Probably the worst "gamer" acting to date. I'm assuming the players fucked a bunch of things up because the speaker kept giving them stern queues. Facial recognition through webcam is previewed and looks laughably bad even without the garbage acting. Really great reaction images from those. Smooth sailing for a little while as players leave orbit. Crash happens and halts progress for like 10 minutes with the lead speaker going red in the face and aggressively issuing orders to try and salvage the presentation. Restart happens and the players have to start from the very beginning of the demo. This time however during a conversation with an npc, the camera keeps switching to the player character making some goofball clown face with aforementioned facerig for whatever reason. I can't even begin to explain how funny this was. Pure comedy. More crappy bugs pop up here and there and for some reason the improv gamer dialogue continues even though theyre just trying to get back to the point before the crash. Finally get back into space, no crashes this time. Space ship stutters like its on a rail line because I guess they haven't coded any sort of inertia. Players reach a crashed ship. Audio levels are all over the place and the banter persists. Gamer girl somehow gets fucking lost inside the crashed ship. Both players then eventually leave the crash site and are met with pirates I'm assuming. Space ships shoot at our main characters as they eventually start fighting back and call for back up. Back up arrives featuring the first new mega ship in the game. Mega ship takes about 5 minutes at about 5 inches per second to land and pick up our main characters. Main characters attempt to board the ship with their car via ramp when the car fails and falls through the ramp. "Third times the charm" is said as the car then literally explodes at the bottom of the ramp. Player that wasn't killed in the car then goes up to the bridge alone and says, "Thanks for saving us."

I'd prefer they show actual gameplay even if it means seeing some bugs.

We know the game isn't finished yet. I think it's a good thing that they're willing to show something that's not polished and refined because they want people to see new features.
>>
>>388405330
Why don't they start off with a more modest project that focuses on getting the engine and core mechanics right, and then if that's successful they can build on it in sequels? Gotta walk before you can run and all that.

To be entirely honest it wasn't just some autist; if you want to do a paragraph on reddit you actually have to line break twice, so there's some truth at play.
Someone who uses reddit a lot could conceivably space their post like

this,
while someone who hasn't used it would remember they only need to press it once, and would space like
this

I've shitposted on reddit enough to know this, judge me I guess.

Nah, breaks between paragraphs isn't the real sign, since that's just basic visual spacing used in general typing. It also looks better in the smaller reply box before the actual post lengthens the lines and makes all those paragraphs one line.

The real indication is a break right after the post number quote, since you have to add a full paragraph break after a quote in order to stop the quote coding from engulfing your entire post.

They could've released something playable without all the fuzz just like Elite did but no. 5 years in development and I get the feeling the Cry Engine slowed them down quite a bit.

With the teams that they have they might've completed the game already with an In-House engine.

>Main characters attempt to board the ship with their car via ramp when the car fails and falls through the ramp. "Third times the charm" is said as the car then literally explodes at the bottom of the ramp.

I've noticed a lot of problems relating to getting back into ships. You can tell they designed and tested these ships first on space stations before even thinking about planets. The land needs to be perfectly level for it to work, which is never gonna happen on planets. In another demo, a player on foot couldn't get back into the ship because the ground wasn't level enough. So the pilot had to fly up and land elsewhere. Why can't they just use short cuts for this?

Make it so that getting onto the ship is a command instead of real time action. Player control is taken away and you play out an animation of getting back onto the ramp. If it just works people will forgive a bit of clipping.

Alternatively, redesign your fucking ramps. This is the future. They would face this exact same problem in the real world. Why are they using simple metal ramps? Get creative. How bout this. The ramp top is metal, but the bottom layer is an expanding futuristic substance that conforms to the landmass. Extend the ramp so that they are not at such a sharp angle.

Man, I genuinely don't mind Amazon getting in on the whole gaming industry (Since it'll give Steam a competition) but the fact that they had to work with Scam Citizen as among their first project is dumb as fuck.

Cry Engine is definitely pretty but the only ones who can use it at all is Crytek themselves. Not to mention, SC's plan was to make an expansive world why the fuck would you think of making it graphic intensive? That's putting a rocket on a tricycle.
>>
>>388412429
I don't even know why that is.
There are rumors that Crytek doesn't give support to the engine like other do and if I'm not mistaken, they even struggled to pay their own employee at some point.

