I keep trying to get into this game and for some reason it never clicks for me.

I think part of it is that it's very unintuitive for someone like me who's usually a completionist/minmaxer. There are a lot of easily missable items and there's no clear indication on what different classes do, how best to utilize them for future classes (since, in-game, they don't even tell you future classes will be a thing, etc.) There are also a lot of missable things, like an early quest to rescue your lady friend which is behind two ridiculously powerful bandits for the point in the game you're at.

Apparently if you leave to try and come back when you're strong enough, the quest will fail. Others have said that the area beyond isn't nearly as hard as those bandits so it's a weird fucking gate to put there for new players.

The real reason is that there's a finish line to the game. The endgame dungeon isn't procedural, gear isn't randomized, and there's no enemy encounter that's absurdly rare. Nor is there any multiplayer.

Most people who have played DD have reached that finish line. There's nothing more to talk about except for what's been discussed dozens of times over.

There is no objective best. Fighter and Warrior are great for basically any adventure, but they can get boring.
Magic is generally underpowered and never required, but the best magic is super fucking sweet to pull off.
Strider and Assassin are the most fun and versatile. If you like Souls, the rolling in DD is good.
Mystic Knight and Magic Archer are the most unique, and have the most powerful combos in the game. Setting yourself on fire and then jumping on something is always fun too.

The trick isn't to come back "later". It's to go at night. At night the bandits retreat to their hideout and there are only wolves on that road.

I gave up on PSO2 some time ago, around th end of Episode 2. That's one thing that I chose Ship4, and thereby I did avoid Reddit furry trash, there were hardly anbody to play with if you didn't speak Nihongo.
The biggest problem however, was that there was no horizontal progression at all. Only the latest content was relevant at all times. Therefore, it's good that the game was packed with content in theory, but nobody ever played anything beside the latest emergency shit, because there was absolutely no reason to do anything else. I imagine they haven't done anything about this.

Yeah I don't really understand the idea of magic being underpowered. It's not as good as conq periapt blast arrows but demon periapt HFB comes pretty close.

Then there's the spells themselves. Like you say Gicel can oneshot firedrakes and condemned gorecyclops. Compared to the reds at least sorcerers are not underpowered at all. If you're playing a magick focused mystic knight you are actually playing the game wrong though.

I did a run like that once with two bloody knuckles (after my char was maxed that is). fighting the enemies in gransys went fine there werent really any problems and it was quite fun. bbi however is obviously tougher so you'll need periapts for some enemies just to deal damage. having a fist only character is more viable than one would think but not as viable as one would want.

Both are basically the Strider and the Fighter respectively, but with an extra does of FUCK YEAH! added. So, if you enjoyed using daggers and bows, go with the Magick Archer, but if you preferred wearing heavy armor and using Stinger on everything and everyone, but thought it'd be more fun if you had the option to summon a sphere that produced homing missiles when you struck it with an attack, go with Mystic Knight.

I played an Assassin (which has the worst magic stat growth of any class iirc) through most of the game and decided changed to Magick Archer on a whim. So, I leveled Mage and Sorcerer until I got all of their augments (and not a level more), set up my skills, and was able to be OP as fuck.
As long as you have good gear, stats aren't nearly as important as people make them out to be (especially since NG+ doesn't modify enemy health or damage).

Run past them. You can fight them if you know what you're doing though. Avoid the fighters/warriors and take out the idiots shooting arrows at you. Rez your pawns every now and again so they can distract the rest of the bandits. Then take out the bandits one by one, focusing on NOT DYING. Do not EVER assume that your attacks will stagger them, so be ready to escape a counter attack. Especially with the leaders of the bandit gang, because you'll probably die in two hits.

Just go at night time and they won't be there. Just sprint past or kill the wolves that replace them.

Those bandits are probably the hardest part of the game (and only because you encounter them at a very low level). Once you've bought some shit from Gran Soren (which is your main hub for 99% of the game) and leveled up a bit, they become a joke. Just avoid them for now, do Quina's quest in the woods, and continue to Gran Soren and I guarantee you'll only find maybe one or two more encounters in the main game that are in any way particularly difficult (until you hit bitterblack). Just make sure you pick good pawns and you'll be fine (for example, avoid Guardians, Pioneers, and Acquisitors)
