>>

Yes, in fact too well. For a 6 hour long easy as fuck game, fags consistently overrate it and claim it's better than it's sequels. Which it isn't.

3 without a doubt. The weapons in II are garbage, there are nearly no checkpoints, and most of the missions in the second half of the game are stupid cheap. 3 fixed most of these issues, the only "boring" part is the desert, but even that has enough gameplay tweaks to be more enjoyable than fucking Haven City in II.

The other two? lmao
>>
>>388303147
Replayed it just a month ago. Aside from the inverted camera and not being able to tilt it up or down, it's actually still a really fun game.

Solid mechanics, diverse set of levels, not too heavy on the collect-a-thon side. Maybe a bit too easy, but overall still a solid 8 hour romp if you go for 100%.

The sequels largely go against all the interesting ideas established in the first game. The open world with constant platform challenges was replaced with a barren, large city environment with nothing to do.

the sequels are in fact absolute garbage
>muh need to jump on the GTA train now

>>
>>388303986
Most games with 16:9 options added EXTRA screen estate for the 4:3 mode. The reason: so that playing in both modes shows you enough for the game to be beatable without problems.

As already mentioned, played it many times in widescreen mode, never had a problem.
>>
Since when do people hate Jak 3? I understand hating 2 because it tried to draw in the GTA crowd, and did that extremely poorly, but 3 got back on track pretty damn well.

Jak 3 is of course better than 2 (not a difficult thing to do), but still a piece of crap. And I'm saying that as someone, who bought all of those day 1 and I also bought the HD collection day 1.

The only good thing about Jak 3 is the twist ending, which I found quite a bit amusing.
>>
>>388304120
My biggest gripe with 2 and 3 is the added gunplay without any form of manual aiming or strafing. Also the over reliance on races and timed missions.

Every time the games throw in some platforming segments, I enjoy the fuck out of them them, but everything else feels just like tagged on filler.
>>
>>388304283

I hate open world and rail against them in every thread they are mentioned. I haven't bought of played an open world game in half a decade now.

Jak 2 is my favorite in the series. Jak 2 is one of the only games in existence that did open world right.

It's not even a true open world, it's just a large hub with some transports. The entirely of haven city is like the size of a single island from GTA3.

I'd say so. It'd be better with a proper strafe mode, but it's good as it is. And it just got better with each passing game, at least on the PS2.
>>
>>388304484

Yes.

R&C1 is still the second best game in the series, after R&C2.

>inb4 some udnerage little turd comes in thinking R&C1 is a third person shooter like it's sequels and not a pure platformer
>inb4 someone didn't main the wrench and thought the gimmick situational weapons were meant to be your main arsenal like they were in the sequels

>>388304640

>>
>>388304640

2 and 3 are heavily story related, you absolutely need to play 2 before 3 or it wont make sense. 1 only has a light story.
>>
>>388304640
Some of it gets explained but you should play 2 at least once or read a plot summary
>>
>>388304423
They should have simply never added guns.
What was the fricking point? (I know, Sony wanted to cash in on the GTA craze)
If I wanted to shoot things, I would have bought Ratchet & Clank (which I also did). If I wanted an actual GTA experience, I would have bought GTA (which I also did).

Jak 2+3 are jack of all trades, master of none.
Jak&Daxter was an old school style collectathon with tons of platforming. And it did that properly in a large open world, which was tons of fun. I played that one over and over. It also was light hearted, which was also great.

I mean they could have gone full mental and added blood and gore on top. But nope.

I can't even remember if Jak 2+3 were actually 60 fps.

What I however do remember is that Jak&Daxter was butter smooth 60 fps without tearing or drops (at least as far as I can remember).

I remember putting Jak 2 in and even noticing tearing right at the start of the game during the fricking intro (PAL here, just in case).

Oh and a game, that I was never able to play was Jak X.

Naughty Dog fucked up the game by having broken saved game code. It saved endlessly on various PS2 models, which made it impossible to play and it also broke memory cards because of that.

And they never fixed it. I even bought the Jak X Platinum release and it was also broken. At least I got a special Jak & Daxter DVD with it, which had all the cutscenes and was basically a 2 or 3 or I don't know movie of the whole trilogy.

That one should have been part of the HD collection.

