As someone who wasn't too enthused at first, I ended up loving the thing. The library is still a bit lacking, but it's ended up as the best console for indie multiplat releases due to the extra portability feature

It also helps that it has a gorgeous screen. I was playing Mania in bed last night and it looked fantastic. It's made going back to the 3DS screen hard (I never had a Vita but I imagine it would have the same effect, looks like it had a really nice screen)

the switch is already being sold at a very slim profit - a profit nonetheless, but a very slim one

Let me explain something to you, buddy...
Just because a dock costs $90 retail does not mean that $90 of the Switch MSRP is the cost of the dock.
Likewise, just because Joy-Con cost $80 retail does not mean they are $80 out of the Switch MSRP.
The dock costs maybe $20 to manufacture and package, the Joy-Con closer to $30. They retail them at much higher prices to make up for the thin margins on the Switch console.
Nintendo has said that they do NOT sell the Switch at a loss, which means that subtracting the manufacturing costs of the dock and joycon give you the price of the actual console, not subtracting the retail price.

This is ignoring the fact that integrating the Joy-Con into the device body doesn't completely negate the cost of it.

Nintendo could not sell a Mini Switch at $150 MSRP unless it was at a loss, which Nintendo never does. The Nvidia SoC and memory modules alone cost over $150 to manufacture, and making them a little weaker or cut down to save on cost would not save as much as you think (i.e it would still be over $100) then add on the LCD screen, L-ion battery, other components, integrated controllers, etc and you have at least $200 in cost.
