>Crash alert! The game suddenly crashed and the pilot was disconnected from thegame. Whoops. Another player then had to step in and take the controls of the ship and try and recover the demo. Roberts came up with a few suggestions to try and salvage the demo eventually suggesting they should “roll it from the start” and messaging down the mic “do not show the loading screen”. Roberts paced upand down the stage mumbling into his headset. Oh dear. We have to do it all over again, but thankfully without all the terrible dialogue between players.

No wonder why when you're trying to make like 3 games at once. Star citizen isn't just a space sim, it's also an fps and a base building survival game. Wouldn't it make way more sense to focus on developing the space sim part first, putting out the game and then adding the rest as free expansions?

it was amazing, it really shows that they aren't even close to finishing 3.0, they literally added some random NPCs gliitching the fuck out and any opportunity, showed the same intro mission but with cringy roleplayer so it doesn't look the same

the awful facial recognition, that for some reason is being given priority instead of developing the fucking game, 15 fps, a live crash, the Idris bug, that "space battle"

on top of that they have a retarded chick that doesn't know how to even play videogames, or follow simple instructions, well, she's an official playtester for them, so tremble

I'm really glad I didn't even spend a single cent in this fucking scam and last year I was about to buy one pack, boy I feel bad for people wasting 600$ in this shit

Roberts is just playing with people's dreams atm, I don't know why he's still claiming all the shit he claims when it's clearly showing that after 5 years none is done

I'd actually suggest for him Starpoint Gemini 2 with the dlc that recreates the entire first game with 2's engine. The first game had the best story by far, followed closely by 2. Warlords is agreed worst story overall by many, but the gameplay is leagues ahead.

>>388311207
regardless even if it was being done by a publisher it would take just as long, or would you rather have the publisher push them to be half done, nothing work and release an over hype game that doesn't even work.
>>
>>388312306
I'm gonna go ahead and guess they have no fucking clue what they're doing and no one has made a solid roadmap of features they should work on.
I mean they made some face tracking useless garbage when the game has some serious bugs like vehicles going through each other or items not being displayed when picked up.
>>
Am I the only one not liking the concept of the game? Everyone here is talking about the bugs but even if the game was 100% you'd still have the problem of larger groups. Imagine playing casually with friends and a clan of 20 comes out of the ass and deatroys everything you ever loved. It's like in Rust but at least in Rust it's easy to get stuff and nothing is permanent.

facial animation tied to VOIP has been done in the past. but they work by getting the input from the VOIP software and once that hits the server the server then turns that into movement on the character's mouth: see something like TFC or GMod.

this is just fucking dumb though. suddenly you now have to get this webcam data to the server, PLUS the VOIP data, and there will be no way in which these two pieces of data can sync up properly, the VOIP data is likely to take longer to reach the server and you will basically have a face that is articulating words that haven't even reached the server.

and wouldn't it be better for RP if you actually had a fucking game to RP in instead of putting in this fucking useless shit?

Their entire approach to networking is
>we'll fix it later
A 3-man team is assigned to actually make the game an MMO. The interview with the lead was just sad, the man was handed an impossible job and told to just fix it. He's salvaging shit afterwards when he should have been in a lead position rivaling Chris himself on the design process, but instead he's the maintenance-man for a building that's already leaning sideways. Meanwhile 60 other developers keep producing shit that's un-networked and shipping it to his 3-man team for fixing.

>okay buy our product now (please)
actually when you go on the website it seems like the game is up and running, can even pay for it.
People are already playing and stuff even though it's alpha I suppose.

So they shouldn't be worried about 3.0 not coming out anytime soon? They have no obligation or anything?

I'm a bit confused here.
>>
They're falling into all the cliches of bad development. I swear, everyone should be made to read Masters of Doom, specifically the section that covers Ion Storm and Daikatana. Not saying all the Daikatana problems apply to Star Citizen, but many of them do.

Games should be made in cheap, boring offices, probably in an industry area. Programming and engines are your #1 priority as your entire game is built on it, and you should get this in order before you even think of making games. You need an experienced team to make games, while adding a steady trickle of new kids to train. Then follow a nice KISS strategy of making a game. At some point for features, you gotta say no, and either put that in expansions or sequels.

>Ion Storm was founded on November 15, 1996 with its headquarters in Dallas. The company had signed a licensing deal with Eidos Interactive for six games and the founders planned to scoop up titles from other companies that were close to completion, finish them, and push them out quickly to bring in initial revenue.