>>388305520
Even for the NTSC release?
>>
>>388305323
>>388305363
60/30 hybrid, with occasional dip below the smaller number. The progressive scan more of their engine was a bit glitchy. I like it though, it gives the games unique AESTHETIC.
>>
>>388305839
The future PS4 remaster should fix these issues.
>>
>>388305839
Broken saved game code? Can you elaborate? I don't remember any problems with the save system.

>>
>>388305927
Sony pushed the release date a bit too soon, and the game had serious save bugs on most PS2 models (not fat if I am briefed properly). Reprints fix that, but it's impossible(?) to tell if you have a reprint or not. Platinum(with a SILVER disk in case) and Greatest Hits releases both have the patch.
>>
>>388305839
They have tearing in the PAL 60Hz modes, so I guess it's the same with the NTSC releases.

>>388305927
The game could get stuck autosaving and resetting the game would corrupt your memory card.

Fun times.
>>
>>388305927
The game auto-saved. And that ran endlessly. It never stopped. So at some point you had to power down the console, which then corrupted the memory card. For me it destroyed 2 or 3 memory cards. I then gave up on it.

Sure, I guess I could have played it non stop without ever powering down the console and beating it that way.

Not sure if there was an option to disable auto-save, but even saving manually had the same issue.

As I said it happened on just some PS2 models only. No idea if it was PAL exclusive.
I originally had an original fat PS2 PAL model. That one broke because of GTA games and was replaced by Sony for a new slim one. I still own that one. And at least that one had that issue.

My model is a PAL SCPH-7500.

That one on the other hand is able to play the MGS Special Missions disc. My original PS2 wasn't able to play that. The console kept on asking for the original MGS disc. Was a backward compatibility bug.

>>388305984
Mine had a new disc. Definitely. But the software wasn't fixed.
I personally never buy platinum releases. I had hopes that they fixed it, but nope. Sony support also didn't give a shit. They actually wanted to replace my console once more with the same model. Which made no sense, because every single other game worked fine. And it is actually a software bug. There is info about that on the web.
>>
>>388306139
>Reprints fix that
source?
I bought my platinum copy months after it going platinum. And it was a silver platinum disc, not an original one (I would have noticed) and it definitely was not fixed for me.

If there actually is a version out there, I would buy it once more. But I don't want to waste my money once more.
>>
>>388306289
All Platinum releases are silver disks. If yours isn't silver, you were swindled.
>>
>>388306452
That's interesting. A friend of mine who lives in Europestan has a "Platinum" copy with a black disk, and no bug. It must be a reprint.

If you want to be 100% sure, get the US Greatest Hits release. Make sure your PS2 plays region 1 (through means and ways), and you will be good to go.
>>
>>388306452
I'm answering myself.

It seems probably someone from Sony removed the auto save bug from wikipedia. It's gone now, but you can still see it in an older revision:

https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Jak_X:_Combat_Racing&oldid=605751031#Autosave_Memory_Card_controversy

>The "Platinum" release of Jak X still has autosave errors.
>Neither SCEA nor Naughty Dog decided to take any responsibility for broken memory cards. SCEE's solution was to send a new memory card to victims of the glitch.

Fuck Sony

>confirming that they have fixed the bug and are offering exchanges to those users who were affected.
...
> the player can send in their copy of the game and memory card for a free copy of Jak X: Combat Racing, a new memory card, and a copy for free of a selection of SOCOM: Navy SEALs games.
burgers only
>>
>>388306624
>Make sure your PS2 plays region 1
Thanks, but I don't have a modded PS2.
And won't mod it just for this game.

It's really insane that they fixed it for NTSC, even sent out replacements, but didn't give a shit about PAL.
>>
>>388306706
As an European, you should know perfectly well that until this gen, we got shafted way more often than we should have when it comes to games and bugfixes.
>>
>>388306815
Can't remember that many issues.
PS2 games only got that buggy at the end of the PS2 generation. PS3 games in general are quite buggy.

We rather got shafted by not getting all sorts of games (or getting them way later, but well that was NTSC<->PAL), getting bad conversions (not 60 Hz) and also not getting progressive support etc.

Nintendo for example replaced discs for PAL too. See for example Super Paper Mario on Wii.

What comes to mind is for example burgers getting the final Duck Tales HD patch, which made it possible to skip cutscenes.

