Killzone 2 and Killzone Shadowfall.
>game has a bizarre difficulty spike for one single encounter midway through
>end up lowering the difficulty for it, change it back afterwards but sours the rest of the experience
>>388239214
>game is hard as fuck at first
>by midpoint you're so decked out with upgraded weapons and bonuses you steamroll everything with no effort
>game increases difficulty in real-time depending on how well you are playing

Persona 3 and 4
>>388239779
>it never scales down if you preform under what you did last time
Oooh baby that sounds fun
>normal mode is easy as shit
>hard mode isn't fun and completely guts the gameplay in an attempt to make it hard
>>388240398
Diablo 3
If they just fixed the loot system it wouldn't be so bad, and to be fair you can increase it to a certain point where it's actually very entertaining, but after a certain point increasing the difficulty is just ridiculous.
>>388239214
>game lets you put points into combat and non-combat skills
>early part of the game lets you talk/sneak past almost everything
>later part of the game forces you into direct combat in tough encounters
>all your points are in scholarship and finance

First stalker and its whole powerplant section.

>Game is impossible to start on hard mode
>steamroll everything if you dont switch to hard after a couple hours

needing to use any of them at all

>have only one left on the final boss

DESAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAN!
>>388239605
what are some games that actually stay hard throughout? a lot of times with shit like this it's because you haven't gotten past the learning curve yet, and as soon as you do it becomes easy, usually well before the end of the game.
>>388243626
Most shmups stay pretty difficult.
Revolver360 is good.
>postgame is just going to three different locations and grinding battles for better robot parts
>midway through the postgame (to the point where it's already become very repetitive) it becomes impossibly, unbearably difficult.
>meanwhile through all this, the colors and ablities of the parts are mostly determined by RNG, so by that point you'll only be lucky enough to have 3 or 4 decent robots to choose from
I just gave up, wasn't fucking worth bothering anymore.

Well, the sort of thing happened to me but you should learn your lesson way before the sewers. Act one already has the Painting Demon and the 4 thugs in the diner. It was obvious that you have to put points into some form of combat abilities by then, since you get to witness how little damage you do against relatively easy enemies.

Yeah that was my >>388246090 point
Shame LP2 was ass.

Jeanne D'arc
That final boss was mountains more difficult than anything else in the game.

At least the music is real nice. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ym2uK-nm7k
But my favourite track is chapter 3, followed by The Stone-Like.

>Game starts out moderately difficult
>Becomes piss easy as you stockpile tons of ammo and healing
>"difficulty" is in getting autistic ratings through item, save and speed restrictions
>All of it in a genre where resource scarcity is meant to be a thing

The soundtrack is phenomenal, Epic and intense. Pure HBPM raising bliss. I think Reality - chap 4 is my fave track too. But Stone-like, man the first time I heard that it gave me goosebumps.

>>388248401
WRONG
SMT1 is easy from start to finish.

Just beat Castlevania: SOTN for the first time and it was like that
Would Ritcher mode be different from that at all?
>>388248810
oh yes
The Whole game is easy with Richter
>>388248218
Yup. I'm binging through it, and RE2, RE3 and RE:CV are all disappointing in this regard.
>>388239214
>skipping optionaly grindy sidequests but still blazing through the game easily
>suddenly a self-healing boss that is impossible to beat without high raw damage output
>>388248401
SMT isn't hard or easy, it's just that you sometimes get caught offguard by RNG or shit you couldn't have possibly known about.