>In a fashion similar to other dot com busts, the company spent lavishly on office decor and facilities for employees.[1] The corporate headquarters of Ion Storm were located in Suite 5400,[2] 22,000-square-foot (2,000 m2) of space in a penthouse suite on the 54th floor, the top floor, of the Chase Tower in Downtown Dallas. Ion Storm spent $2 million on the facility. Lisa Chadderdon of Fast Company said that the penthouse location was "unusual."[3] For the first ten years after the construction of the JPMorgan Chase Tower, the penthouse location had been unleased.[3]

>Russ Berger Design Group, a firm most known for its work in designing recording studios, was responsible for interior design of the headquarters. This included a ten-foot-wide company logo set into the terrazzo floor of the lobby and matching green elevator doors.[1] The headquarters included a "crash room," a dormitory facility with two beds, three couches, a VCR, a wide screen television, and two telephone booths. It also housed a gaming room with a ping-pong table and four arcade machines, a changing area, and a shower room. The headquarters included these facilities because many employees in the video game industry work long hours at a time.[3]

>This location proved somewhat problematic. A notable problem with the office was that the sun shone through the glass rooftop directly into the monitors of the employees, forcing them to cover their cubicles with black fabric.[4]

I don't know but the crytek engine, or whatever branch of it they are using now is complete trash for games like this. They had to waste money bringing on crytek employees themselves to try and fix this trainwreck.

All could have been avoided had they picked a good engine for the job, but Chris is either a jew who picked the best looking engine to sell his ships, or a retard who picked the best looking engine without any thought as to how it would work out.

I don't give a fuck because i haven't backed the game. I see it as "The others backed the game FOR ME".
Reading everything on their website, their blog, they're actually selling me a dream. Maybe too much even, they're too ambitious. Just.. if you are not a big fans of this game and just watch it occasionally without digging further, you'd think, "oh great, 100 systems with 3-4 planets with procedurally generated thing, cool" but if anyone has dug out on their blog, they actually have made lore for each of their planets, described each locations in precise details, building, spaceport location, everyfuckingthing. This is an extremely ambitious project. And not only that, there's the moon too. And there's even planets that you can't even access because it's too toxic. AND they want to make archeology a real thing in this game, for example there is one planets named Hades IV. In the lore, there's an ancient race/civilisations that became extinct. This planets was apparently home to this civilisations. and this planets.. is a planet splits in half due to some strange circumstance. Ancient destroying weapon? Whatever it is, it's up to the player to discovers it.
And there's more of this kind of shit!

So, i hope this game will be real. But i'm sure it's not going to be, so i'm just enjoying whatever eyecandy they're making atm.

I find the direction of development SC has taken has become spread waayy too thinly. i'd think it better if they tried to focus on completing 3.0 and then refining it before moving onto more ships and features. It feels as if Chris has ADHD and cannot let the development team focus on a single project for longer than a few months before coming up with some thing new to add into the game, like this trackIR type stuff. And as some other anons said, they seem to be trying to make a brand out of it at this point. I don't really see the need for all this fluff they keep trying to add to the game.

As someone who didnt pay for Star Citizen and didnt fallow through the drama.

I think he presentation wasnt so bad.
It showed a fully working multiplayer componenet
An rpg, quest and mocap actor system
A fully working star system and star travel system
An fps component and star fight component

It was sure as hell less buggy than any Bethesda game, but it still suffered from crazy online sync problems with object spazing out and going all over
We saw like 2 crashesh and some low framerate.
But in the end it looks like atypical beta version of an game to me.

Worst part to me were the 2 main actors used for the gameplay, they failed to improvise the script when scenes didnt play out right, the female would not know what to do when she was not able to fallow the other characters and there was 0 adlib to the whole thing with them just falling back onto the script if something failed no matter if it made sense or not
Im not sure why they just didnt get 2 youtube gamers to do this, while e3 fucked up over and over again hiring some fucking no names with game interest we have yet to see any company hire people like PewDiePie (White Pride) Felix or Jon(6 million more)Tronor the eternally buthurt Total Biscuit.
I know there is a huge controversy with popular youtube gamer supporting right wing views, but i dont think its a reason to ban them completely from any gaming events

Dunno man what you mean. But the livemocap thing is a really simple tech.
Its just 3 normal maps and 3 morph maps blended using the camera positions to track bone placemnt
This is not real time mocap no matter what they tell you or what it looks like, its just a very simple system that combines 3 prebaked animation sets in samart ways
Its basically has 0 performance impact for the animation, just eats up a memory budget to save up additional normal and morph maps

It uses the same tech to supplement the mocaped quest givers performance with face wrinkle, tension and relaxation detail

In the end its a very silly and simple tech that seem like a pointless addition

Not really, their netcode is just more than a decade old and so is their engine, that's why they have to slow the time during huge fights but it's entirely possible to do it nowadays if the lead designer doesn't go full retard with the features like roberts is doing.

