Recently got an email from my ISP stating I violated copyright laws by downloading BOTW. The thing is, the warning didn't come from Nintendo, but from Adrian Leatherland, stating it was just content own by Nintendo. I doubt Nintendo gives a shit, but should I be worried as this was just my first warning?
>>
Ignore the e-mail and move on.

I constantly pirate shit and have for about 8 years at this point. I have never gotten anything like that.
>>
>>388218886

Do not reply to any emails, until the ISP contact you by phone they have been contacted by a lawyer from Nintendo.

It's all bullshit.
>>
>>388219596
Same. But I'm wary of torrenting American games and tv shows. Most of my pirated stuff is anime and jap games which they don't give a shit about
>>
>>388219402
shit like that only exists in first world countries though
>>

>>
If you are going to torrent movies, musics and tv shows use a VPN, if you are capturing streams it doesn't matter they can't find your IP unless the filehost gives them your IP under court order but most the filehosting sites are some random countries and can switch on the fly.
>>
>>388218886
They have to identify themselves as agents of Nintendo.
If they don't, you're entitled to not believing they are acting on Nintendo's behalf.

After all any idiot can just tell you "I work for Blizzard, we demand you stop drawing Mercy porn" or something.

Nintendo is the sole proprietary of their IPs, of course.
But they surely can pay a different entity to take care of their copyright stuff, so "Adrian Leatherland" might, in fact, be legally authorised to act on Nintendo's behalf.

It is within your rights to, at least, ask them to prove it in some way.
If you maliciously ignore a proof they have in fact GIVEN to you (maybe a logo in an Email? I don't know) you'll be in bigger trouble.

I would obey the warning if it turns out to be someone who works with Nintendo.
After all they could've asked for money already and they didn't.

If they DO have a business entirely (or partially) based around "helping companies protect their intellectual property" and essentially threatening and bullying the average torrenting NEET, I'd wager they've spent millions of dollars simply to refine their technique in dealing with Joe Schmoe and his cpyright infringing ways. I wouldn't go against them.

If you have a good lawyer and money to spare ask him.
You could also contact a "consumer rights association" or some such to maybe get legal assistence for free, if you want to start a battle.

If you're a 17yo neet who just "don't want no trouble", obey, be thankful it's free, and try to be more discrete when violating their copyright in the future (use safer, less visible means).

>>388219774
Pretty much this. First time I torrented a game in a very long time just to see if my gpu could actually run it. I already own the game on the switch, but I was just curious to see it running consistently. Feels like I got hard played.

>>388220116
Did some research on the guy and his company. It's entirely a phishing scam, as nothing comes from it. I don't generally torrent games or movies, mostly anime and shit, so I doubt anyone cares about that stuff.
>>
>>388220116
Lmao if you believe that the legal departments for any large video game publisher or developer actually gives a shit about the small fry who's torrenting a few of their games.

They only care about the distributors of the torrents and the big fish. They might make an example of one small fry downloader every few years, and you have more chance of winning the lottery than actually getting arrested for downloading copyrighted content.

tl;dr stop giving a shit about fake ass threats, or move to a country where it doesn't happen if you're too pussy to deal with companies trying to scare you into not pirating.
>>
>americucks watched by their shit ass IPS which providing them shitty ass speeds.

lmao is this real? do they literally control your downloads
>>
>>388220859
Yes, when your government actively encourages lobbying you tend to get monopolies everywhere, and ISP's are no different. They get to do whatever they fuck they want, which includes providing a shitty service to customers.
>>

>>
>>388220116
Are there any legit sources of people being taken to the courts for downloading one file?
I doubt Nintendo or anyone would ever spend money to hire a company to go after random people. There's nothing to be gained there. The only time people get fined is when they are sharing the files they download.

ATT in GA. Been torrenting movies for years without a VPN, so this kinda came as a big surprise. Haven't torrented a game in a while, but I didn't think they gave to much of a shit about this.
>>
>>388221476

If an ISP fucked you over, you switch its that simple.

They sold you out.
>>
>>388221335
Same here with the UK.

