I'd prefer Super Buu, but Kid Buu's definitely getting in over him. Super Buu would have some interesting play based on not only his standard moveset but also absorption. But since the story goes well into Super, I doubt they'd be willing to go with the time to craft a proper Super Buu. Kid Buu gives you similar moves (minus absorption stuff) on a faster, smaller body. Seems like a lock to me, and I wouldn't mind too much in the end.

Nappa and Vegeta wanted immortality to take on Freeza and avenge their race (slight retcon here on Vegeta's part.) Freeza wanted immortality so that he could continue his conquest and rule eternally. Dr. Gero initially started off trying to conquer the world, but his Z iteration has him just wanting revenge against Goku. #17/18 didn't care much for killing Goku and the others, they were just bored. Cell I'll give you, though it makes sense that he'd want to test his might given what he was comprised of. They're not all as homogenized as you suggest, even if they don't have the most profound motivations.

Gohan has small normals and is generally more defensive than Goku and Vegeta. He also kinda has the most generic set of supers (anti-air Kamehameha, Father-Son Kamehameha, and a stronger version of the latter). Mystic Gohan will be more popular probably.

This. I think the game is going to have more characters than most ArcSys games due to having a lot less individual moves per character.

Your average GG character has a dozen specials, a few command normals, an Instant Kill, etc. In DBFZ characters have less normals than GG, 2-4 specials, and 2-3 supers (with Frieza's 4 being an exception).

I'd wager that the effort put into a DBFZ character is ~60-70% of what it is to make an Xrd character, with the SSGSS Goku/Vegeta being only about 40% due to the reused assets.

Characters being able to do more than just "full screen beam" is a real breath of fresh air. They could do a lot more with the 3D fighters but they never take advantage of it beyond flying around everywhere. Super DBZ is the only other DBZ fighter I can think of where most of the characters are viable in-part because of the way they built their moveset.

Well the only one worth it would be Goku. Vegeta would have to be his Saiyan-Namek arcs version because he did nothing in base after that. Gohan would have to be either his child version or Ultimate. Base teen Gohan didn't do anything and adult, in any form, didn't either before he unlocked his potential (and even then most of Ultimate Gohan's moves are made up in vidya). Trunks did jackshit in base.
