I was excited when I first heard about it, but after seeing the trailer I'm just disappointed. They turned one of the most beautiful sprite games of the SNES era into a generic looking chibi game with PS2-level graphics.

I don't want the budget and graphics of a AAA game. But they clearly could have put more heart into this project.

It's one of the best Mana games, if not THE best. Best atmosphere and music by far, and the individual stories of the 3 main quests are all more unique and interesting than anything in SoM or SD3. Combat is pretty wonky and very easy, but it's never been a hard series in the first place.

I'm not talking the same map, but the same screen dimensions. The 3D remakes are always underwhelming. They take a beautiful classic 2D game and turn it into a low class polygon nightmare.

The game doesn't take any time to explain the more obtuse gameplay mechanics at all, or how to pursue storylines you're interested in, or how the map even functions.

It's typical Squeenix bullshit, they pulled the same crap with TWEWY expecting you to somehow divine the perfect way to play it or otherwise look up a guide to get the best experience out of it. It didn't have battle screens though, the combat was action (though admittedly slow due to the stamina feature) and everything was just out in the field, rather than Phantasia's battle screen type combat which felt inbetween SoM and older style RPGs.

Also Secret of Mana was still very well known in it's day (though I don't agree with others saying it was the biggest), shame the series petered off after the Legend of Mana game on PS1. Also sounds like the remake is going to adjust the gameplay to make it more modern, most likely fixing the annoying stamina shit.

I hope this leads into a remake of SD3 and Legend of Mana, but honestly LoM wouldn't work as a 3d remake due to its more "storybook" feel. Maybe give it to Vanillaware and see what they do with it.
