So i got the Ace Attorney trilogy for 3ds and i was having a blast and ran through the first game in like 3-4 days.

Then i finish the game and i unlock the bonus "from ashes" case and it's so bad i've been taking a whole week to play it. What the fuck is this? Why is there a cowboy cop? Why is Officer Meekins draw in a completely different art style fromt the rest of the game? Why are people literally just saying to me " I know the answer but im not telling you" straight up for no apparent reason and phoenix doesn't ask why not?

I heard these games get more and more whimsical and out there after the first one but this case is so unbearable i wonder if 2 is even worth playing.
>>
1-5 was written after the trilogy was done, so it's a bit different in a lot of aspects.
AA2 has the strongest finale out of the trilogy.
>>
Rise from the Ashes is one of the best cases in the series you disgusting pleb retard. Kys.
>>

>>
1-5 is a great case. You trying to find fault with everything even though AA series is purposely silly and anime doesn't mean shit.

Then again you'd fit right in with the rest of /v/ having a hateboner about every single case of the series. I'll be seeing your shitposting in AA threads from now on chump.

1-5 definetly feels misplaced in AA1, not because of its placement in the timeline - It's actually the single most logical place for it to be and helps set up AA2 - but rather it was written by Takumi post AA3 and this is reflected in its design and writing - It's a lot more complex than any other AA1 case by a far margin, but it also sticks out because AA1 is a nicely self-contained story with 1-4 being an outstanding climax to it all.

1-5 can't be the climax of AA1 because AA1 already had that in 1-4, but neither can 1-5 do too much because that might impede AA2.

It's still a solid case but I've never figured out why people suck its dick so much

And he has no reason not to be one either. That's true for 100% of the character gimmicks. There's no reason for maya to be obsessed about burgers/ramen either. There's no reason for Edgeworth to be a secret fan of a kids show. There's no reason why Phoenix should style his hair this way.
It's just part of their characterization. Period.

You're complaining about a man pretending to be a cowboy, after a case where you cross examined a parrot. Fuck you and your opinions.

That case was just bad compared to the other four.

>>
>>388411161
I honestly expected people to agree that this was a terrible case. It has nothing i enjoyed from the previous cases.

They were all so tightly written with no filler and fluff. Then i get to this one and im constantly just going "why aren't they just telling me what i want to know?". Like as far as i know the sushi lady is on my side now after the first day but she still wont just tell me about sl-9 or whatever even though we are working together now. Ema wont just tell me what happened, im sure theres a reason for it but after Edgeworth doing the same thing previously it's just annoying etc.

It all just feels like fluff.

This was the case that made AA click with me and go from being something I was lukewarm on to one of my favorite series. The build up is slow yes, and something I got frustrated with too, but the payoff is oh so worth it.

If it's any consolation it's by far the longest case in the original series so you won't have to put up with another one so slow for a long time.

Because there would have to be something seriously wrong with someone to dress up and act "in character" as an old west sheriff to work everyday.

Again, that's not eccentric like dressing in French aristocratic fashion and being a bit stuffy, or wearing a gaudy pink suit. It's basically a only a mentally ill person would do that. It's grating and annoying.

If they had him dress like a stereotypical movie dick like gumshoe i wouldn't complain. Say whatever the fuck you want about other games but in the first game there is nothing else this wacky.

Within the established world, and within the established world, that court would accept a parrot as evidence. There is nothing in the established tone of the game UP UNTIL THAT POINT that suggests there are wacky cowboy cop men walking around. Merely characters whose eccentricities are used to elevate their stock character nature. Everyone is a stereotype of their profession, not just a wacky version of their profession.

It's generally agreed to be a great case, but you're right in the sense that it takes a while to get going.

You're absolutely right in noticing that it's different from the rest of the game, though. It was made after AA2 and 3 for the DS remake of AA1 to sell it better in Japan (originally these were GBA games). That's why it suddenly has the fingerprinting gimmicks and such.

that was a non-argument so i didn't bother replying. Yes, in a world of heightened reality, someone would go that far. That's the quintessential kind of clothing for that type of character. The only other way they could have gone is a top hat and monocle type thing.

Just like in real life a rich sadistic kind of guy like Mr.white wouldn't wear a gaudy pink suit, he'd wear whatever is currently high-fashion suit in GQ magazine, but in the games tone of "taking the stock character to their logical extremes" the pink suit and jewel encrusted rings make sense.

