What game franchise has the best fans? Which one has the worst?

Remember when people use to think 2hu fans were the worst a fanbase could get? And now there are so many awful fanbases (see: jojo, love live, idolmaster, sonic, undertale, etc) that 2hu wouldn't even crack top 10 nowadays

Touhou is still pretty bad, but their issues are only the beginning.
The majority of Touhou "fans" don't actually enjoy the source material, and among those there are quite a few that don't even know it exists. The remainder are hardcore elitists that think Lunatic difficulty is peak shmup performance and refuse to acknowledge the fact that their series belongs to a much larger genre of games that greatly overshadow theirs.
Even so, that's only the tip of the iceberg. The shmup fanbase can largely be divided into three general sections; Touhou/doujin fans, arcade danmaku fans, and arcade retro fans. There are players who fall under multiple or all three categories, but even so, the amount of infighting is insane for a genre that's on its last fucking legs. Each playerbase enjoys shitting on each other as much as possible, often for no reason other than principle, and doesn't realize the harm they're doing by continuing the division of an already withering community.
