Assuming it isn't actually a scam like everyone seems to think, the biggest problem with SC's development is that they have no focus. Instead of fixing the shit that needs to be fixed, they just keep adding pointless features like the face tracking.
>>
>>388356949
Ship size shouldn't be an issue, mechanical stuff is usually cheap in polygons as you can replace a lot of details with normal maps.

>>
>>388357394
To be fair they have a ridiculous amount of money, and adding a team to work on other things like that isnt going to be effecting the core game development. They already have the team they need on the main game and throwing more bodies at it does nothing. They problem with SC is that they got way over their heads with all the new technologies they have to implement. The game engine had to essentially be rebuilt. All this meant they couldnt just hire any code monkeys either.
>>
>>388355325
but don't worry, the game isn't pay to win ;^)

Probably the worst "gamer" acting to date. I'm assuming the players fucked a bunch of things up because the speaker kept giving them stern queues. Facial recognition through webcam is previewed and looks laughably bad even without the garbage acting. Really great reaction images from those. Smooth sailing for a little while as players leave orbit. Crash happens and halts progress for like 10 minutes with the lead speaker going red in the face and aggressively issuing orders to try and salvage the presentation. Restart happens and the players have to start from the very beginning of the demo. This time however during a conversation with an npc, the camera keeps switching to the player character making some goofball clown face with aforementioned facerig for whatever reason. I can't even begin to explain how funny this was. Pure comedy. More crappy bugs pop up here and there and for some reason the improv gamer dialogue continues even though theyre just trying to get back to the point before the crash. Finally get back into space, no crashes this time. Space ship stutters like its on a rail line because I guess they haven't coded any sort of inertia. Players reach a crashed ship. Audio levels are all over the place and the banter persists. Gamer girl somehow gets fucking lost inside the crashed ship. Both players then eventually leave the crash site and are met with pirates I'm assuming. Space ships shoot at our main characters as they eventually start fighting back and call for back up. Back up arrives featuring the first new mega ship in the game. Mega ship takes about 5 minutes at about 5 inches per second to land and pick up our main characters. Main characters attempt to board the ship with their car via ramp when the car fails and falls through the ramp. "Third times the charm" is said as the car then literally explodes at the bottom of the ramp. Player that wasn't killed in the car then goes up to the bridge alone and says, "Thanks for saving us."

It's a scam precisely because theyre adding useless features. It creates the illusion of development and placate the donating cultists. I think Roberts and his closest circle realize full well, that what he promised to all these autists is impossible to implement in a persistent universe.

The proprietary cameras are a song they're giving it one last squeeze before they wrap this charade up. They'll release a touching "omg thanks for ur support u are the best fans ever :3" bullshit PR statement and then declare insolvency.

I haven't laughed as hard as I did at that demonstration in a long time. It was a great time. The speedrunning, the horrible facial mocap that looks like jaws just wiggling around (IN 60 FPS!) Everything about the buggy was great. How the ships would just slam into the surface and practically crash when they did. It got to the point that when the idris landed at the end, they made sure to turn the camera away in case it crash landed.

And of course, throughout the entire demo, whenever they were driving into new territory, they'd have the camera they were showing facing away to hide texture pop-in while the other person playing looked forward to give the all clear when they could face forward again.

It was perfect.

They started out reasonable, $40-$70 for the ships and some other in game doodads, the money also covered your preorder for the game and let you start with a bunch of in game currency.

Then it just kept dragging and the ships kept getting bigger and the pricetags have reached used car levels for some of the bigger ones.

Would anyone give a shit if they just had it so that when you're close enough it just pops your ship inside? In a previous showcase, the guy couldn't get back into the ship because of the terrain, so the pilot had to take off and land on a flatter surface. Like, just pop your guys in when you're close enough.

not likely, but hey, just sayin. on the flip side, it could be a neat coffee table talking piece. ive been so tempted to buy some obvious failures just to kinda, have them. like, i want an ouya in my living room just so that eventually, someone goes "is that a fucking ouya?"