Detective stock character taken to his logical extreme is Gumshoe, not a fucking cowboy.

Why would they accept it though? Was it "established in the tone of the game" that a parrot can be cross-examined? Was it done before and its ok now?

So something needs to have a history of being done before to make sense to you, cowboy cops included but cross-examined parrots not included. This is some established autism alright.

So, you're complaining because Marshalls characterization isn't even lazier? :^) Should he wear a big COP hat, have a pair of handcuffs-styled-sunglasses, a bat sticking out of his ass and 911 tattooed on his forehead?
>>388414284
His name should give you a clue. The term "gumshoe" has a specific meaning. Are you saying because Marshall likes cowboys, all cops should be cowboys? Are you this dumb? :^)

Let's talk about the first case translated of DGS instead. Easily among the best cases in the series.

Sheriffs in western fiction are portrayed as judge, jury, and executioner. They're the entire judicial branch in one body, western sheriffs at least. There are people in America that don't make a real distinction and use the two terms interchangeably, why would you expect anything different from a japanese company that's based in a country where cowboy gets these as results and sheriff in katakana gets shelves before sheriffs?
>>
>>388414490
The fact that it's the first animal is irrelevant. You asked me why i would think it's acceptable to bring a parrot into court.

I said because up until that point it's well established that they aren't following any serious court rules, it's all kind of loosey goosey. So sure, they would let a parrot it.

If you asked me "what if there was a cop but he spoke like a bad western movie and dressed like a cowboy all the time" i would say "well that's weird because that has nothing to do with being a cop and this is the last case so it sure as shit would be a weird tonal shift."

If they had someone in case 2 or whatever who was working in the hotel but for some reason dressed and spoke like samurai that would have helped me accept le funny cowboy man in the last case.

While its so well established that police are following theirs right? The mascot, police chief being a lazy fuck everytime you examine him, Gumshoe being a detective at all with how much info he's leaking to you and a shit ton of other things clearly show how strict and tight the police are right? Really a no-nonsense force even by real world standards.

he dresses like what the japanese think of when they think "wild west". Which is also why he calls people bambina and likes spaghetti (because of spaghetti westerns, geddit).
>>
>>388415691
looks like two sheriffs or state troopers or whatever they are called, probably in the south, on horses.

So now, let me ask you again. Is Marshall any of those things? Is he not a former-detective (not a sheriff) who is now a security guard (not a sheriff) who dresses in OLD WESTERN SHERIFF outfits (not modern sheriff uniform).

Are you honestly so stupid that you thought i was debating the existence of sheriffs? I'm perplexed by your "gotcha" attitude, you've had it all throughout this thread and franky, and i mean this, it's embarrassing how spectacularly you miss the point of everything i say. You wanna do this? Really? Alright, he's not even a cowboy.

Poncho and bandanna are desperado and criminal tropes, signifying his contrast with being an actual cop and him being a black sheep in the force, something he enforces throughout the case. You literally cannot into tropes or nuances even though they're shoved in your face.

Yeah, how about you go to your parents and tell them that you're upset that a fictional cop dresses up a a cowboy.
Your "point" is laughably weak and has only one valid argument to it, which is "I don't like it".
>>
>>388416108
okay see thats interesting interpretation, but when he talks he's clearly trying to convey a sheriff image not a bandit one,

He has quotes that i can't exactly phrase but he says like "Back in the old west sheriffs didn't need evidence" or something like that.

But that's a good point and i can take that.
>>
>>388416305
He also says "gringo" more than one time. Would a sheriff or a desperado say that?

Its a mish-mash of tropes.

I think it works best if you see it as extra content rather than its own standalone story. It had a lot of great character moments like that one (Larry disguising) and saw that something like 2-3 didn't really make sense so they had another writing pass, which REALLY helped that case.

Correct. They were mostly founded in the late 19th century, pic related here's a snippet of the book Frontier Cowboys and the Great Divide. Modern mounted police have obviously changed over time in appearance, and Marshall is a prime example of a character that would have loved to play the role of a police unit from the older era. Interpret it however you want, but Marshall has a thing for the wild west and has the profession of a patrol officer/detective. Where's the problem?
