GameStar reviewer Sascha Penzhorn described the game as "ugly", "unfinished", "low-quality", "counter-intuitive", "buggy", "terribly balanced", "lame", "broken", "lacking atmosphere", and "hostile to its users" while criticising the absence of voice acting in dialogues and the lack of a German translation. In summary, he stated that "Grimoire deserves no pity just because it's an indie game", awarding a score of 30/100. [11][12]

Rock, Paper, Shotgun writer Alec Meer posted an article covering his attempt to write a review, which he said failed due to the game's "grind, the desperately cumbersome user interface or the sound that makes me want to throw my speakers into the sea", its "timelost inaccessibility", and its lack of alt-tab support.[2] Due to the difficulty in taking screenshots, the article was partially illustrated with promotional images, and the game had to be restarted due to updates making savegames unusable. The article, while noting that Grimoire "successfully creates the illusion of an enormous world filled with mysteries and secrets", came to the conclusion that the core design elements of the game were "monstrously wrong-headed", "desperately cumbersone", "arduously clicky", "doggedly DOSian", "hideously drawn-out", "crazily tough", "hateful", and comparable to mental torture.[2]

LOL SAPES AMIRITE

In all seriousness Clive's insanity and sheer autism was amusing enough for a while but I feel like it's getting overdone now because it's clear the guy really is in fact legit crazy. He's not some huge corp fucking over something I care about, he's just one sad delusional autist who has sunk a ton of time into making his dream sperg, and hell he even got something shipped for real. Sure it's kind of terrible but it's still a productive activity, he isn't out there shooting up malls or whatever or even just shitposting 100% of the time, he did some actual work at some point. And I've seen far worse vidya from megacorps.

Dunno, in an age of f2p mobege shit everywhere time to move on from this fotm. Kicking the harmless spastic is bad sport at some point.
>>
>>388331184
Here this is a review of YOU:

Senior editor John Walker wrote a sidebar to the article, observing that some players who claimed to be enjoying Grimoire were being dishonest: "You’d imagine on receiving a game like Grimoire, such a small group of people would be spending their spare time gleefully devouring its 600 hours of joy, rather than policing the internet to berate anyone who doesn’t enjoy the game properly. It’s almost as if it’s not quite occupying their time…"[13]

>>
>>388331787
he expects anyone that isn't a ass-kisser sycophant and part of his personal clique to hate the game
>>
>>388332032
This. He's funny but this.
>>
the thing is, even when you take grimoire in the context of the old-school games that it's supposed to be an example of (your wizardries, might and magics, bard's tales, &c), it's still crap

if you put grimoire in a time machine and threw it on the shelves next to these games, it would be getting worse reviews than it is today, because no one would be giving it the benefit of the doubt for being "uncompromisingly old school" or whatever
>>
>>388331295
The guy is an entire salt mine all by himself
>>
>>388331041
It is a good question what makes RPGcodex reviews more amateur than polygon or IGN reviews.
>>
>>388332407
I don't know, I think it would get good reviews based on its sheer size.
>>
>>388332032
>feel bad
To be clear anon I definitely don't feel a single iota bad for him. He's a crazy person of the jackass variety. But while his level of autism and ability to actually ship something that can be concretely evaluated/mocked is unusual, being bad-crazy on the internet is not. Being an arrogant jackass developer isn't even unusual either. I'm not saying he deserves any sympathy just that it gets boring and merely being an arrogant douche on intarweb boards doesn't actually cause vidya any harm in the same way that corps do when they utterly gangrape some good franchise or whatever. If he'd scammed millions of dollary dingos out of some shekelstarter then that'd be more worthy but don't think he did, just some sad ass attempt that maybe his mom donated to.

He's out there enough that sure it was amusing for a bit as kind of a summer lul but I don't see how he has any real staying power. He released a new IP. It's derivative and a citadel of autism, and it's also not very good. He's being, well, himself about it.

samefag here, also come anon, "censor" gets tossed around way, WAY too easily here. The guy isn't writing legit legal threats to 4chan to punish us in this thread or fling around the DMCA everywhere or whatever, he's not admin of some major site. Him being a little bitch on his own private board or writing angry screeds about THE INJUSTICE OF WEAK SAPES doesn't rise to "trying to censor". Come back when/if he files a takedown against gamespot or sues somebody for "demataions and slandersz" or something, that'd be worth a some laughs.

Yeah, I seriously can't think of any "professional" game """""journalist""""" who would be able to do a good review of something like Wizardry these days. Games like that just don't fit into modern publishing timelines and standards at all. If anyone could give it at least a reasonable shake they seem like ok candidates.

>>
>>388332571
Here's how the whole thing went down: felipepepe released a review on RPGCodex, shitting on the game (lying about missing features that aren't missing) because he and Infinitron dislike Cleve. Then a German site and two other sites basically copied his review because why would game journalists actually try to play the game in 2017, then his review was removed from wikipedia (wikipedia editors are RPGWatch people who hate Codex and anything associated with it), and replaced with "professional" reviews that are his review restated in their words.

So basically now you have the "public opinion" that the game doesn't have a right click button and trogs can't be defeated (they're trivial if you cast one single spell during the battle), and all that shit.

It's basically like Gamergate.
>>
>>388333680

I'm not sure what I have to do with that, but ok? I'm more of the holy shit some of the rules there are retarded kind. Example - that whole editing by consensus thing. All it takes is one dumbfuck who disagrees and welp there goes all your work down the drain. A single neckbeard was responsible for the crucifixion article having all images of Jesus on the cross being replaced with Sailor Moon for almost a year. Try to fix this and whoops banned forever for editing an editwarred page.
Another thing was the reputable sources policy and the no original research rule. Where the subject of the article itself isn't considered reputable. If you want to write that Book A has Character X in it, the book itself isn't proof enough. Actually reading said book is original research. You have to find a review or a news article stating what you want to write or ding dong bannu.

Sorry about the derail there. This has been my yearly fuck Wikipedia rant. Carry on.
>>
>>388331193

It has some nice ideas and concepts but most of the game isnt player friendly

>>388337909

>>
Don't give this guy your money. There are multiple accounts of him slandering paying customers and insinuating that they pirated the game or stole keys. Also, when you run into bugs -- and you will, be prepared to walk on egg shells when asking him for help. Whatever you say will be filtered through his paranoid mind when he will perceive slights and ban you while threatening to revoke your key or accusing you of not paying. And that is before he goes on lengthy, continued tirades against you on RPGCodex. Does any of this sound like fun to you?
