How would they even visually communicate to the player that they were looking at a Dyson Sphere? It would be hard to tell what you were looking at even if you weren't only viewing it through a half frozen porthole. It would just be a dimly lit perfect sphere from the outside and a well lit but nonetheless inscrutable skybox from the interior. In either case there would be no sense of scale.

What does that even mean? The star is gaining mass from nothing? Also is that a legit star and Dyson Sphere inside of a smaller planet sized space or is that a mini-star?
>>
>>388316824
In terms of their function and size? Not really, if we're talking the size of your typical star, Dyson Spheres are much more massive and are completely different than Halo arrays. Plus, a POE explosion was capable of disarming the entire installation, the ship Gordon was on wouldn't have done anything.

He was saying that's the closest you are going to get, and that's about as from from the average video game scale as a Dyson Sphere is from that.

you're overestimating what a dyson sphere really has to be
you could put a tidally locked solar panel in orbit around the sun and call that a dyson sphere
the hard part is finding a way to use the energy due to how far from earth it has to be

They send it inside the sphere. If they can figure out how to remotely activate a 2 way portal, they could send the moon inside the sphere and the sun would impact it. Depending on the size of the sun, that could very well cause the sun to collapse if it absorbed that much mass at one time.

I think the "paradox" can easily be solved thus:
• FTL travel/communication is impossible. Full stop. No amount of magical singularity technological progress can break the fundamental laws of physics.
• Even our most powerful EM waves become barely distinguishable from the surrounding cosmic noise some 100 ly from earth, which, in case you didn't know, really isn't all that much. Not that hard to believe other species' communications are subject to similar deterioration.

You create kugelblitzs and anti-matter from the energy at the sphere itself. Then put them inside forcefields (powered by controlled matter-antimatter annihilation) and send them off to places that require energy. You can also create FTL highways by laying down negative matter (created from the energy harvested) pathways for Alcubierre class warpships to travel through.
With the energy of a Sun at your hands FTL travel, (virtually) infinite energy and matter becomes realities.

Humanity has literally never been so peaceful than right now since we discovered that diplomacy is always more efficient than war, give us a few decades and you'll begin to see states merging into super states for convenience until we reach type one and become an united planetary civilization by a century or two .
Scientific advancement, Education level, and people not starving has also been going at an exponential rate since the 50s

I'm not saying your scenario is impossible just that mine is a likely one too and that always pains me to see people going "humanity is just a speck of dust in the milky way" when we still have potential.

Nigga the formation of superstates will mean nothing when the worlds most populated regions become uninhabitable due to desertification or being underwater. People want to live and they will fight for their right to live. There's no room because all other space is occupied by (you)? Your head is on the chopping block. It will be an unimaginable bloodbath. Not to mention the starvation resultant from shifting locations of ideal agriculture zones and the types of crops that will readily grow. All those people who were planting wheat? Shit out of luck, be prepared to start importing corn and sorghum to deal with large scale agriculture under tropical conditions.
And that's not even accounting for the possibility of needing to artificially seed the world's oceans with high temperature-resistant plankton and algae (which exist but aren't dominant in the ecosystem) to replace the ones that will rapidly die off from rising ocean temperatures and acidity levels. If their populations can't replenish fast enough on their own, we all suffocate because those organisms are responsible for 80% of the world's oxygen. And even then, the oceans will likely die off and become literally one giant green algae bloom.

Here is the second submission from the new Luminarium pack this image is part of a 3-4 part project based on the forerunners from the Halo games, this was inspired mostly from the new game Halowars which is awesome. It shows a dyson sphere type construct which is earthlike on the outside but very hostile as almost all the surface is ice, however inside is a lush utopia with its own artificial sun.
To the left you can even see one of the moons being mined for resources to build the huge thing, me thinks they will be needing some more moon.

While I agree that bounds don't actually exist and everything is essentially unified in existence, that isn't how "observation" works from a quantum mechanical standpoint.

The reason "observation" collapses wave functions when studying photons is because in order to observe them we have to fire a laser beam at them. Doing that affects how the wave function will collapse and as of right now, we don't have any better way of observing the phenomenon. Observation isn't literally "oh the particle changes itself when I look at it BECAUSE IT KNOWS I'M LOOKING SOMEHOW" and frankly it pisses me off that more people don't try and correct that. It makes people think they're more important than they are.

Yeah, it's a type of super-scale stellar object that totally covers up the parent star (and not in the 'direct', sense, in the 'distant fence' sense), where the interior is made up of solar panels.

'sphere' generally implies a solid structure (which is probably what HL3 was going for), but the most realistic idea is that it'd be made of a bunch of smaller structures that're a single object in the same way a city is a single object.

The Combine are a collection of species in a gigantic bureaucracy. Think of Earth as a one of thousands (if not millions) of mining operations that is only of minor note to anybody because they developed teleportation / portal technology that the Combine do not currently have (they can portal cross-dimension but not point-to-point in local space).

Civil Protection and most forces on Earth are made up of re-purposed humans and even "combine advisors" are nothing but a gigantic grub species with the mental imprint of important minds from conquered races. It's even more horrific because the mental imprints can be created from almost any organism and can be restored multiple times as needed so the minds of useful intelligences can be used throughout eternity.

They would just turn the entire dyson sphere into a gamma ray laser, incinerate the 0.000001% of the sphere you invaded the instant you set foot there, and then rebuild that section. That's the point. You can't win against a Type 2 civilization.

Wasn't Aperture a total failure aside from the Portal gun project though? Sure, they made an advanced AI system, but they only created one fully functional unit and a bunch of incredibly corrupted backup constructs. Even then, GLADOS went haywire the second she turned on, so you can't even really call that a success. Black Mesa was a much more successful laboratory.

Its far worse than that. Valve's design team has a very strange work philosophy in that the only people that work on a particular project are those who actually want to. That means that there was ZERO INTEREST in making HL3 a reality. We lost out on the game of the century because of a bunch of lazy neckbeards who'd rather design digital hats.

It's a technological landmark, a sign of power, and after that, a power station, it's all about appearance