I highly doubt that their other games are draining ED funding, Planet Coaster has more active users and almost as many game sales as ED in half the time and their Jurassic World game is bankrolled by Universal.
ED is just reaching the end of its value to keep developing for at this point. For such a niche game, it will probably never go much farther than it already has unless they release a major update NMS style.
They could be planning such a thing but who knows anymore. When it comes to ED no one should be holding their breath at this point.

Actually its more like they have to wait for the code monkeys to rig up all their various subsystems to get their basic functionality online and replace the placeholder stuff they stapled onto it. Then they stick them all together and they run into even more problems.

In the meantime they have some other team stuff more things onto the base and cause even more problems in the downtime they're waiting for the major things to be finished.

Iv thought about this quite a bit and honestly its probably because every time someone makes a space game its either

1. A space shooter only (which could just be a normal ground based shooter but with a gimmick)
or
2. A 4x space game with combat, trading, exploration, ect ect ect

The problem with the second point is its too fucking much content. You could make a really fun and interesting game just about space mining, or space ship combat, or space exploration. You dont fucking have to do EVERYTHING all the time like these developers do.

Its a core reason why people wanted NMS to succeed so much. It was going to just focus on space exploration of the unknown. Obviously it failed because they didn't offer what they promised but that doesn't change the fact that a space game that focuses on one aspect of space is better than one that tries to do it all.
>>
>>388387723
Its been deemed a failure but the sane fans, but the sane fans are not vocal on any of the communities for Star Citizen, as they are all filled with an insane cult. I don't even tell people that I backed SC's kickstarter, I don't want to be labeled as some cultist furry fuck.

If it ever actually does come out and looks to actually be a decent, functional game and has actual gameplay I'll buy it that very instant. But I'm not dumb enough to spend my money on the promise of something later, especially when it comes to modern video games where leaving half the game on the cutting room floor is the industry standard, and especially not a game promising the ambitious shit this game did. Anyone who spends money on something that is not right there and functional in the game in front of them right now in this industry is a complete fucking idiot who deserves to be scammed.

The problem with space sims is the same problem with flight sims: they're inherently boring. The game it's just you moving inside a big open space, be the sky or space, shooting at red dots in the screen.
Even if Star Citizen wasn't bloated with features, focusing only on the starship part, it would get boring fast.

>but Ace Combat
The Ace Combat games work because they're heavily scripted supported by cheesy / melodramatic writing, and even then the games are just chasing green dots until they become red dots and then press circle twice.

>The problem with the second point is its too fucking much content.
That's the thing. It's not.
Mechanically, what you're describing is no different from what happens in literally every MMO since fucking Runescape. The only difference is that you move in three dimensions.
Mining space rocks from your space ship with a space drill and taking it to the space city to sell to space players is no different from going to the mines and using your pickaxe, it just has a different coat of paint.

Biggest problems were the noname gamers/actors used to play it, they fallowed a script no matter what with complete lack of improvisation or any real charisma or banter, they would say "we" "us" when they stood alone since otehrs dies but were supposed to survive and shit like that. It's semi-decent if you enjoy exploration games and the developers (apart from not admitting they fucked up) are constantly working to improve it, which is always a good thing regardless of how much you want to hate them. Something similar happened to Orion: Prelude, it was some indie MP game that was garbage on release but the devs worked had and it turned out pretty fun.
>>
>>388386625
Not really. People only want drama, so the ones that fail get known because you get threads like this and Crowbat videos. Respectable Kickstarters have their success, gets wrapped up and the only people who were interested (ie, the backers) get their product and all's good at the end of the day.
>>
>>388400459
>You do know that the content they show in these events are heavily scripted right? And even then they rushed just so they can show something.
Dont care if its scripted or not, but they did show all they promised.
Seamless drop in and out multiplayer.
Planetary travel and procedural planets, large bases and custom made assets blended with those planets.
The new inventory system and new ui system, aslo render to texture for ingame display systems like tvs and holograms.
The rpg and quest system as well as fully working finished facial animation system.
The new volumetric fog tech, bit buggy in some spots but works.
And space combat,

What they really need to fix is the collision detection and tessellated planets, rendering of objects binded to animation bones, they tend to disappear probably getting culled or spaz out, and performance, now its seems like heavy gun effects and other fxs just fucking kill performance or drop the fps so low the game crashesh
