. I guess the devs didn't want to make you feel completely safe while in the Cyclops, they just couldn't decide exactly how unsafe you're supposed to feel.
Also, for the last time, I think the lack of guns is a minor thing due to the game's tone and it detracts little from the game's value.

What? Cyclops works on troll physics power. Build a power cell charger in your cyclops and charge your power cells with your cyclops power at a rate higher than the loss of power from the cyclops.
>>
>>388451074
they fixed that, it doesn't work anymore the recharge rate is 1/1

Yeah, you either stock up on powers/ion cells, use the thermal module, or use the seamoth with 4 solar chargers. Seamoth with 4 solar chargers charge cells the fastest, so far.
>>
When you're in the cyclops and looking through a camera, the only way I know of to get back to your character's view is to press E, but that also makes you stop piloting the ship which isn't useful when you're being chased and need to use a decoy or go max speed.

How do you get out of the camera view without letting go of the wheel?
>>
>>388451575
Press esc.
>>
>>388451628
Oh. I never tried it since that's always been the menu button. Thanks.
>>
>>388451538
couldn't you make like 6 thermal modules and recharge the cyclops that way if you go in lavaland?
>>
>>388451356
What horrible news. Guess I need to start whipping up a couple away bases.
>>
>>388451538
Not sure if the thermal modules stack.
>>
>>388452098
It's not that troublesome. Put two (or more) loaded cell chargers in each base, and swap out cells as you pass a base. Puts excess power to work.
