When they made the second one and all the newfags, underages and mainstream game players flooded in. Also, number 2's online focus rather than making a decent single player experience ruined it. Online was only ever meant to be a feature, not the main part of the game.

I still think they're good games, but I don't defend them and I really don't discuss then either. I guess good isn't necessarily what I mean. They're good at what they do. They don't have to change the formula. They're like Sickdark CoD.

How is it shit? I havent played BB but DaS3 is basically the same as DeS. The gameplay is literally the same except you obviously have a different map to explore, weapons got changed in multiple ways..

If anything the souls series is the same as call of duty except they didnt release a new game every year. The newest cod is still cod4 just reskinned and tweaked slightly, it doesnt make cod a bad game exactly, its just the practice which is shit. Thankfully they arent making anymore souls games, or sadly, depending on your view because at the end of the day they really were just rehashes but they were spread out enough that nobody minded.

memes aside, it really made an impact even if not worldchanging. First DaS made it a lot more noticable how shit most rpg/adventure games' combat is.

People weren't shitting on Skyrim, AC or TW's combat nearly as hard before DaS showed how much more engaging it easily could have been. Now the devs are actually putting a bit more effort into combat, as seen with TW3 or the upcoming AC.

It also made a good example of what a well/decently designed and satisfying challenge is.

souls is a creative franchise. Even if most of the mechanics stay the same, the games are loaded with different ideas for characters, enemies, locations etc. which are not just diverse in the series but neverseen in the medium. Cod has 14 games, 10 of which have the same copy pasted modern, realistic setting, characters etc. and doesn't offer anything in terms of creativity.

The online in DaS1 was shite. You only had reason to unhollow if you wanted to effectively turn multiplayer mode on or kindle bonfires, but otherwise there is no disadvantage to not being human. You even conserve soft humanity and retain the discovery boost they provide, can still see player messages, lose no HP and can't get invaded at all. There's no defending this.
