Everything was established more than enough beforehand, from Gerald (mentioned by Eggman in the first Dark Story cutscene, Sonic was locked in his cell and attention is drawn to the scribbles everywhere) to Maria (we never see the full flashback scene, only pieces that Shadow tries to put together), to the Eclipse Cannon, to even the Biolizard (on the top secret report Rouge confronts Shadow with). The only thing that comes out of nowhere is the replica of the Master Emerald shrine, which is a red herring anyway since the Biolizard then drags the colony towards Earth himself. And Eggman just decides a truce is in order after the whole ordeal, he never states he'll stop trying to conquer the world.

The problem is that the quality is really uneven. Team Sonic is great, Team Shadow is ok, Team Amy is literally just the Sonic stages with less content, and Team Chaotix is just strange.

Though on a technical game iirc it's actually the most polished game, the game has relatively few if any bugs and it controls really well.

This game is so interesting to me. Almost everything about it is so terrible, but it's still one of my all time favorite games.

I think it's a good game but as the others pointed out it gets brought down by the fact that you have to play it 4 times to actually finish it

But then again Shadow is even worse in that regard, it has like, what, 20-something stages? And (almost) all of them have 3 different winning conditions (a good, a neutral and an evil one) to clear if you want to get to the real ending, and the game doesn't let you select stages whenever you want, you have to create your own routes to get to a certain level to win it a certain way

I gladly completed both of them as a kid

So ARK is still just floating up there in orbit, right? I know it's revisited in Shadow the Hesgehog but is it pretty much abandoned after that?

What about the moon? In Sonic Unleashed the moon has been repaired with no explanation as to how offered.

Adventure 1-Shadow follow some sort of canon. 06 wanted to reboot the series but at the last minute they changed the script so that 06s events never happened or only happened in its own universe. Starting with Unleashed, the games are no longer connected. Each story is a one off with some references to previous games now and then (like Eggman contemplating he made Time Eater in Generations after floating around in space after Colors). I wish more things were followed on, like what Sonic did with Chip's bracelet or how the world recovered after Dark Gaia.

I'm the same way but a lot of those reasons are why I even like it in the first place. I actually really like the voice actors themselves, but the fucking retarded audio mixing, overlapping VO, and random untranslated Japanese words make it so memorable in the first place.

And the story too. I love it because it's so absolutely ridiculous yet takes itself completely seriously. The only thing that really detracts from my enjoyment of the game is how fucking stupid and glitchy it can be which severely impedes platforming.
