I enjoy both for different reasons.
I really liked how VD allowed for multiple transformations instead of just one.

It had the potential to be but there was way too much dialogue and no outfits. I did like the gameplay and premise but they shipped it blatantly unfinished expecting to move DLC later.

The gameplay is slightly better than Senran Kagura, I just hate how you'd just locked into a long animation sometimes, because you can't dodge cancel out of it. Also it was dumb how late game the girl you're fighting would enter sync mode or whatever it was called and become invincible, forcing you to just run around for a bit.
If they refined the gameplay a bit it could become pretty good.
The girls are better than SK, Manpukumaru is a fucking treasure, and Mana did everything wrong.

How's the carpet munching in the game? As lewd as in the anime?

Not surprising when SK already has a solid public, and they announced a lot of games so the anime will only enhance the publicity.
In contrast, VD pretty much failed to rise as a franchise, so it's hard to expect it to become anything other than a stand alone title, both game and anime.

Takaki said during E3 that he would continue with both SK and VD. Hell, a recent event of NW was a collaboration with Bhikkhuni

I enjoyed it more and felt that the characters were more fleshed out than the first Senran Kagura.
The gameplay is better than current Senrans too.

However, I probably won't buy any sequels unless they're on the Vita like the first one was.

I would take Takaki's word with a grain of salt. I remember someone once asked him if there was a posiblity of a Senran and Queen's Blade crossover, and he said he would prioritize VD over anything else, yet after Ikkitousen, DOA and even Super Sonico, you would think a couple VD characters would be logical to have in EV or PBS, but it never happened, even the NewWave event is just limited to only the swimsuits.

Character development needs to make the characters interesting or likable. VD's did neither. As such, it failed. All it did was result in an unlikable retard driving a stupid story forward.

You can't really pull anything like that on the Versus games.

Rinka took the backseat of the story for the most part, Ranka and Momo are the ones that actually drive the plot forward and thus, they are the ones with the bulk of the character development.

The story really only moves at three points: Rinka getting injured, Rinka discovering the truth behind the island, and Rinka deciding that she's going to be a fucking idiot and destroy the island despite knowing that it's a stupid thing to do. Other characters have their thoughts, but they're not Rinka, so they don't get to decide the direction of the plot.

You're supposed to be cheering for her, so that makes it bad writing. Again, it fails at its purpose.

Don't act like the others are super unique, either. Their characterization is a carbon copy of shit that's been done a billion times before, and the drama is exactly the kinds of bad cliches that put people off of uninspired cute girl series.

At least walking punchlines don't piss you off.