It's no more impossible than what Mechwarrior Online or any other cry engine game that manages to have two dozen players in a game at any given time.

Star Citizen is a total clusterfuck of a project, but instancing isn't exactly a new concept, they were never planning on having thousands of players physically present in one are at the same time.

So let me get this straight:
This project received dozens of millions in funding, made even more with virtual model sales, was in 5 years of active development, and all they have to show for it is bugs, a couple moons and an incomplete planet?

Meanwhile, a shitty indie studio was able to create a procedurally generated universe which despite its flaws was constantly updated with new features and is now an almost ok game?

Wow.

Also why something like mining you have to wait a huge amount of time to get a huge amount of ore for no real reason, when you could just cycle shorter and get a precise amount of ore.

>>
the way they played the second part of that demo was suspicious. If the game was really a sandbox, why did they still do the same sted-step things to get to the planet? why go buy all the gear when the demo didn't need more than the armors? why were the actors still reciting some RP lines at some point? Or needed to meet at the same moment as the first demo?
More of that shit was obviously scripted than what they wanted people to know.

You also neglect that game coders back when EVE was made compared to now are a different beast. There's a reason EVE has a unique engine that works for what it set out to do, compared to how everyone just rents an engine these days and butchers it in the hope that it will work out for their specific needs.

I do find it interesting that EVE could be broken down to a mobile game these days, based on the design of the gameplay elements.

I've blown more $$ on "complete" games, so I dont mind supporting the ambitious project.

I think its good they are scaling down the planets. Also you all keep saying they need to "focus" but remember they've got designers and shit that they cant "reassign" to fix bugs, they only design shit. They cant keep hiring and firing people every time they want some ships and shit, so they constantly have those things in production.

I rather have the final release be mostly feature complete with fewer ships/planets than a ton of "content" with missing features/mechanics.

These first 5 years are likely the hardest part, once they progress to mostly just adding variations of existing things (planets, ships, guns) it will go much faster.

Im thinking release during 2019 or 2020, and people should only buy the cheapest packages to support them.

As a geologist, I will tell you straight up that's a shitty noise generator. It's a fucking sapce game so there is a level of disbelief but professionally it's fucking comical.

There is a bigger problem here though, this shows they are willing to use an algorithm to generate their shitty moons/planets as opposed to hand-craft them with expertly advice on how a planet should look. Again, it's a sci-fi fantasy so who fucking cares if it is accurate but this is boring as fuck. What are you going to do? Climb that mountain then climb the next one? Wooow, it's fucking nothing.

On top of that, look at some of our moons in our solar system. They can be really bland but even the most bland ones actually have unique features. Europa is just a ball of ice but it looks cool as fuck.

Star Citizen isn't the next NMS, it's fucking worse and the backers are so fucking blind and have fallen for the sunk cost fallacy that others in the industry now know they can take advantage of these retarded people.

>I only voted for this fascist leader, not my fault he killed thousands

You are as much to blame as the people spending tens of thousands of dollars on ships.

I'm not the one posting all these "HAHAHAH SCAM-CITIZEN BTFO", threads every year. Like I said, I even forgot that SC existed. Also I'm not really pissed because you're bashing SC in particular, but your attitude period. Regardless of the fact whether or SC will fail. Even if you are right, you are still an autistic faggot who cares way too much about something he pretends to hate.

What kind of an analogy is that? Do you also want to impeach drumpfy, you leftist idiot?

>Get online, some guy invites me to do a mission
>Find my way out onto the hanger, he tells me to get in his ship
>Go to interact with the ships ramp, it jumps away at warp speed, spinning into the station and exploding

What did I do wrong?

Well, you sorta have to use fractals to create planet-sized objects in videogames and elsewhere.
Huge man-made textures are out of the question.
>Europa is just a ball of ice but it looks cool as fuck.
Maybe for an hour if you actually stood on the surface. Then it gets as boring and bland as every other moon. Space is boring when nothing happens or when there's no aliens around.

Lots of countries get really small, 1-day snow events that this GIF doesn't show. This is just a neat GIF I found. I live in an area that gets snow maybe once every 1 year (or use to) We in the area are actually discussing using our snow frequency as a large piece of evidence for climate change in the local area since we use to get snow roughly once a year and now we may never get snow again, it's been over 4 years and we don't predict any this year either. Star Citizen has a higher chance of releasing than us getting snow

That's why it's ok to have some level of fantasy in it but looking at that screenshot, it's TOO boring. It's unrealistic AND it is boring so it isn't satisfying anybody.
