Over-marketed meme or a true game changer?
Discuss.
>>
>>388344747
If a game has tight links or requires precise inputs, sticks are better. Otherwise they don't matter.
>>
>>388344747
True game changer but ultimately unneeded.

If like most memelennials you've never played on an arcade, you can safely pass on it without really missing out on anything.
>>
I don't play fighting games but how the FUCK is that better than a normal keyboard?

The keys on the right are basically the same.

The joystick must require way more time to move than simple wasd (or you could remap w to f if you wanted instantaneous changing of all 4 directions).

Is there something I'm missing here?
>>
>>388344747
Probably one of the top 3 biggest gaming memes.
>>
>>388345152
You need a good keyboard not just a normal keyboard, otherwise you get ghosting issues that prevent you from doing complex inputs.
>>
>>388344747

a stick won't make you a better player, practice will. Just plug whatever you have at hand in the USB port and start practicing.
>>
>>388344747
Sticks aren't required. You can be good on pad.
However
Once you go sticks, you don't want to go back.

>he plays fighting games with a keyboard
>>
>>388345152
>normal keyboard
Shit actuator mechanism and, on cheaper keyboards, high probability of running into issues with simultaneous key presses, assuming you even find a keyboard with a decent enough layout for you to even consider not using a hoykey instead.

Other than that, I guess the concept is kind of similar to a hitbox, which most people agree do offer a substantial advantage over a normal controller.
>>
>>388344747
Depends on the game. A lot of fighting games are designed with fight sticks in mind so the input requirements will probably be easier to execute on the input device it was designed for.
>>
>>388345693
the dude said in his first line
>I don't play fighting games
>>
>>388345929
Don't bully the retarded frogposter.
>>
>>388345694
>hitbox

now that seems better than an ordinary fightstick in my opinion

the smash version looks like garbage to me though
>>
>>388344747

Most fighting games are designed with the sticks in mind, since hitting diagonals reliably on a standard gamepad is extremely difficult and standard fighting game motions require diagonals.

It's annoying though. I'd rather have the games not use hadoken/shoryuken motions than have to use a special controller or else I'm gimping myself.
>>
>>388346302
>hadoken/shoryuken motions

If you can't do these you might just be physically disabled, shit's not even hard to do.
>>
>>388346164
It depends on the game. It sucks for games with less lenient inputs like KoF in my opinion. And funnily enough, the smash version is broken as fuck because of the built in macros.

It's more for aesthetics than anything. Arcade games just feel right on a stick.
It's also nice to be used to the input method so you can find games you like at real arcades and already be used to playing them on stick.
>>
Does nothing for you although its much more fun to play with. Would never go back to pad.
>>
>brand new JLF is squeaky
kill me
>>
I use my arcade stick for everything 2D and on genesis
>>
Most important to this discussion:

Those who actively rail against fightsticks are people who suck at fighting games and likely bought one of these and got burned.

You don't need one, they're cool as hell though. And I personally find it easier to play older fighting games on one of these than on a pad, even though I didn't grow up playing in the arcades.
>>
>>388347706
open it up and apply vaseline to all the moving parts.

It's a true game changer. I use it for most games, not just fighting games. Lots of fun to customize too.

I'd love to buy a new stick and customize it but I just blew $600 on a candy cab
>>
>>388344747
I unironically think that using a gamepad for fighting games is worse than using a gamepad for fps.
>>
>>388344747
Game changer.

I have xboxhueg hands, so controllers/keyboards are a pain to use for precise fast inputs. So I bought a fight stick with wider spacing on the buttons and now I can actually do inputs competently.
>>
>>388346780
Have fun losing a round at EVO Grand Finals and possibly causing you to lose the entire tournament

I was going to get a Hori but I realized since I was going to mod almost everything why not just buy a cheap one and go from there. I went with a Mayflash F500 and gutted the entire thing. Replacing the art was just a bonus.
>>
>>388344747
an extra dick won't make you better at fightans
>>
>>388345152
I mean I imagine on a lighter input keyboard it's pretty good. I was playing skullgirls on my mechanical. But I had MX clears, so the travel distance was just a bit too much to comfortably hit the inputs. I still kinda suck shit with a fight stick but the only inputs I miss now are stick movements
>>
They're definitely not necessary, but using them can be fun. I have much more fun playing charge characters with them than with a pad, and any character that requires holding down multiple buttons is much easier.

I have one, it's a hori and it works great. I use it on more than just fighting games though like beat em ups and shmups. Overall I got one because I wanted a different experience than on pad, I dont think it would make someone better by itself, it's just what people are comfortable with. After years on pad, I would say that I could keep practicing on stick more than pad because my hands hurt less on stick

>>388349875
Yeah, I wanted to do that too since I'd be replacing all the buttons anyways to customize color. Felt like a waste to throw $150 away on a fancy stick with all these sanwa parts I'd just be replacing anyways.

Can you just buy plexis and art mod a mayflash right out of the box? I didn't think you could art mod them so that's why I never went through with it.
That looks great by the way, white color schemed with clear bubble tops are super pretty
>>
is there any place i can get a hitbox for cheap?

got any links to places to get a candy cab or general advise?

I have a good argument to use fight sticks. When i concentrate too much or get too nervous is start to grip the pad with too much strengh, and because of this i my hand start to hurt and i get tired really fast, but with a stick, i don't have this reflex, so i can play really long sessions without problems

It's good to see I'm not the only person who uses these for shmoops instead of fighting games
>>
>>388346780
No. Because if you're buying a fightstick it means you're serious enough about fighting games that you want autistically perfect inputs, so you need to spend a good amount of money for high quality. Not saying you need to spend a fortune, but anything sub $150 means you may as well just play on pad because that shit is going to break and start dropping inputs on you.

Unless you make a fightstick from scratch with premium parts to save money on assembly/brand, but that requires a higher tier of autism.
>>
>>388344747
they're fun to use, but way overpriced for what they are. people keep paying for them though, so there's no need for them to lower the price.
>>
>>388356020
Is this a Jojo reference?

Anyone have experience with the Hori stick for the Switch? I'm thinking about buying a stick but I mostly play fightan on PC. I figure I may as well get this one since Hori's work on PC and I also have a Switch that I might end up getting that Blade Strangers game for.
