I made sure I completed this after I got the emeralds.

The only one where I had to put the thinking cap on was the one where there were like, half a dozen blues and a bunch of rings as the blue spheres were all in corners.

Bought it on steam. Really excited.

I admittedly haven't played it because I'm waiting for the PC release but this doesn't look hard at all. Blue Spheres still loops around, right? It seems you could get the eight rings in two sweeps.

My main problem with Mania's version of Blue Spheres is the bugs. Some of the "squares" don't convert to rings properly if you do them a certain way, and there's many stages where the count of remaining spheres and/or rings is lower than what actually is present.

The difficulty ranking on Sonic 1 + Knuckles blue sphere stages isn't based on reality. Basically how it works is that there are 128 different patterns of blue spheres and they combine them into 4 quadrants to make a whole level, each one has a difficulty ranking of 0, 1, 2, or 3 which the game will then sum up and then add 1 to come up with the difficulty of the whole stage.
Some difficulty 3 quadrants are deceptively hard, others are stupidly easy. There's really no rhyme or reason for how they assigned difficulties to each quadrant.

Any maps with the green and pink spheres? I like to compare it with the original.

No you can still do it with Tails but it's pretty inconvenient when you just want him to fly and you end up revving up the Peel Out.

Never played 3, but I was vaguely aware that minigame existed. It never looked fun. More like it can give you motion sickness.

I was surprised to see it in Mania. I guess some people have nostalgia for it, even though it seems like a bad system. I know it seems to be the main thing people complain about, if anything, from Mania.

That was the last one I had to beat.
I spent a solid hour restarting Green Hill over and over trying to do it right. After getting so close so many times, I said fuck it and went to bed.
Came back the next day and got it on my first try.

blue sphere is fun, I'm just kinda bummed that there's no proper bonus stages like in S3&K. All blue sphere does is give you unlockables in mania. In S3&K the bonus stages gave you powerups and extra lives, and they were all fun to play.

It's weird that blue spheres doesn't actually do anything outside of unlocking extras. I stopped bothering once I realized I got no lives or continues from it, and that the game just straight up doesn't have continues to begin with.

The game does have continues, but only in No Save mode. And you can only get them in the proper Special Stages.