The Time Splitters Rewind team recently said something along the line of "Working in UE4 is easier, we would've completed the game by now if it wasn't for the Cry Engine"

So I don't have any idea of what's going on with that engine.

Molyneux was a blatant liar, he was exposed in an interview. The features he was talking about on interviews were not even considered by the devs, he was coming up with them on the spot.

This is different, they do try to make what they promised, but clearly they are failing.

I guess the difference in the end will be that Molyneux actually released the games, just totally different to what he was talking about.
>>
It feels like SC forgot that its a game about spaceships. The way they move and interact with objects in space and on the ground reminds me of weightless gmod props, to which you would strap overpowered thrusters. The combat also boils down to "use the ridiculous strafe speed and pray that you have more dps ". It really bothers me that they keep adding complicated things onto an unfinished game core.

As someone who's not really interested in Star Citizen, but a game developer at an AAA company, I'd say I'm impressed with all their implementation of features. Just the docking of that car in the ship and all being in multiplayer is quite impressing.
Now, it's extremely unpolished and need many many years of polishing this. Problem is that this is probably only 40% of the features planned for only this gameplay(my guess).
I'd say we're looking at another 5-10 years of development before release.
They're inventing and taking things to new heights no doubt, but by the time they're finished, the tech will have evolved and other games will have caught up. Perhaps not at this scope but similar and more contained gameplay.

Wasn't there a game that did exactly this a few years back? Had amazing visual but took a long time and when released, looked like every other game. Can't remember the name though.

Not every planet is as visually interesting as the next. Sometimes it takes a bit of searching to get the right geography/atmosphere combo to make it look nice.
Most nice views are found from space, just keep looking around for cool stuff and you'll bump into nice planets.
Also, solar system planets are just flat textures without the optional texture pack so that might be your problem.

Yeah, I agree. Other games have already caught up with Star Citizen. Maybe not scope wise, but visually, very much so. So they're already behind and all they got to impress with is the multiplayer interaction over what seems a huge huge persistent world. To me that's what I'm most impressed with to be honest. Just making all of that work is a lot of work. And despite the obvious bugs and flaws, they've come a long way. I just wished they would own up to them having serious bugs and I would much rather them look at the players being crushed by that huge ship and laugh about it. Looking away trying to hide it is just embarrassing.

I don't really grind for cash anymore but last I heard passenger missions and data point scannning in warzones were the most profitable things to do. There's one system in particular that everyone is in for the data point scanning because the station and the scan point are only a few minutes apart so people are making 10s of millions per hour easy and you get to grind rank too but I don't remember the name. Naturally FD are planning to nerf this with the next patch.

I don't know if their work impresses me so much when I know they don't have a clear plan. Warframe is a game with much less scope and money poured into it, but it's a perfect example of the feature creep problem and lack of self awareness going on in Star Citizen. Warframe has a slew of features that have languished in unfixed, unbalanced obscurity for ages. All the while they announce new Open World levels coming up. Pets have received no real attention, despite continually adding more. Dark Sectors, the PVP territory control aspect, have been locked down and inaccessible outside of their PVE areas for over a year. They quietly dropped the aspect of it being a Beta quite awhile ago too. The game won't ever collapse under its own weight, but it's still hampered by it, mechanics-wise. The weapon system is a shitshow of ludicrous numbers, all the more fucked from balancing because people have been pouring money into this game for years, and tossing out things they spent money on would start a riot. Star Citizen has it a bit easier there, but it's also clear money has fucked it by making them think they can do whatever they want, game design-wise. They get stuck in eddies of minutia that might seem easier to do right now than their long term game goals but just distract them in the end. Fucking, buy our overpriced webcam to use out dumb facial motion capture feature? Who's the retard that approved that?

One thing Warframe does have going for it, though, is its visual design. Not exactly quality, it's pretty shiny for a F2P game anyway, but the actual design of everything. Having someone like Keith Thompson do the concept art was an inspired choice, and lends the game a particular flavor that makes it recognizable despite a bunch of factions with distinct themes running around. Star Citizen lacks that. It falls into the generic "Modern Future Realism" most big budget things go for these days. That's more what I was getting at, really. It looks indistinct.