We have so much competition with broadband providers that none of them would dare put into place any sort of copyright strike system. There have been a few attempts by copyright activist groups to try and get all of the providers to opt in to such a system, and every single time at least a few different providers say no and kill the whole thing.
>>
>>388220214
No one gives a shit about what people do in eastern europe, they're all just shitholes with people trying their hardest not to starve. It's only places like the US where the government have nothing better to do than spying on it's own people.

Same in Sweden. Well sans child porn. Though the guberment is on the warpath against piracy and straight up forcing ISP's to spy on people(even going so far to just say fuck you to the EU Supreme Court) so who knows how long that will last.
>>
>>388222116
If you're replying to
>>388221794

Name one UK provider which has a copyright strike system. I live there and research different ISP's every time I move, and I've never heard of read about any sort of system such as that.

Yeah, some providers still throttle download and upload speeds for P2P, but that's changing over time due to the competition from providers who don't.

>>
>>388221158
Let me tell you a story I was taught in Civil Law class.
A lawyer once found out that all workers in a huge factory were being incorrectly paid. A few cents per month each.
So he got around the factory getting from as many workers as he could the right to represent them in court against the factory owner, to get those few cents back (the total sum amounted to 50$ per worker, not more).
He offered to work FOR FREE.

So he started this immense case with the factory owner on one side, and a thousand people on the other, defended by him.
After 10 years or so and a long trial, he won.

Now the legal fees are always paid by the losing side, so the factory owner had to pay 50$ to every employee... and tens of thousands to the lawyer.

If a legal team smells they can WIN a lawsuit, they can squeeze money out of it, even with a client that won't pay. It's a big business.

What they do in practice is not taking you to court, but threaten you and ask for money as settlement to AVOID going to court. Only stubborn idiots would ever end up in court, most pay the sum right away and avoid going through the trouble.
...and maybe even they are bluffing, because it's less expensive to just start threatening someone else rather than insisting on the stubborn guy.
>>
Use a VPN

>>388222561

Not him but does VPN's affect your speed any?

I've never used one since i'm a poorfag, but do you just run one daily for everything you do with no real issues? Or is it like with ordinary proxy's, a fat mess that makes it impossible to use the internet?
>>
>>388225136
You already pay monthly for your internet connection, what's adding a tiny bit more to that for VPN access?
>>
>>388225395
Typically a good vpn won't affect your internet speed at all. You enable it by running a program, like OpenVPN client, which will route all your traffic through the vpn. Then you can use your computer like you normally would, don't have to change any settings since all the programs will connect through that connection automatically

I only use it when I'm torrenting something

>>
>>388225810
No reason to?
For starters, VPNs are usually banned on 4chan. So you can't post here if you're connected to the VPN
You're also adding latency to your connection. So while download speeds aren't affected, you wouldn't want to play games through a VPN
>>
what? you can play this game on pc??
>>
>>388218886
>should I be worried as this was just my first warning?
>downloading files not using VPN
Welcome to 1984
>>388225395
>Not him but does VPN's affect your speed any?
Yes. Privacy over speed is a better deal.
Torrentfreeak has a guide on VPNs but beware they receive payments from most famous VPNs so just use common sense and VPNs not hosted in United States, Germany, UK, etc.
Also: uninstall windows 10 and go back to 8 or 7 and disable telemetry
>>388226091
Another reason to stop using 4chan is because FBI has your real IP address.
>>
>>388226338
>Another reason to stop using 4chan is because FBI has your real IP address.
I'm talking about pirating movies and games, not downloading CP. If you're a pedo, even a vpn won't save you
>>
>>388226695
Still not sure why so many people got triggered by this.
>>
>>388226576
still is a good idea not use your IP address here because 4chan has a lot of pedos, CIA and marketeres here that love to know and track your ip address.

