I prefer Gogo for the Colosseum, much more reliable, especially if you need to steal something (which is very often the case). Gogo is easily one of the most useful and versatile characters in the game, not really sure why you consider him bad (granted, at high levels, his lack of esper boosts holds him back, but I always play at lower levels to keep things interesting).

Relm has some good equips and the highest initial magic stat to compensate for her shit ability. I'll give you Cyan though, he's pretty mediocre given his need to charge attacks.

Literally two of the best party members in the game. Mog gets the moogle charm and access to lances, making him an excellent dragoon option, and dances are great in the WoB. Gau's access to Rafflesia and a few other really good rages makes him amazing, though his inability to be controlled after selecting a rage can still be annoying. And both of them have access to the Snow Scarf, the single best piece of armor in the game.

I'm not talking about stats first. Stats are second.

Animations are key. The reason why Monk is the best class for Balthier is that he has the fastest attacking animation with a pole. That's all it is. For reference, Balthier has the longest gun animation in the game. Making him a Machinist decreases your DPS significantly. In the time it takes him to make one gun attack, Basch has done 2.

The main reasons Vaan is good besides his all rounded stats is that he doesn't have any really noticeably slow animations for attacks.

Fran is also an oddity in this way. Her base stats don't really have her excel in anything but her animations for each weapon are actually really good. She doesn't have a really bad animation for anything at all making her effectively decent at all classes.

What makes Cait unique is that he's meant to be your mag/sum materia dump as he naturally has the highest HP/MP in the party except for Red.
What gives him a slight edge though is that Cait's weapons carry more materia slots than any other character in the game.

Not saying Lucca is useless, but Hypnowave doesn't actually do anything. So many enemies are immune to sleep that you're bound to just stop wasting your turn with it. So unless you wanted to look up a guide and see that the Golem Twins can be put to sleep, or that Mother Brain's monitors can be put to sleep even though you have every triple tech in the game by then to just easily kill them, it's useless.

Also what you get from his Personal depends on his luck, give him 2 Rabbit's Feet. Fighter still outclasses him by far in damage, hp, and absorb. Red Mage has comparable physical damage but with better spell slots. No need to even mention Black Belt, since in low level runs they'll suck but in runs where you hit high 30s or above, they'll be putting any Masamune user to shame. Poor Thief still just can't catch a break, not that it really matters since in the remakes you can have anything kill anything with enough temper stacking.

You abuse her by equipping a certain weapon, putting her at low hp, and casting death sentence. Then she starts doing ridiculous damage even at low levels. Yuffie can also do insane damage at very low levels, but that requires getting the Conformer from the Gelnika which is pretty out of the way, unlike Tifa's setup, and also much, much later.
