The games take place right after the books, with the first game starting right after the last book, with Geralt returning back alive, to everyone's shock as well, with his memory lost.
After that, it's all about forming new bonds, growing big and famous once more, and slowly getting tangled into political messes of various sorts + moving towards the legendary Wild Hunt.

tl;dr: No, it'd be idiotic to start with what is practically the "Return of the Jedi" of the series.

First game's gameplay (literally on the pic) will be a little clunky for millennials. But it's a good game nevertheless.

Second game is an odd one. I get why people don't appreciate it, but it has enough story to make you hate some important fags from the third game. That's a reason enough to play it.

Then there's the third one, of course. Enough said. Just play it.

TW1 is better than TW2. It doesn't rush you along and the environments and atmosphere was just much better. You want to explore every thing. In TW2, it seems like CDPR tried to make it a cinematic experience, the gameplay wasn't as smooth. I don't know about anyone else but I also preferred the combat in TW1 more. It felt very fluid and the different stances were nice to use. To me, TW3 is just TW2.5. A small improvement, but just small.

When TW1 was made there were no plans for a 3rd game.If you want for choices to transfer trough 3 games you better have the story of those 3 games mapped out from the start.

Try first, then try second, then third. Play in whatever order you like. They're all good games.

I played through Witcher 2 on the hardest non-permadeath difficulty. It sucked nonstop. Doors didn't work, there were small invisible barriers everywhere, combat was boring as shit, you were supposed to see in future to use potions, etc.

Don't get me started on the characters. Everyone was insufferable retard that couldn't be sympathized with. Geralt is supposed to be a pseudo-psycopath due to being a Witcher, and he still felt more emotional attachment to things than I felt was humanly possible.

The world was trying too hard to be dark and edgy, and didn't even do it well. Most situations you were in, there were better solutions that weren't actually allowed by the game. Most of the time you just wanted a "worse" solution, and kill everyone because they were such retards.

0/10, never again. Haven't even touched 3 yet because of this buyer's remorse.

Who else /skippingthesexscenes/? Was literally at the edge of dropping the Hunt after constant reminders of my shitty incel existence.

Play 1 but just on easy difficulty. The combat is rather clunky by todays standards. Explore and read every book. Potions do help a lot but on easy might not need them.

2 is a marked improvement, combat is more smooth but the world does seem smaller and the game overall feels shorter. Crafting is pointless, don't bother.

All of ot doesnt even matter in the end for 3, but playing 1 and 2 both set up the world and characters for you. Read the book too, before, during, or even after 2, but they definitely help to understand who the fuck is who.

Mass Effect was planned out as a trilogy and the jumps in technology between ME1 to ME3 are almost non existent where as TW1 to TW2 to TW3 boy oh boy there are some drastic changes in each version.

1 is plenty playable with the Full Combat Rebalance mod. I've honestly never played the game without it. But it's definitely playable, just require a little bit more work on your part to install some mods to improve your experience.

Console plebs can't wrap their head around this and will continually shit on 1 with sour grapes arguments ("the story isn't good anyway!"), all of which are wrong. The story in 1 is great and relevant to 2/3. Characters in 1 will come back in 2/3 and you will be glad you know their backstory from 1. It gives the game much needed depth since you encounter so many NPCs.

So, play all 3. In order. Mod 1 for a better gameplay experience.
