Am I the only person here who actually enjoyed Metroid NES? I thought it aged fine, the only real problem for me was the ending where you had to refill the tanks when you get killed in Tourian but other than that a totally enjoyable experience

Metroid NES is one of my all time favorites.

In all honesty, a remake of the original Metroid didn't need to do much, all it needed was recharge stations, a save function as opposed to passwords, and maybe a map feature. Zero Mission is one of my favorite Metroid games but you have to admit it lost a lot of the charm of the original.

Metroid Prime will be out by 2019, right?

I think I'm going to make it my goal one day to beat Metroid NES legitimately with no cheats. I'm a huge Metroidfag and I want to say that I've beaten every single game in the series. I still need to beat Hunters and I guess Federation Force though. Not really looking forward to that. Also Metroid Prime: Pinball if we're counting that one.

The good news about Samus Returns is that it's been 13 years since a 2D game and fans really want a 2D Metroid along with the game's advertisement being so good. The main thing I see the game having is the same issues as Zero Mission. Changed a little too much and loses the atmosphere and charm like with Zero Mission. I'm not saying Samus Returns won't be a good game but I probably will like the original over the remake like Zero Mission.

super metroid is the only one that doesn't adequately explain the return of ridley and kraid, after literally exploding in the original metroid

And then the Prime games make it more complicated by having Ridley be reborn as a cyborg, blown up again, get repaired and infused with phazon, explode AGAIN and then come back with no cyborg enhancements at all for Super.

I honestly hate how much emphasis the series put on Ridley over the years. He started as just a henchman for Mother Brain, then he became the leader of the Space Pirates, then he became the driving force of the plot of several games, then he became the literal murderer of Samus's parents, making him her eternal archnemesis, then he was retconned to being actually smarter than Mother Brain and possibly the leader of the entire operation from the start, and now it's odd to see a single Metroid game without him. He was just a purple dragon boss, why is he now the end-all-be-all of the franchise's villains? Give him a rest.
