What I thought was a really nice touch to the whole thing was that weed amplifies negative emotions when you take it, and Franklin's dialogue when getting high never changes no matter how much you progress through the game, even when other dialogue does. So it implies that there's never been a time where Franklin doesn't feel that way about himself, no matter how successful he becomes.

Well Lamar basically says that the "mercurial motherfucker" persona Franklin built up is just that, a front, and also he claims that Franklin is a "moody motherfucker" when he first gives Franklin the Bagger, plus it's not just when he's high where you see he's depressed, you see it in his combat dialogue too