That one was never released here. And the game loves to freeze PS3s right after cutscenes. And someone thought it would be a brilliant idea to add a trophy which requires you to play through the whole game without saving. Which means it's basically impossible to do because of broken software.

But this right here is a special case. It's fully game breaking. And makes the game literally unplayable. It doesn't depend on some special situation like the player not picking something up. It's simply fully broken (on some PS2 models).
>>
>>388304596
This guy gets it.
>>
>>388306706
Again, at least 1 PAL reprint with the bug fix exists, so I don't know. It's a fucking mystery by this point.
>>
>muh Jak X save bug
blame Sony for making a broken PS2, not ND for making a game that functions perfectly on PS2s that haven't been gutted to save a few bucks
>>
>>388308340
In Sony's defense, no other game to my knowledge has such a bug that is model-specific.

Still, Sony's hubris will eventually kill the company. And that's a shame, since I like them.

Phat 50001 PS2 owner reporting in.
>>
>>388308453
There are a handful of other PS2 games which have bugs on those Slim models, and a fuckton of PS1 games.

Sony removed the PS1 CPU (which in PS2 games performs some I/O and audio operations) in those PS2 models and replaced it with a cheaper emulator.

which obviously makes MGS Special Missions work. So I guess their PS1 CPU is also buggy.

In any case, it's Naughty Dogs bug (maybe SDK, but then no other game has that issue) and with proper testing it would have been trivial to fix.

PS3s for example have SDK issues as well, because some brilliant Sony moron thought it would be a great idea to switch X and O around for western consoles.

Which resulted in tons of literally broken PS3 games when played on an Asian console.

For example one James Bond game on PS3 is totally broken and can not be beaten on an Asian console despite Sony claiming that PS3s are region free.

And the worst thing is: this shit is a firmware option. With a hacked PS3, you can switch it around, so that those games work. But there is no system setting for it, which means people in that case are fucked.

And it also wasn't just one dev. Even Rockstar released multiple broken games (patched them 6 months or so later). Possibly even used as a region protection, I mean they can't be that dumb to repeat the same mistakes over and over again.
>>
>>388312048

Sadly not. I mean, it's decent, but R&C 2 is much more comfortable to play, you see that this was kinda a new concept for a platformer so the guns wasn't really that powerful and accurate, they did, aside from the chemistry of Ratchet and Clank, everything better in 2.
>>

If you think about it, the only reason why Jak II isn't M rated is because the civilians dies unviolent and disappear right after, but Jak in Jak II is basically a mass murdering maniac since many missions take part in the hub world were either Jak kills dozens of civilians "accidentally" or they get killed by gun towers or guards and it's impossible to avoid it.

It's a tad "sluggish" in the movement department but all the creative ideas, level design and structure of progression make up for it, needed a bit more checkpoints in areas and could have also benefitted from a strafe system but the game wasn't really designed with it in mind so it's not a big deal anyways but yeah solid first entry

>>
>>388328843
Knowing the architecture is certainly a major help, but there's only so much you can do. Similarity between the architectures is major factor too.
PSP could emulate the PS1 extraordinarily well because they both used a MIPS CPU. The PS3 was able to punch above its weight when emulating PS2 games because the SPUs of the Cell were similar to the VUs of the PS2.
The Cell isn't built like any other processor out there. A top of the line x86 CPU struggles to emulate it, so the cheap shitty laptop APU in the PS4 has no chance.
>>
>>388329498
I still wish there was a perfect PS2 emulator built for PS3. Then it would have sold way better in the beginning. And no need to bump up the price to 600; just use software.
>>
>those double jumps

>3D mode shows some her butt cleavage
Bless you Jak 3

Even if they werent they got fucking stuck in that dark eco silo and died a slow and horrific death together. Likely fucked at least once before that though.

ND made fun of cliffhangers. That's all. Why people still look too deep into this is beyond me.

Was Jak Mar or they only share the name?
>>

Originally, yes. Then ND decided that makes little sense and backpedaled. Jak II's ending was rewritten, and the revelation in 3 was changed.

In "canon" way, right now, no, Jak was named after his ancestor like royalty often does to their children.

>boot up ps2 and try to play some jak 3 since it's the one I've played the least, and my favorite incidentally
>"The disc could not be read."
>There is no data.
