>exist outside of normal reality
>their technology is as advanced to the forerunners as forerunner technology (and the forerunners themselves could pretty body the entire 40k universe) is to modern day humanity
>said technology is based on the energy of thoughts and consciousness and could warp reality with it
>they had weapons that were basically solar system sized garrotes that could reconfigure themselves and just cut across interstellar space as giant intstellar swords, whips, and spears

>are basically lovecraftian eldritch abominations in general

I think you should read up on the Karashev scale, because a race of parasites/race capable of dying out to said race of parasites is no where near the match of a scale 2.

A scale 2 is probably the highest a civilization can realistically get in our universe. 3 is just silly (an entire galaxy of hundreds of billions of stars Dysoned up) and 4 would be an entire universe, which is impossible.

Building a Dyson sphere, i.e. a construct measuring a hundred million miles in diameter or so, is something so ridiculously far beyond the ME universe it's not even funny

>>
>>388265526
I dunno, if a race is capable of making a factory that can quickly produce weapons capable of killing all life in a galaxy, I'd say it can match a scale 2.
That said there's not much to go off of on what the Combine's exact reach is. They could potentially have millions of galaxies dysoned up, just the one star, or anywhere in between.

There is a game called Torment Tides of Numenera. It takes place in the Numenera rpg line and is canon with the setting considering it got its own book. In the past of the setting there was a civilization that made a megastructure so vast a Dyson sphere a tiny dot on it and it's capable of self repairing itself. They could do it as they have mastered alternate dimension travel as well. Also regular teleports.

Possibly the cast of Guilty Gear or Blazblue.
More likely Guilty Gear though.
The plot of the GG series mostly revolves around a man named Sol who is hundreds of years old fighting a war against his god powered wife and her army of super powered beings that nearly wiped out all of humanity after humanity started using magic.
Sol himself also has godly power and intelligence being strong enough to easily surpass nuclear weapon levels when he isn't holding back. Some of the other characters in the series have powers such as time control, space control, soul manipulation, absolute immortality and others.
The arch nemesis of Sol is a man who was his best friend hundreds of years ago who directly controls power from the informational source of the entire universe called "The Backyard".

They would take it and look into it's tech, managing to develop a black hole grenade that would allow them to battle the sphere and use the Perpetual testing system to travel to other multiverses and weaken their forces.

Civilisation tiers refers to the amount of energy they harness. Type 1 is a whole planet's worth of energy. Humanity is not even this. Type 2 is a whole star. Dyson sphere territory. It's technically a higher tier than a civilisation that has hundreds of earth like plants under it's control. A tier 2 civilisation has enough power to sterilise every planet in the galaxy by redirecting the power of its star into a laser beam. Tier 3 is a whole galaxy. Every star is dysoned. Tier 4 is the whole universe.

Nothing in 40k surpasses even a tier 2 civilisation. Everyone still lives on planets and they barely use all the energy on those planets, too. The necrons are advanced, and have indeed "finished science", but they aren't tier 2 until they have themselves a dyson sphere.

Marathon's Jjaro should be able to deal with the Combine, a few dozen trih xeem would deal with any Dyson spheres along with their stars. In a worst case scenario where there's W'rkncacnter trapped in one of the stars, they could at least blackmail the Combine with ending the Universe.

When you are talking about possibly massively powerful races with advanced technology you should think about FTL travel, molecular modification devices to effortlessly transmute matter into other useful substances, essentially means to be immortal, weapons that can eradicate life but leave resources untouched such as nanomachine clouds or better etc.

