Machineguns aren't really good not even for base defense

they are just too bulky, rookies cant use them and there is better thing to put in your more experienced soldires, in the end anything that a machinegun can do explosives can do better

It's not that they are horrible or anything, its just that they don't fit any role

You don't want them on scouts obviously

You can't really use them in mid range troops since they are too bulky and the time spent shooting those could be better used for grenades or just shooting a rifle and still have tu's left to do something else.

The only place they can be used is long range troops that don't move much, but if you want to kill things snipers are better and if you want AoE explosives are better

they just don't shine at anything to be worth using (you can still use them, there is just better options)
