I'm sick of this fucking meme. The game is filled with awful padding and forced collecting and the werehog stages are slow as fuck and don't focus nearly enough on actually interesting platforming. Yeah, it had a higher budget and looks pretty, but it still suffers from the same problems as basically every modern Sonic game before it.

First sonic game in a long ass time to finally get their level selection screen done fucking right.

Main levels- huge doorways with sidekicks next to them.
completely optional side missions- above everything else and out of the fucking way.
rival boss fights- up high with all all the side missions, but standing out enough so you won't miss them.

No noisy menu, or poorly constructed map, or searching for temple keys hidden by a bunch of pixar characters. It feels like a natural part of the game. The side missions feel like a secret you discover instead of something you can easily mistake for the next required part of the game. Getting the levels areas colored is a simple and effective reward for clearing all side missions.

It made such a huge difference for me. Breath of fucking fresh air after 10 years of nonsense.

Nah. Modern missions are uncontrollable garbage that eclipses at those insufferable boss-fights. The old sonic inspired ones are ranking between mediocre, bland and boring. And before you know it the developers bury you under a pile of awful mini-games staring all the characters the fans are hating since forever. If that's not enough bullshit for you then just you wait for the last boss and his eye cancer background design.

Well done developers for at least porting a Sonic 1 rom into this mess of game that pleases no one.

Unleashed was the high point of the series in 3D. This is a fact. It was the last time they tried to approach the game from a genuine plot and gameplay perspective. Generations takes the best parts of it, sure, but it doesn't feel as good in my opinion. It should have also been called Sonic & Knuckles: World Adventure.

Personally I'm glad I don't have to live with myself for having taste that is this shitty.

I'm not a sonicfag or anything. I only really played Sonic 1, 2, the advance series and Sonic Rush. Never played any of the 3D games.

Generations was probably my favorite sonic game. Both classic and new sonic segments were great. It also had a shitload of content with all the missions. Music was great and getting a plat was fun (fuck that finishing the final boss without getting hit trophy though)
