Seriouly the most interesting shit happens between/before the games.
If you actually take a look at the whole story, all TES games are post-apo shitty world after great civilizations have fallen.
They had a motherfucking space station (Battlespire) and magic version of the internet.
Meanwhile TES games are your usual fantasy shity with some weird magic and bits of Dwemer Tech added in.