You just want to think it came from /pol/ because you have gotten too deep into board culture and want to think boards like /v/, /tv/ and /a/ are sacrosanct places of intellectual superiority "fending off the /pol/ menace" because you have absolutely nothing else worth preserving in your hollow, worthless existence.

Nope, Rogue System went with "dcs in space" route for autism. You do need a 5+ minute start up time clicking around the cockpit to turn your space ship on. That excludes waiting a minute plus total from sending and receiving control tower communications, which you have to set up your radio frequency channels manually as well.
And that's doing it "speedrun" style breaking checklist regulations.

That's literally part of the problem though. They used CryEngine in order to make it look good and sell it as a Kickstarter to gullible idiots, but now it's taking so much longer because on top of scope creep they're struggling against an engine which is infamous for having shitty netcode.

oh wow

I'm about $2000 into this game and not only do I feel good backing what is an absolute breakthrough in videogames and a literally revolutionary project, but I consider this a great financial investment as well.

The ships I bought will be collectors items and worth much more than I paid. So not only did I back the best videogame ever and will have tons of fun but the game will literally help pay for my house one day.

I feel like its the best deal evee
>>
At this point I'm no longer surprised.

Money spent is not an indicator of quality, nor a guarantee of stability.

The Zumwalt class destroyer costs $2.6 Billion per ship, and the USS Zumwalt still broke down going through the Panama Canal with seawater leaking into the propulsion system and fucking up the screws, and then it had to be towed the rest of the way through the Canal by tugboats, and they still don't know what exactly happened to cause the screws to fail meaning it could possibly happen again.

What made them think this was acceptable to show? Why didn't they bother playtesting the bits they were going to showcase before presenting it to the world and showing that despite five years of development and millions of dollars, the game still looks and plays like a very, very early alpha? Why does no one realize that Star Citizen as described by its developers is straight up impossible with current technology and it'll be at least another five years before it's even remotely feasible?

Not chasing retarded MP gives it the edge. No one even wanted or cared about MP when Fatass flew his hornet in his Kickstarter video, they wanted Wing Commander on Cry Engine with maybe some of the new space game ideas that came about since that series into today. All this PU MP shit did was drag this project out into 2020, where life size enter-able vehicles with real time escape & entry planetary exploration will be meat and potatoes for nearly every space game anyway.
And we can be sure several of them will pull out some MP of their own as well.

Extreme viewpoints always appeal to people with no sense of personal identity. A bunch of low confidence gamers who've never had to deal with hardship aside from the consequences of their underdeveloped social skills never had the ability to create their own sense of identity, which leaves them with a void, that gets easily filled with anything, and hateful opinions fit in that void VERY nicely because they not only give them an identity, they let them pin the blame of all their life's problems on someone else.

Can't the camera director guy see there is a bug on screen and he should probably switch screens ? Why does Chris has to stop midway explaining something to tell him that ? Why don't they have two sets of servers+clients running at the same time and switch over without hassle if something breaks on first set ? Only the russian captain sounded professional and role played without unnecessary cringy bullshit, did none test the roleplay ability of the players beforehand ? Does Chris really need to direct the cameras, talk presentations and direct the gameplay at the same time ? Can't he just do one single thing but do it good instead, and have others dedicated to the other roles ? Overall the whole presentation looked rather hastily prepared and unprofessional. Looked even more unprofessional than the last year, one would think they would learn from their mistakes. They way you present your product is sometimes more important than the product it self.

Really though, that's pretty appalling. I'm imagining my own software team telling our sales guys that we would be late on a release by a quarter, and it would not be pleasant for anyone. We'd probably get removed from the project on the spot, they'd bring in a new team of devs, and our careers within the company would be fucked unless there was some REALLY good reason why it was out of our control that the project fell behind so much. My team lead would probably get actually fired. Our expectations are to get our stuff ready for delivery slightly before deadlines, so seeing all these gaming companies constantly shifting release dates back is kind of disgusting to me. There's a serious lack of good engineering practices at these companies, either in the implementation or management side. I don't care what happens, but your scope shouldn't be creeping to the point that you miss your project milestones by years or even a decade. The gaming industry is a fucking joke.

