>>388236016
really makes you think. still one of my favorite online racers to play though.

>>388236561
they should have just built on build #6. it was so much damn fun. the game is still pretty great imo, but for a while there I had lost faith.

I do miss how crazy build 6 was though. it looked great and played great but it wasn't enough for the devs apparently.
>>
>>388236561
>>388235708
What happened with it? I bought it ages ago and forgot about it. Is it fun now? Is it comparable to FlatOut? Is there a singleplayer mode with a campaign or something like it?
>>
>>388237124
>What happened with it?

Small team doing a lot, they re-wrote the engine physics and did a lot of tweaks to the physics in general.

> I bought it ages ago and forgot about it. Is it fun now?

Yeah but it needs more, so far the game's only hook is really good destruction physics.

>Is it comparable to FlatOut?
Nope.

>Is there a singleplayer mode with a campaign or something like it?
It's being worked on now that they have investors and publisher to help them finish the game.
>>
>>388236743
i'm in the video-games section of an american website.

why?
>>
>>388237124
It's still being developed and updated. They did a pretty large overhaul of the game a while back, so development has been pretty slow. No single player yet, but the car and track list has been slowly. they've remade quite a few tracks as well.

it's always been fun, imo, but I just play online. I think some of the older more arcadey builds were a bit more enjoyable but I still really like the game. the devs are trying to make it a bit more realistic, so I'm not sure the comparison to flatout is appropriate since those games are pretty crazy and arcadey, no?

I see racing game threads from time to time. But the reason why the sim/racing car general is on /o/ is because good racing games have a steep learning curve and you kind of have to be on the spectrum to enjoy a timer turnung green or red.

The first one was also ruined by the incredibly terrible storyline, physics weirdness (if you own a racing wheel, let go of it as you're going top whack and see what happens) and amazingly fucky netcode completely ruining the "crew" part of the title. Not to mention that you can't actually race different specs against each other, you're railroaded into doing things the way the game wants you to.

That said, I did absolutely fucking love the cruising and customization (not the stupid tuning part grinding) parts of it and I'm kinda looking forward to TC2, hopefully it won't suck ass so I can get that open world racan itch scratched. The utter lack of storyline in the parts they've shown is an immediately positive sign.

He said racing games. He didn't differentiate between gameplay styles (arcade/simulation)

Which also includes games like Mario Kart which sells even more copies (in plus 30 million area)

Also, as a former semi-serious hobby racer (on two wheels though) let me tell you that there isn't such a thing as full on simulation. It's simply not possible to realise. The physical forces are such a huge part of it that without it, it is somewhat meaningless. You feel a car/bike before it loses traction with your body/butt, then in the steering. If you react with your eyes it's often too late.

Another thing is racing machines are ultra sensitive to super minor changes. Even if the asphalt temperature drops by 1 degree it can feel totally different. It really never feels the same.
Racing machines are also completely handbuilt which can make two of exact same model feel completely different.

I love racing games. In fact I just come out of a session of Gran Turismo 3. The game is kinda draining for now though because FUCK getting gold in Licences. I wonder if I should keep sinking time in it given that I already beat GT4 and it seems to be the same game with less content.
Talking about GT, I'm really surprised by the sales figures of the mainline entries. GT isn't the apex of simulation but it's a lot more in-depth than what you'd expect from a mainstream game.

Also, anyone here plays Trackmania? Apparently there's supposed to be 9 environments in total but given the release schedules Trackmania 2 won't be complete until 2030. Damn shame.

It's amazing in dirt rally once you get used to flicking the handbreak instead of relying on it hardcore like in the mini cooper. RWD for life.

Does Driver: San Francisco count? I was always more of an arcade driving guy and this game has what is probably the best "fun" driving model I've ever seen. It has a fun story, plus I love the car movie feel to it. Despite being a Ubisoft game, it somehow feels like it was made by people with a passion.

Great OST too.

It all feels the same, the only major difference is speed. You can't even properly drift with out mods. Burnout was much more fun sliding around at high speed

A quick counter steer and a maybe a down shift is all you need in RWD. They're squirrely enough.

I love racing games. Dirt 2 was great, Dirt 3 was pretty okay, Forza Horizon 3 has a lot going on, I just wish drifitng was more consistent, as it makes those zones a bitch without very specific car setups. Midnight Club LA is unironically one of my favorite games of all time, along with MC3 Dub Edition. People talk up the car customization in FH3, but Midnight Club went hard with that shit. Need for Speed 2015 was fun for drifting, but actual racing kind of sucked, and the real-life actors are still just as jarring as they were back when I played Carbon. The livery system was pretty alright though, and that Foxbody Mustang was a hoot to drive. Crash Team Racing is unironically better than N64's Mario Kart, but has since been eclipsed by both advances in that series as well as the impressive Sonic ASR Transformed. I have never been able to get into Gran Turismo, but I respect what it does. Oh, and Freekstyle was the most fun I've ever had with a two-wheeled vehicle in any game ever.

I honestly kind of forgot about it after Takedown. I played Paradise, but it never really clicked for me.

Agreed. The simple gameplay loop of win events, get money, buy cars/parts to win tougher events works well, and tethering their potential vehicle power to a frustrating challenge system never did a thing for me. Plus grinding cash takes way, way too damn long.

The Crew. It's not great. Got it during the freebie month and was very disappointed in it.

Rubber banding is the worst part of racing games, I don't know why it's so popular with devs. Just have difficulty levels like every other kind of game.

I really like dirt 4 and dirt rally.
I like that they are hard and kinda realistic. Is there anything like this but without rally cars preferable in the streets with cool view and atmosphere not on some closed track?
I find most nfs games to be waaay too arcadey and after playing dirt theyre unplayable to me now.

that's actually a real picture it seems. Pikes Peak is the location though, which you can find throughout racing games. DiRT Rally has some good Pikes Peak action.
