It's good. Possibly the best FE on 3DS, though that's not saying much. Aesthetics are great, only flaws with the game are that it was a remake and not a reimagining. Elibe remakes would be fucking stellar if they continue in this manner.

I thought it was great but then again, I'm one of the three people who liked the original FE2 too so I'm biased.

Although being a fan of the original, I was extremely disappointed at the way the remake handled the final dungeon. In the original, you get messages of Celica's party being trapped in Duma's room and fighting for their lives and slowly losing HP whenever you enter a room. It was one of the most tense moments in any FE and I hate that they just dropped it.

From what I've seen:

Not really, no. People overrate the characters and story simply because of the backlash. The characters aren't bad but many of them are pretty bland, which the FE fanbase prefers to 'gimmicky' characters. The story is better but it's hardly perfect, as Celica's route should tell you.

Likewise I don't think the gameplay is that bad. Pretty similar to Awakening sure, but it isn't quite as bad as Awakening.

The game is just fucking boring to me. You can't completely break the game like Awakening or Birthright and have fun with it. Its not even difficult like Conquest or any of the previous games. There's also way too much time spent on a predictable story (which got Alm's characterization wrong, he's supposed to be way more ruthless) and not enough on the actual game since the maps take 5 -10 mins to complete that just consist of placing Alm/Celica and their respective strongest units in the danger zones and watching them rape everything. Also zero class variation kills any chance of replayability this game might had.

Echoes was surprisingly good. I didn't expect much going in, but I really enjoyed it. I suppose my two complaints would be that the maps are barren and the difficulty could be higher. Outside of Nuibaba's abode, Duma Tower, Duma Temple, the first Berkut fight, and a few others. I didn't really feel challenged.

General? Outside of /v/, the game mostly got a very warm reception and people were pretty happy with it as far as remakes are concerned, it had a lot of passion put into it due to personal connections the devs had to the original.

There were a shiton of characters with potential(Deen, Clair, Sonya, Matilda, Clive, Tobin,etc)but they were never fleshed out. The designs for the characters were great but that's it. Clair was good but Clarine and Maribelle are easily better than her. Deen has a badass design but damn shame there isn't enough supports in the game.

The art style was a welcome change, it reminds me more of the old style and I believe it fits the whole series tone much better than the Awakening/Fates one.
The music is good enough to make your hair stand. I remember reading about some jap comments who were rightfully complaining about the original game and the issues it had, yet everyone wanted to listen to the music again.

While I missed some of the original combat mechanics I wouldn't mind a mix between what they did in this game and the original combat. Nifty options that could make everything more interesting in the future, so I welcome them.
If anything I think they made the game too true to the original one, in part it was good, but the flaws were carried over and it hurt the remake as well. Still, many things from this could easily be carried over to future titles and I hope further games in the series expand upon what Echoes did right.

Does anyone know about sales or overal reception of the game?

I'll say this about Echoes and literally any dubbed game, good voice direction. Most of the p5 dub actors are in Echoes but in this game the actually sound good.