Well, this is speculation, but when IRL scientists (like dr. Michio Kaku) are theorizing about Dyson Spheres, Civilization Scales and all that stuff, they are, for the most part, talking about robots. Let me explain:

>civilization X sends out unmanned vessel into space
>vessel automatically finds and harvests needed sources, such as fuel and metal in celestial bodies
>vessel uses said materials to survive and propagate itself, constantly building machines that will, in their turn, build more machines
>machines harvest the energy of star(s) by building Dyson Spheres and send them back to their planet
>as they reproduce, the machines expand, explore and slowly conquer whole solar systems

Chances are the "Combine" on Earth is nothing more than a VERY smart and VERY advanced piece of self-evolving "race" of machines, send out by an even more advanced race, which probably has no idea these machines are even on Earth. They don't care as long as the machines do their work, no matter how much sentient they get along the way.
That being said, they are still cold, ruthless machines. They care about efficiency, not creative potential. Waiting for humans to perfect a technology is a bit too counter-productive for them. It's high-risk, low-reward, if you will. So they just keep tabs on the humans as they stay in their solar system and planet, harvesting resources, and to make sure the human race won't ever go after them, they seize their means of reproduction so they will simply die off without any effort in a few years. If the natives perfect their teleportation technology while they are here, fine by them, they will take it, but otherwise they are not looking to make friends and whatnot. It's all about being efficient.

Anon, you're not getting the sun in this image is representative, not literal. The Combine symbol is not literally showing the outline of the Dyson Sphere because, as you said, the Dyson Sphere would be completely surrounding the star. Rather, the symbol represents how even the stars themselves are not safe from exploitation by the Combine.

That's the secret, that's the thing. The sun is within a wrench or vise, squeezed for its power and resources just like everything else in the Universe.

>Like why would a civilization THAT advanced give a single fuck about a pissant planet like Earth?

It's 100% because we've got teleportation technology that can be used within a Universe, unlike the tunneling style the Combine have perfected.

It's also significantly miniaturized compared to what the Combine use; they require massive Dark Energy Reactors to power their gateways, while an Aperture Science Portal Gun requires a potato.

The Combine DO have teleportation technology, but it's a one-way lane. They likely have to typically take over a planet and then spend some time establishing a return-teleport back.

It's just that humanity managed to basically discover, with external aid due to the mysterious benefactors around G-Man and the sheer insanity of Cave Johnson, a super-efficient method of teleportation that basically renders what the Combine's teleports can do as moot in comparison.

If Laidlaw's breengrub tweets are anything to go by, the larvae-like Advisors weren't a Combine race originally. They were reality-warpers, small grubs and larvae that could shift the world around them, but they usually dreamed. A parasite spread around that prevented the species from propagating, but they managed to suppress it - until the Combine came, found out how damn powerful they really wore, and utilized the parasite to control the Advisors and use them as superpsychic death machines for commanding positions in their armies.

Possibly, but it's important to mention the Combine were deeply interested in Earth specifically because we developed portal technology that operates within a universe at a minuscule fraction of the energy. In contrast, Combine portal technology is a one-way connection; once they get through, they're bound by that Universe and their laws of physics and travel.

The Combine are impossible to defeat because they've simply grown so large and efficient that even the most ravenous assault on their "hierarchy" would just be cauterized and subsumed.

Ever wonder why The Combine always refers to itself in anatomical terms? Medical terms? Physiological? Ever wonder why their more "natural" soldiers are straight-up techno-organic machine-beasts?

The Combine is not a government. The Combine is a living thing. A living state. Breathing bureaucracy.

The two factions (Basically humans who transferred their consciousness to machines and replicated against vast armies of genetically optimized human clones designed to fight against them) in it had been going at it for a couple thousand years.

Eventually one of them literally constructs a device that will cause the galaxy to implode, vaporizing both civilizations and leaving one constructor unit inside the device to rebuild everything from the beginning.

>>
>>388274937
It works. The problem is that it would collapse into a black hole, or like a ring of black holes. All the mass for like 100 light years would have to concentrated into the disk minus the star in the center. Also the star would have to be stabilized using lasers to stimulate sunspots else it might collide with the ring.

Fun little fact, both side of the disk would be livable and oceans could go straight through the disk such that a very strong submersible could travel between sides of the disk.
