True enough, MM&B is ball-breakingly hard (That particular boss wrecked my shit more times than I'd care to admit) but I can't help but love it- It was the first Mega Man game I played and cleared. Its a feeling of genuinly conquering an insurmountable challenge - You really can't "luck" your way through it - You need to fucking get good because it really won't allow you to progress otherwise.

But if you're asking me, probably nothing good. In my wilder fantasies, I think that the universe is this place full of boundless potential, and what we need in order to get past this "hurdle" is to fully embrace transhumanism. But, if we can't even manage our lives, primitive as they are, now, just think how balls-to-the-wall insane things could get if we really embraced that. Furthermore, more recently I've come to the thought that maybe the universe ISN'T so boundless, and maybe unchecked creative potential is just as much of a prison as anything else.

More realistically, what I see is us coming to some kind of crisis and either voluntarily or involuntarily(i.e. through some kind of "apocalyptic" scenario) reverting back to a simpler existence, where we'd likely plateau and stay in for a while. I actually think the "violent apocalypse" is relatively unlikely, and what's more likely to happen is that we reach a point where resources are enough to keep everyone placated, if not necessarily happy/fulfilled, so 99.99% of people never manage to get it up enough to do anything anymore. The rest would be relatively easy to quarantine. I'll leave it up to your imagination what constitutes "quarantine," but don't automatically go to killing/brainwashing/whatever. Imagine more of a "Brave New World" type scenario.

At this point the correlation is so strong that people have begun to treat it as a foregone conclusion, i.e. it's "impossible" to write a good ethnic character. That's why it's become so controversial.

As for Mary Sues themselves, they do not embody the characteristics of strength, capability, or even (arguably) attractiveness. The thing about stories is that they are symbolic in nature, it doesn't matter how much "raw" power someone has, it matters how they fit into the world they reside in, how they interact with other characters. You can't just make someone powerful enough to defeat all the bad guys in the universe with a single thought and call that a symbolic representation of strength. Mary Sues are exactly that -- they have all the superficial characteristics without any of the actual symbolic meaning and nuance those characteristics are supposed to carry.

Have you noticed that despite how nearly every form of media has introduced sci-fi/fantasy elements, gratuitous CGI and ever-more ridiculous plotlines, they all feel hollow and without consequence? Each new superhero movie is about how the world is in danger, the galaxy is in danger, the UNIVERSE is in danger, but they all boil down to the same boring cliches, the same tired one liners. In fact, it's WORSE than it was before; everything is becoming more superficially different but more fundamentally similar. In vidya terms it's basically the openworld JUST ONE CRATER FITS THE ENTIRETY OF SKYRIM meme.

That's the whole point of the monoculture: it gives you the illusion of choice, the illusion of diversity, while never allowing you to stray far enough to ACTUALLY be different.