I have no clue why anyone would trust Chris Roberts after the shit show that was Freelancer.

>Chris announces a revolutionary new game called Freelancer in 1999.

>Game finally releases in 2004 with the majority of Chris's promised features missing.

I can admire the ambition but I can also recognize when they are just stuck in a cycle of feature creep and I also lost a lot of respect for this game and the devs with the whole fucking paying for virtual spaceships thing and other shit that happened.

How fucking greedy can you get, $150 million is not enough for their "ambition" and they need players to spend more and more on virtual fucking spaceships, many of which aren't even ready.

They got the cash shops and greedy jewish shit figured out before the base game, thats no longer the kind of ambition I admire. I kinda just want to see it all come apart now and the resulting shitstorm as a lesson in hubris and greed, like with No Mans Sky.

No? Game engines don't have netcode. They are tools written in C+. You buy a middleware to handle the multiplayer in CryEngine and UE. Or try one of the free ones on the engine marketplace.

Yeah man, thank god the cyanide chambers with WOODEN DOORS allowed so many to survive and tell their tales. Otherwise we would have never known about it. I mean I've never heard of anyone surviving from that much cyanide, but jews are the chosen people. So if anyone can survive 30 minutes of cyanide exclusive exposure, they can.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xLkKCZ_x-9Y

You strip people down and burn their clothes when you encamp them for labor. You also delouse them. Both are to prevent typhus from spreading and killing everyone so you can get some decent labor out of them for the war effort. That is why there are huge piles of clothes and luggage at the delousing chambers at Auschwitz.

It honestly amazes and saddens me that /v/ can be this immature and nitpicky about something like this. Star Citizen isn't a scam, and it's not an average "Video game" its an experience. The people who are backing it aren't gamers, they don't want a video game to play in for a week or two, they want a real life-like simulated VR world of outer space that they can live in and visit at any given time. An escape away from reality, something we (We meaning anyone over the age of 28 here) have dreamed of since the 1980's and before. This is exactly that. Virtual fucking Reality.. That is an amazing and impressive feat in technology that will push the boundries of VR based tech to higher levels for the common man. Meanwhile, as usual /v/ is stuck in its "HAHA LOOK AT THE BUGGY GAME, LOL" teenage phase. Mark my words, you're going to be blown away by what this game does to the industry, its going to revolutionize world building more than even Morrowind.
>>
>>388428938
this is so accurate.
>>
>>388444952
Or you can spend exactly $0 learning to lucid dream and have a superior experience than Star Citizen would ever provide, probably in a far shorter time than anything Star Citizen promises, VR even compared to lucid dreaming is just a waste of money as well, the only way you will get that ideal escape from reality is through lucid dreaming, anything else is just inferior, but necessary sometimes like multiplayer games, or games with stories you enjoy, etc.
>>
>>388445116

>Just learn to lucid dream
Yeah sure I'll just lucid dream up some fucking friends and PvP
And while I'm at it, lucid dream up something to fucking do while I'm wide awake and bored.

>>
>>388428938

That actually sounds a hell of a lot like what happened to Wurm Online too, developer favouritism to the point it kills the game.
>>
>>388445219
Like I said if you want multiplayer experiences then lucid dreaming won't provide that but for everything else its superior in every way. Theres your tradeoff.

You could probably do something like playing with "bots" other DC's and they would probably still be more fun to play with than any game with bots now. The limit is your imagination and level of control basically.

>>388412971

http://spaceengine.org/news/blog180817/

His blog posts are fantastic reads. Also, the simulation has been updated up from the Virgo Supercluster to the Laniakea Supercluster (which is now composed of the Virgo Supercluster, Hydra-Centaurus Supercluster (which contains the Great Attractor, Antlia Wall, Centaurus Supercluster), Pavo-Indus Supercluster, and the Southern Supercluster (which is composed of Formax Cluster, and Dorado/Eradinus Clouds)).

All in all around 100,000 galaxies. Though by increasing the galaxy magnitudes, you can technically force the simulation engine to generate more galaxies than existing--because it assumes that there are more galaxies present and our current instrumentation is unable to detect the infrared light form them due to their distance and age.