>>
>>388227163
And if they are gonna do that by starting a movement trying to get rid of news which has no facts to back them up I don't see why I would care. News with no credible source or facts is no news at all.
>>
>>388226338
what vpn should I use then?
>>
>>388227879
>News with no credible source or facts is no news at all.
The mozilla blog post literally says Le Monde and Wall Street Journal are credible news source that everybody should follow. Wall Street Journal is written by you know who.
Mozilla will use a fact-check engine to determine if the news is backed up by big media like Wall Street Journal, CNN, Fox News, DW or Le Monde and if it doesn't it will be labeled as fake news.
This is really worse than the ''glory'' days of Pravda. I'd rather stick with the old soviet censor than this

The emulator itself needs some improvements, wait until version 1.9.1 and you will be a bit under constant 30FPS

Guys I have a FX6350 & a old ass HD7870 from ASUS

>>
>>388218886
I wouldn't respond to any of email like this, but If you own a copy of the original (preferably with recipient) emulation is legal in the United States. Just in case you get brought to court, though it is rare and as it counts as a "civil" trial you have to prove yourself innocent rather than be proven guilty. Great system we Americans have, right?
>>
>>388242537
Emulation is never illegal but pirating stuff always is, regardless of whether or not you own a copy already.
>>
>>388218886

Its a scam, they send it to everyone hoping someone will answer,
Even nintendo wouldn't send you such mail because they don't give a shit about some random guy downloading a game off the internet. They are too big of a company for that and hunting one guy down over it is not worth it.

It reached that a couple of months ago if your PC is god enough. Not like a jelly switchild can know that. I'll give you another piece of news.

> I bought an awesome system with awesome on-the-go games,
Yeah, waiting two months for its only good game really killed me. Look, I get that you need to try to justify your purchase, but you will only embarrass yourself and nothing more. Hell, you are so desperate that you called this game "scrap" in your first post, and now you are talking about "an awesome system with awesome on-the-go games". But it's ok, I'm enjoying every single tear of regret and autistic whining you are spamming, especially the stupidest ones.

>..yeah, he's retarded.

Again, having a multi-thousand dollar computer to play switch games. Nice one, bruh.
>Hell, you are so desperate that you called this game "scrap" in your first post
No,I said you're eating Nintendo's scraps. Which you are. We all played it months ago, and now you're spending THOUSANDS just to eat the leftovers.

You still haven't quoted this post.
>Again, having a multi-thousand dollar computer to play switch games. Nice one, bruh.
Yeah, using what I already have to play Switch's only good game with 0 extra cost is really nice, your jelly butt is the icing on the cake.
>No,I said you're eating Nintendo's scraps.
I ate botw and so you said that botw is scraps.
Your desperation is delicious.
> just to eat
Yes, yes, switchild, keep repeating this magic meme spell over, and over, and over again, it will magically become true, and at that point you will be finally able to stop crying, you won't be jelly anymore, and you won't stalk those threads only to try to justify your terrible purchase. Spoiler: sadly, my young friend, mememagic doesn't exist, no matter how many time you spam and try to force your meme, the truth will always be that I played it with 0 extra cost, your tears will keep flowing, your butt will keep hurting. Delicious.
>the leftovers.
You are calling this " awesome game" a leftover only because I played it after a couple of months. So who bought a switch later, and played it after me, played a shitty leftover. Makes sense, It's better if you point out that the game's expiration in the nintendo threads as well for the new players' sake.

Got an old ass i7 2600K, running at stock clocks. I get drops to 20fps in villages and 30fps most of the time outside. It's not perfect but it's bearable - I played it on WiiU and the performance was pretty much the same (except 1080p and other graphics enhancements).
Running a bit better on switch in docked mode but it won't be long till Cemu is up to speed. Every Cemu update in the last couple months squeezed a couple more FPS out of the game. Just don't forget to use cemuhook.

>>
>>388242468
Xeno X is a total mess right now. You're gonna have to wait a bit longer. Luckily most of the stuff they do also improves games other than BOTW, in case you're thinking they're just focused on that - which they are. The difference is, they're not just writing hacks to make the game work like the PCSX2 devs do, they constantly improve the emulation so that other games profit from it as well in the long run.
>>
how well can Xenoblade Chronicles X be emulated fellas, on a shitty AMD system

I used Karikaro village as the example there, yeah. Might as well not sugarcoat it. I wanna say it's full on 30fps outside towns, but whenever there's a stable nearby it's gonna drop off a bit. And the framepacing is atrocious making the 30fps feel very jittery on my machine. I got a 970 too, no OC.
